Garth Brooks lives only about 20 minutes away from me in a little town called Claremore, Oklahoma. He and Trisha Yearwood are often seen around town, and seeing them is so common that people don't even really bug them when they're at the store or eating out. Just a nod or a hello. Garth is an extremely nice, very generous man who does lots and lots of work with the Make-a-Wish foundation, and while I've never been a huge fan, I will probably pick up the DVD set at such a low price point. That is an incredible deal.

Having seen all five discs, I can say that your average Garth fans should be very happy — all of the concerts have been remixed in DD 5.1 and there are bonus songs, photo galleries and three never-before-seen videos included on the fifth disc. It's a pretty slick package for only $20 ... the discs aren't secured in the safest fashion (each disc is on a card which folds up to fit inside the tin ... kind of an accordion effect) but the tin itself is very sturdy.

"Who he?" ;)

How is the video quality? What's on disc 5? Thanks.

soonercineaste 11-01-06 10:23 AM

Video quality is solid if unspectacular ... all four concerts are presented in 1.33:1 fullscreen ... the fifth disc houses the 15 music videos.

Gee, why didn't they include one disc as "The Complete Chris Gaines" I've been aching for more of that goodness for years.
j/k of course

Quake1028 11-01-06 11:46 AM

Yep. Got the CD set last Christmas and will probably get this set this year. Garth Brooks and The Dixie Chicks are really the only country singers I can stand.

smurr05 11-03-06 05:14 AM

Just played the "central park" show, and my version is missing the following 3 songs that have been listed as being there by bigjims set list:
Beaches of Cheyenne
that summer
thunder rolls
Do I have a bad copy or were these tracks omited?
any info appreciated-

juanmgonzalez 11-03-06 07:36 AM

19.99 in stores - picked up 2 copies yesterday

Sorry, I guess they've been omitted cause I was going by my old VHS tape for that concert.

EdTheRipper 11-03-06 08:44 AM

I'm definitely planning on picking this set up one of these days.

Anyone know if these are REAL 5.1 remixes?

Not according to the thread below. I guess you get what you pay for... shame they couldn't take the time to do real audio mixing and mastering... DTS would have been awesome.

Watched disc one. Liked the sound quality a lot. Video is pretty good -- about what I expected for early 90's TV. I remember Garth's intro, but I don't remember all the cheesy interview segments. Were they in the original TV broadcast, or were they placed on the video version instead of commercial breaks?

Damn, Texas girls had silly looking hair in the early 90's.

Decker 11-04-06 02:19 AM

BTW : How the hell could they release this set without some sort of booklet? Even more amazing, there's not even a track listing in the packaging. I think that's pretty abysmal, even at this bargain-basement price.

Love Garth, love this set, own all his cd's & boxed sets, saw him numerous times in concert. This boxed set is amazing! I applaud him for keeping the price down at something reasonable....no matter what his motives are. He did the same for his fans by demanding that his concert tickets be under 20 bucks.

CinemaNut 11-06-06 02:36 PM

This is on my XMAS list! I hate that I gotta send my family into WALMART for this but what can ya do..

bigjim25 11-24-06 08:15 AM

$15 til 11am at WALMART this morning, the 5 CD/1 DVD set from last year is also $15 today til 11am.

Alan Smithee 11-24-06 03:56 PM

Had to pass on the $15 deal because I was already buying too much stuff. Will probably end up picking this up before it's gone though- I got a free promo copy of "This Is Garth Brooks" on laserdisc and it's pretty good, even though it's country :)

Well he should feel absolutely awful, because his album "The Chase" was the first release to start the increasing of already too-high CD prices. It was priced at $16.99 instead of the usual $15.99, and even the stores that usually discounted were selling it at a higher than usual price. Most of the big-name releases that came out after that followed the lead, and I then began to lose interest in CD collecting and music in general.

GatorDeb 12-07-06 01:15 AM

Both the CD and this set are $15 now at Walmart.com :D

Snowmaker 12-07-06 09:12 AM

It was $15 at my Wal-Mart this week. I still passed.

GatorDeb 12-07-06 02:41 PM

I came to this thread yesterday after searching for Criterion (go figure) and got both sets today :D Over 70 songs and 7 hours of video for $30 is a steal. Just finished ripping the songs and I'm ripping 2 of the 6 DVDs total as we speak. Then it all goes back on the box until I figure out where to display the boxes.
