Question about old tv one shot specials
I know this is a dumb question but does anyone think we will ever see some of the old specials featuring a star make it to dvd? I can remember a lot of these 1 shot type specials from when I was a kid. In particular I remember a Nancy Sinatra one and a Richard Pryor one and a Ann Margaret one. That Ann Margaret is the one that most sticks with me. I remember seeing this Ann Margaret one that had a lot of dancing and singing in it when I was a kid, so it must have been sometime in the 70's. I would kill for that one to ever show up on dvd! for some reason that show has been popping up in my head lately and I really want to see it again!

"Moving With Nancy" is available on DVD and is quite good on many levels. It captures the 60's (especially with the wonderlfully dated RC Cola ads!) with the hokey dancers, cameos by Frank Sr. and Jr., Deano and her awesome duet work with Lee Hazlewood. Many of the clips are actually music videos that do justice to the songs. Some Velvet Morning is particurlarly a standout. Check it out!

Raquel! is another one that's available.
I'd like to see the "Burlington Presents Bardot" special from '68 (I think). In the past few months one of the local PBS stations in Atlanta has shown a Nat King Cole special (taped in England) and one from Doris Day. A great one from Bobby Darin has been shown in the past. Great to see these time capsules again. |

I rented "Moving" from Netflix thinking I'd watch a Boots video and be done w/the hokey action contained therein. Well first of all, Boots is not on it! Nancy says in the commentary she kinda wishes it was now. But I found so many cool songs, ads, etc. and LOVED it. Starting w/the old NBC peacock it just got better and better. I watched it six times before returning it and then bought it. It was out of print but it may be back in now-can't remember. That darn DVD started a Lee Hazlewood (and Nancy Sinatra) obsession the likes of which I've never seen before. Well maybe with a few others musical artists. |
