What Remains Missing From the Catalog of Stephen King Films?

By my count, we have the following:

THE SHINING [1980] in anamorphic widescreen (soon to be rectified)
"The Boogeyman" (short film)
"The Woman in the Room" (short film)
"Disciples of the Crow" (short film based on "Children of the Corn")
"Srazhenie" (Russian short film of the short story "Battleground")
"Strawberry Spring" (short film)
"The Last Rung on the Ladder" (short film)
CUJO in anamorphic widescreen
THE LAWNMOWER MAN: Director's Cut (a tenuous connection to King, yes, but nevertheless...)
"Sorry, Right Number" and "The Word Processor of the Gods" episodes from "Tales From the Darkside"
IT unedited
MISERY in anamorphic widescreen
"The Moving Finger" episode from "Monsters"
"Golden Years" unedited
THE DARK HALF in anamorphic widescreen
NEEDFUL THINGS extended version (as often shown on TBS/TNT)
THINNER in anamorphic widescreen (the current release is widescreen, but non-anamorphic)
TRUCKS in anamorphic widescreen (the current release is widescreen, but non-anamorphic)
Michael Jackson's GHOSTS
"Revelations of Becka Paulson" episode of the 1990's "The Outer Limits"
"Night Surf" (short film)
"Rainy Season" (short film)
"The Man in the Black Suit" (short film)
"All That You Love Will Be Carried Away" (short film)
"Sueño de Harvey, El (Harvey's Dream)" (short film)
"Luckey Quarter" (short film)
"Sorry, Right Number" (short film)
"Home Delivery: Servicio a domicilio" (short film)
"Gotham Cafe" (short film)
"I Know What You Need" (short film)
"Femme dans la chambre, La" (short film based on "The Woman in the Room")
"Suffer the Little Children" (short film)

Anyone know of any others, or are any of these actually on Region 1 DVD and I'm not aware?

***EDITED to remove THE NIGHT FLIER (which I have confirmed is anamorphic widescreen) and "Gramma" (which has been released in a TWILIGHT ZONE '85-'86 set) and to add THINNER and TRUCKS***

basaro 10-01-06 05:41 PM

Yowzaa! That looks like a pretty complete list, I was only waiting for a few of the obvious ones like Cujo and Dark Half, but maybe I need to look out for more King stuff cause I'm a sucker for his works.
So, how many King related dvd's do you have?

ignition 10-01-06 05:48 PM

The Langoliers

GIjon213 10-01-06 07:39 PM

Dreamcatcher, and isn't Desperation coming out on DVD?

Filmmaker 10-01-06 08:18 PM

gijon213, DREAMCATCHER is out on DVD--I just bought it last week for $4.88 at Wal-Mart. DESPERATION came out on DVD in late August.

ignition, THE LANGOLIERS is on DVD and, as far as I know, properly presented without edits in the proper screen format.

basaro, I own 33 on DVD:

CARRIE: Special Edition
'SALEM'S LOT [1979]
THE SHINING [1980]
"The Boogeyman" and "The Woman in the Room" on VHS :(
"Disciples of the Crow" on VHS :(
CREEPSHOW
THE DEAD ZONE: Special Collector's Edition
CHRISTINE: Special Edition
CHILDREN OF THE CORN: Special Divimax Series Edition
FIRESTARTER on LaserDisc :( (but I hear it's at least equal, if not better, in quality than the DVD and has the trailer, which the DVD is missing)
CAT'S EYE
SILVER BULLET
MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE (Anchor Bay version)
STAND BY ME: Deluxe Edition
CREEPSHOW 2: Special Divimax Series Edition
THE RUNNING MAN: Special Edition
PET SEMATARY: Special Collector's Edition
TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE: THE MOVIE
GRAVEYARD SHIFT
IT (2 versions: edited on DVD with commentary track and unedited on LaserDisc with no commentary track)
MISERY
SLEEPWALKERS
THE TOMMYKNOCKERS (Artisan/Live version)
THE STAND
THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION: 10th Anniversary Deluxe Limited Edition
DOLORES CLAIBORNE
THE SHINING [1997]
APT PUPIL
STORM OF THE CENTURY
THE GREEN MILE (soon to be traded out for the Special Edition in November)
ROSE RED
DREAMCATCHER
KINGDOM HOSPITAL: The Entire Series (ships to me tomorrow as part of a discount offer with Google and buy.com)
SECRET WINDOW
RIDING THE BULLET
DESPERATION
...and I intend to by NIGHTMARES AND DREAMSCAPES the day of its release later this month

