Saturday Night Live: The Complete First Season - 12/5/2006

I saw this listed under Columbia House's pre-order titles. I hadn't heard anything about this coming, so it was a surprise to me.

They showed a list price of $69.99, with a club pre-order price of $52.46. Their pre-order prices are usually slightly above the lowest street prices.

Here it is. After years of waiting and compilation videos, the incredible Season One of the groundbreaking late night sketch comedy series. Everything you could possibly want is featured in this 8-disc set including all of the episodes in their entirety and as they appeared when they first aired, all of the musical numbers and much more. And don't forget the amazing cast of young soon-to-be superstars that included Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtain and more. Guest host the inaugural season include Rob Reiner, George Carlin, Candice Bergen, Lily Tomlin, Anthony Perkins, Raquel Welch and, in a major coup, Richard Pryor. Musical guests were abound as well with a line-up that includes Paul Simon, Joe Cocker, ABBA, Anne Murray, Jimmy Cliff, Toni Basil, Patti Smith, Gordon Lightfoot and more. This was the season where anything went and the amazing cast set the standard for years to come. Whether you are watching a commercial for the Bass-O-Matic or laughing at Belushi's Samurai Deli, this set is sure to be one you watch over and over.

I *never* thought that we'd see these. I figured rights issues would be too complicated. This is great news. I can't see myself buying the whole series, but definitely several.

I hope it doesn't take too long to get to the crew of Farley, Sandler, Spade and co.

Wow, really? That's surprising. Getting the rights had to have been insane.

I'd definitely pick these up (at least for the first 5 years).

CH.com

I just preordered mine for $41.99 through CH.com, not a bad price I'd guess.

I guarantee you that they'll still pick & choose which seasons they release.

There's no way that the season with Denny Dillon will be released before a season with Myers, Carvey, Hartman, Farley, & Sandler. No fucking way.

If they do release that forgotten season (doubtful), hopefully it'll be uncut and that F-Bomb will remain intact.

Depending on how involved Lorne Michaels is with these releases, there's a chance that they might skip over all the non-Lorne seasons from the 80's (with the possible exception of Eddie Murphy's biggest seasons), and go to the Hartman years.

No love for Rich Hall? The first time I saw Cheri Oteri do Mickey the Dyke I was drunk on the couch of my dorm room and I screamed out, "Holy (expletive) they brought back Robin Duke!"

I still enjoy those re-runs on NBC after the new SNL's, but mainly I'm laughing at, not with.

Anyone seen this available anywhere else (DDD, amazon) for preorder?

85-86 were the best seasons in my humble opinion, let's hope they get that far in the releases

No, but I emailed tvshowsondvd, and they're looking into it. I sure hope it's not just a Columbia House exclusive. I guess I'd have to join, then.

If it were an exclusive, though, would it even have a list price in comparison to member price? What's the point of listing that if you're the only place that carries it anyway?

Not sure, but I wouldn't think so. I don't believe they have many, if any, exclusive titles.

Maybe they will release the first seasons after each major cast change and go from there. They could release season 1, season 6, season 12, and season 20, then follow up with season 2, season 7, season 13, and season 21, etc. That way we all could get to our favorites soon.

I think they should try and release these in "era" sets, so people who want later stuff aren't waiting forever.

Personally I'm interested in the Eddie Murphy era stuff.

Personally, I'd buy a season every month. Hell, I'd even buy the shitty seasons (such as 80-81 and 85-86) just for prosperity. However, I'm sure most of us would give up in the late 90s era.

Image Entertainment had it right when they released NBC's Saved by the Bell: The New Class on DVD. They blew out a season every two months having the entire series (all seven seasons) out on DVD from January 2005 - December 2005.
