i'll be glad to order this along with Little Miss Sunshine with a big smile on my face.

Willh51 10-09-06 07:31 PM

Great movie, glad it appears to be a pretty decent DVD. I'll be interested to see the making-of on this one. It's nice to see R.D. Jr. back in good movies.

dpz301 10-09-06 07:39 PM

never got to see this in theatres, but the concept seemed pretty interesting to me. might have to pick it up on dvd if not rent.

Cameron 10-09-06 07:46 PM

i wondered if they were going to give us any footage non animated...

alfonsosoriano 10-09-06 07:47 PM

I wanted to see this but the showings were pretty limited around here. I'll rent first.

ReduxGuy 10-09-06 11:25 PM

Great news. The best animated feature of the year.

Arpeggi 10-10-06 12:15 AM

Best movie ever.

redrum 10-10-06 02:25 AM

really wanted to catch this in theatres but didn't.

kms_md 10-10-06 08:16 AM

I would assume so in this featurette:
"The Weight of The Line: Animation Tales" (featuring animator interviews, studio B-roll, pencil tests, production art and step by step examples of the animation process) and trailers. Retail is $27.99.
Since it is basically rotoscoping we will see atleast a few shots of the non-animated footage.

mdc3000 10-10-06 12:01 PM

I think it would have been pretty awesome to have an alternate angle with the live action footage for the whole film...I know that's a tall order and may have required a lot more work/money, but it could have been very cool. I loved this movie, so I'll be all over it in one way or another.

I wish Warner Bros. would use this opportunity to get Linklater's "Suburbia" out on DVD but I doubt we'll ever see it.

animatedude 10-10-06 02:26 PM

i agree with mdc3000....

matome 10-10-06 03:03 PM

Was going to seeing this in the theaters, but I blinked and missed it. Guess I'll have to look forward to it on disc.

ugh!!! worst.artwork.ever!! what warner bros. was thinking?!

CinemaNut 10-11-06 04:34 PM

This really got short shrift at the theater. Guess the studios assume people are dumbed down and dont wanna think about a movie anymore.

I actually really like that cover art! Usually I would always prefer the original poster art, but I think this DVD cover is better than the original one-sheet. I'm impressed. You can see the back cover here: http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...er-darkly.html

Saw this movie twice in the theater and will be snatching up the DVD on release day.

As a fan of Linklater's other films, I can say...no.

mdc3000 12-19-06 12:13 PM

Yes it is that good...definitely a must see.

Heartagram 12-19-06 03:05 PM

I agree, a great disc to pick up, the movie alone is worth it.

As a fan of P.K. Dick's other books (but only one other movie of his stuff), I can say ...absolutely.

I'm stoked. Saw this five times in the theater, got my Netflixed one at home waiting for me and my own copy on its way from DDD. The ending was a bit hurried, but otherwise the best book to film I've ever seen. (Nineteen Eighty Four w/ John Hurt comes close, but ASD takes the cake!)

+ Just watched the Weight of the Line extra and ...cooool. Sometimes when I see people talking about what went into something so wonderful I can mist up a bit. (I studied character animation, so I was a bit more into it probably.)

At this moment I am so happy about this getting made. If Pan's Labrynth is not my favorite movie of the year, I will be surprised. If it ties with this one I might not be.

Kudama 12-19-06 10:42 PM

Jumping because- Did anyone else have trouble with disc? I put it it in the player before I turned the TV on and when I did (30 min later) it was already on the final credits and then switched over to the last scene and was pixellating like mad. It was a Netflix mass produced disc and I'm hoping that's it. Anyone watch the store bought disc? Any problems?

The other extra was awesome as fuck. Footage of PKD on French (I think) television, from an early sci fi con and talking about the book.

Holding off on the movie because my friend would rather watch it tomorrow and, well...I have seen it a lot of times. At this point, it's about watching it again with friends that haven't seen it yet. I don't know why that's so much fun, but it is.

pickleman 12-20-06 02:16 PM

Who has the best price on this dvd?

pagansoul 12-21-06 11:34 AM

I went to BB and saw it for $19.99, no first week discount, so went to WM and got it for $13.86. I watched it last night and it ran beautifully. I'm still viewing the Special Features....good stuff.

My Netflix copy worked perfectly. I'm a Linklater fan going back to "Slacker", however, I rarely blind-buy discs (at least if I can Netflix 'em first) and unfortunately missed this one in theaters. But now that I've seen "A Scanner Darkly", I'm definitely adding it to the permanent collection.

Kudama 12-23-06 05:43 AM

Yay!!! I'm up in the middle of the night. My boss gave me a bottle of wine for Ex-Mass (PC mutha-phuka) and I'm fixin' to enjoy this again (I can't wait to see the lil' vector cat that they show for a second).

Big ass :) (To avoid Sir MixAlot confusion: This just means I am steeee-oked!)

(I love the score....a lot)

Oh yeah. I'm hopped up on coffee. The effects of the emotion driven wine and caffeine should add to this viewing. (I could wait...but I'm not gonna)

smurr05 12-23-06 11:40 AM

I have been to 2 best buy's and walmart and none of them had this in stock. BB said, " we only got a couple of copies in"! Dang it-wanted to pick this up locally but guess I'll have to order on line-