In terms of releases that aren't inadequate (see above) or poor remakes of superior filmed versions (like the TV version of CARRIE and the recent TNT remake of 'SALEM'S LOT), I still need:

SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK
THE MANGLER
THE LANGOLIERS
THINNER (god, what a shitty movie)
TRUCKS
QUICKSILVER HIGHWAY
THE X-FILES: The Complete Fifth Season (for the episode "Chinga")
HEARTS IN ATLANTIS
THE DIARY OF ELLEN RIMBAUER

"Golden Years" unedited
I presume by "unedited" you mean as originally aired, divided into episodes and without the tacked on ending? I wouldn't mind having both versions of the final episode, but more importantly there should be a featurette explaining what the plan was for the rest of the series.

There are substantially more edits than just the ending; the unedited LaserDisc, which contains everything aired, runs 360 minutes. By contrast, the sliced-and-diced DVD runs only 232 minutes.

kevkev 10-02-06 02:12 AM

theres a slightly longer workprint of creepshow.

Filmmaker 10-02-06 06:56 AM

Personally, I wouldn't be interested in a workprint unless it also represented a director's cut; virtually any film can be said to have a longer workprint...

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were trying to compile a list of his works that are on DVD. My bad.

Trout 10-02-06 03:08 PM

How many versions of Salem's Lot (1979) were there?

Filmmaker 10-02-06 03:50 PM

Trout, there were two, a pretty good one in 1979 and a pretty crappy one in 2004.

No, I meant versions of the '79 one. I seem to remember a longer version and a much shorter one, and I also remember hearing about a European theatrical cut (which might be the shorter version).

...and the '04 one was pretty crappy.

domino harvey 10-02-06 11:49 PM

I'd kill each and every one of you for a DVD release of that four hour Needful Things cut they show on TNT. how has this not happened

wahlers 10-03-06 08:25 AM

IMDB has this to say about Salem's Lot (1979):

Broadcast on network TV in the United States to fill a 200 minutes time slot; later cut to 150 minutes. An alternate 112 minutes cable-TV cut was released theatrically in Europe and is available on video in the USA. The 112 minute version contains an altered scene of Cully Sawyer threatening Larry Crockett with a shotgun. Larry holds the shotgun barrel in his mouth, though in the mini-series he holds the barrel in front of his face. There is also an extended scene of Bill Norton impaled on antlers. Also, Salem's Lot: The Movie has some different music from the mini-series version.

The DVD contains 183 minute version which is the complete mini-series.

Also, not to be picky or something, but just to stop 'Needful Things' from going to way of 'Dune' (i.e. rumour mills running wild), the director's cut that aired on TNT was almost exactly 3 hours without commercials (while the theatrical cut was 2 hours exactly).

This is on Disc #5 of the first season set:

Even has a couple of audio commentaries, as I recall. Harlan Ellison and others.

OwlAtHome 10-03-06 11:10 AM

I just watched Night Flier last night and it is indeed anamorpci widescrren (1.85).

Also the the mention of a shorter version of Salem's Lot may be the sequel A Return To Salem's Lot which runs about an hour & 40 minutes.

Personally I'd like to see an uncut version of It and all the short films compiled onto a DVD. There seems no other way to see those.

Oops, misunderstood the question as well. Sorry, I actually own The Langoliers too! haha

See, this just confuses the hell out of me--I've found reviews on the internet that mention the DVD is 1.33:1 and others that say it is in anamorphic widescreen. The only copies I've ever seen of the DVD make no reference to being widescreen on the back of the case. Is there anything on your case, OwlAtHome, that indicates it is widescreen?

bboisvert, I'll correct my list accordingly.

DRG 10-03-06 04:40 PM

This is the first I've heard of the extended cut of Needful Things. I loved the book but always felt the movie was pitifully skimpy in story, even moreso than the usual book-to-movie translations. How well does the extra hour flesh out the story?

This won't improve your mood on the situation, I got the DVD from a DVD trading site where you only send the disc so I have no case. Sorry I couldn't help.

Filmmaker 10-03-06 06:39 PM

Crap...thanks anyway; you've given me hope, at least...

Very well, I feel. It really makes a world of difference.
