Sweet Lord. I never thought a product like this would exist and I'm a little embarrased to admit it, but... I'm totally buying this.

calhoun07 10-12-06 11:42 PM

Match Game is easilly one of the best game shows of all time! I am looking forward to this!

What details? Is it just me or has amazon.com become increasingly lazy about posting true details on their DVD releases? I recall when they wrote synopsis and reviews for the DVDs. There is NOTHING there aside from disc count and other information that doesn't matter.

In my experience, most of their earlier releases (years ago) were poor. But lately, they've been putting out some really well done stuff. The Flash Gordon animated series leaps to mind as a great set, and I know they've done some other things as well (animated and otherwise).

The picture quality may be iffy (and it probably would be no matter who put this out), but I suspect the whole package will be put together nicely with some great extras.

Wow, I used to watch this all the time of the Gameshow channel...I always thought Bob Barker looked weird not hosting a show lol

vegasbaby 10-13-06 07:45 AM

Richard gets dissed on the front cover!

I'm psyched!

Deadpool 10-13-06 12:19 PM

Same here! Wow, does this bring back some of my earliest childhood tv watching memories..

RKillgore 10-13-06 03:58 PM

They need to package that set with a skinny mic.

I noticed the same thing...funny, since Match Game made Dawson a star (sorry, Hogan Heroes & Diana Dors fans) and his appearances on this show got him the hosting job on Family Feud. Any bets it has something to do with Richard's "lack-of-cooperation" with the producers of this set?

It's more likely that when people think of Match Game, they think of Charles Nelson Riley and Brett Summers. Those are the two that pop immediately into my head. Of course, if you're looking for an angle, you could say they were racist for not putting Nipsey Russell on the cover. :)

Or red-a-phobic, due to the absence of Fanny Flagg!

MATCH GAME = BEST GAME SHOW EVER!

I love it, watch it everyday on GSN. Defnitely getting this dvd. Gene was the best host on any show.

L Chabert Lover 10-14-06 04:45 PM

I knew it was too good to be true. :(

It's still up for pre-order at DDD, and about $12 cheaper to boot.

BTW, TVShowsOnDVD.com has now posted a news item about the set.

Richard is on the back with Betty White.

I really only had room for 3 good size pictures on the front. Gene was a given, and I just couldn't separate Brett and Charles.

She's on the top spine in her red and yellow "Superman" shirt.

Numanoid 10-14-06 10:47 PM

Match Game is the greatest. My girlfriend and I watch it constantly. I'll definitely be picking this up.

Pleasured?

Brett and Charles were the only "regulars" to appear on the entire run of the show (except for when Charles went off to direct a play on occasion and was replaced by the insufferable Gary Burghoff). Richard wasn't a regular on the last few seasons of MG due to Family Feud.

It just isn't set up in their system yet. I have a finished slipcase sitting on my desk. It will be out on street date as promised.

MontyPythonFan 10-18-06 07:21 PM

Hey David, any news on the episode count for this set?

I'm pretty excited about this!

Rammsteinfan 10-18-06 07:33 PM

30 eps it would seem...

MontyPythonFan 10-18-06 07:47 PM

Thanks for the link!

MontyPythonFan 11-26-06 01:38 PM

So...any thoughts? Mine is currently on its way!

pete1974 12-31-06 11:38 PM

Is anyone else having problems with garbled video on disc 4 of this set?

Garbled or out of sync? There is an episode on my set that has a delay in the audio by a couple of seconds.

pete1974 01-01-07 11:04 PM

Definitely Garbled, there are no visible scratches on the disc either.

On disc two? I am surmising that a few seconds of footage was damaged, and I didn't care for how they fixed it. They had the few seconds of black after the footage ended and waited for the sound to catch up. I would have rather they replaced the missing footage with black and kept the sound in sync with the rest of the footage.

At least they included the episode, and didn't decide to scrap it because a couple seconds was unsalvageable.

Would that be the episode with Nancy Kulp (Miss Hathaway from Beverly Hillbillies)? That one had about a minute of un-synched audio. It's on Disc 1. I think. I'm not aware of any problems in the other discs because I haven't watched them yet. As always, my "to watch" pile is so high it threatens to topple over.

SI78 01-02-07 03:20 PM

Yes. My disc 4 is all messed up. The original pilot won't play at all, and everything else on the disc (except for the new interviews with Brett) freeze up after a few seconds.

After trying the disc on multiple players, I've contacted Amazon to do an exchange on it.

The Best of Match Game - Volume II has been rumored on the GSN forums...

As have other shows owned by Fremantle (I don't know if I have that spelling correct...)...which, AFAIK, includes Price is Right. Here's hoping we get a TPIR set for the 35th year and to commemorate Bob Barker's departure from the series.

SLeopold 03-19-07 04:57 PM

I really hope that Volume II has the New Years Eve shows. I loved it when GSN ran a marathon of those.
