From dvdtimes.co.uk:

Jet Li’s Fearless (R1) in December

Universal Studios Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Jet Li’s Fearless for 19th December 2006 priced at $29.98 SRP. Looking forward to this one. Thanks for posting the info, dx23.

I'm glad to see that they are releasing this movie rather quickly in R1 however, that cover art is awful.

I also know that they cut a lot of this movie especially all of the scenes with Michelle Yeoh so hopefully we get that through the deleted scenes.

GIjon213 10-28-06 06:33 AM

I am looking forward to this, and yes, that cover needs to change.

Yep,

The deleted scenes will be on the release, perhaps with a choice of branching.

The "unrated" version does not have any additional scenes at all, just snippets of additional violence. And no Michelle Yeoh. The real uncut version is about twenty minutes longer, but the one coming out on this disc is less than one minute longer than the US theatrical cut.

I think Linn1 was referring to the deleted scenes that are announced to be this DVD, although at the moment it's not known what deleted scenes will be included.

Might it be that Thai boxer scene that's on the Thai DVD? Just guessing, I haven't see the theatrical release yet.

The longer director's cut, 2hr 20min has been said to be coming out in January.

MrChaos 10-28-06 07:58 PM

I'll be grabbing the HD-DVD/DVD Combo. Always a fan of Jet Li's work.

Sadly, the cover art:

Fok 10-30-06 11:23 PM

didn't see it on the big screen but will pick it up. Why is this his last kung fu movie?

Linn1 10-30-06 11:23 PM

Exactly...

and the first release supposedly will not have all the deleted scenes from the "director's cut."

That's a specific historical hairstyle called the queue hairstyle. It was originally imposed on the Chinese by the Manchus, but later became a respected tradition. Jet Li's worn the hairstyle previously in other films where he plays historical figures from the past, like the Once Upon a Time in China film trilogy.

It's not. It's billed as his "final martial arts epic," and some clarify that statement even further by saying it's his last martial arts epic about a real-life historical figure. Jet Li's already signed on to do a film with Jackie Chan, based loosely on the story "Journey to the West," about The Monkey King.

how big of a part did Michelle Yeoh have? How many minutes were cut? does it take away from the film? should i pursue this film in other regions then?

About 40 minutes were cut from the film, most of it related to Yeoh's character, although there's also a part where Jet Li fights a Thai boxer.

does it take away from the film?
It hasn't been shown widely, but according to early advance screenings, the pacing of the original film was too slow, and the sub-plot with Yeoh's character too irrelevant.

No other regions have the fully uncut version available at this time. The Thai DVD contains the fight with a Thai boxer, but is dubbed in Thai without the original language or English subtitles.

I really enjoyed Hero, how does this compare to that?

Deadpool 10-31-06 02:22 PM

I really liked this at the movies but...I'll wait for the rumored better version.

I thought it compared very favorably. The story's more straightforward, and the action is less lyrical but plentiful. I enjoyed it more than House of Flying Daggers.

are you referring to a 2 disc version or a better transfer, etc.?

thank you...thank you

LorenzoL 12-23-06 03:18 AM

I bought this DVD this week and watched it. I'm fairly impressed with the movie and the presentation of the disc.

Anyone know if they are going to be releasing the director's cut with the missing footage anytime soon?

Edit - I believe that the deleted scene in the R1 DVD is the fight between the Thai boxer and Jet Li.

Cameron 12-23-06 03:53 AM

this seems to be a good example of more footage may not equal a better movie...i'd rather have all the scenes as deleted scenes instead of running the movie up another 40 mionutes
