1. 10/01/06 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003, DVD - my collection)
Yes, I began my Halloween movie viewing with a remake... so call me a hypocrite. But I did LOVE this version of the movie. It managed to be just as creepy as the original and still manage to throw in a few extra scares. And... the prequel comes out on Wednesday and I wanted to reacquaint myself with the movie. I had actually planned to watch a whole bunch more today to kick off the official Halloween season, but it was a major "catch up on chores" day. We did watch Wizard of Oz twice (my daughter LOVES it). Does that count??? There is a witch (actually 3 witches) and scary flying monkeys.

2. 10/02/06 - Sssssss (1973, DVR - Encore Mystery)
I remember seeing a commercial for this movie on late night broadcast television about 25 years ago when I was about 8 years old. It looked MUCH scarier then.

3. 10/03/06 - Prom Night (1980, DVD - my collection)
Presented in all of its full frame boom-mic-in-almost-every-shot glory Another movie that I watched as a kid and remembering it being much better back then. I actually used to play "Prom Night" with some (now distant) cousins of mine back then One of us would be the killer, the others would be the victims. Most kids my ager were readng comics... I was playing "Prom Night".
Aside from the first 5 minutes of the movie, the first hour is pretty dull. Only the last 30 minutes actually feature the killer doing anything... then the picture is too dark to actually see anything.

4. 10/04/06 - Army of Darkness: Director's Cut (1992, DVD - my collection)
"Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun." More of an action movie than horror, but it IS a sequel to an Evil Dead movie. Fun and campy. The "Director's Cut" ending was WAY better than the theatrical version.

5. 10/06/06 - The Grudge (2004, DVD - my collection)
I got this from a friend of mine about a year ago and I just finally got around to watching it. Good movie... pretty creepy. I'll have to check out Ju-on: The Grudge and The Grudge 2 now as well. I might do a "Dead-A-Thon" next week... one "Dead" movie each night.

6. 10/07/06 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006, Theater)
Very similar to the 2003 version. Obviously being "The Beginning", it showed more of how it all started, but it had a similar vibe to the previous installment. Of course, when there are characters in this movie that are the next one as well, you know that they aren't going to die and that the characters that aren't in the next one will. So it kind of takes the "is he/she going to die?" element out of it. But it was still fun... and gory.

7. 10/08/06 - It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966, DVD – My collection)
After a day at the pumpkin patch with the fam, this was the perfect thing to watch. I never realized it before, but when Sally is yelling at Linus in the pumpkin patch it sounds like Joey Lauren Adams yelling at Ben Affleck in the rain in Chasing Amy.

8. 10/08/06 - Night of the Living Dead (1968, DVD – my collection)
I watched the colorized version with the audio commentary by Mike Nelson of “Mystery Science Theater 3000”. I’ve seen this movie so many times so I needed a slight variation. I’ve actually had this DVD version for a while. I figured now was a good time to pull it out and watch it. The commentary, while not very informative, is hilarious.

9. 10/09/06 - 10/10/06 - Dawn of the Dead (1978, DVD – my collection)
After almost an hour into the movie on Monday night, fatigued started kicking my ass and I had to give in and go to sleep. So I finished the rest of the movie tonight. This kinda sucks since the original Dawn of the Dead is my favorite zombie movie. I would rather have watched it all the way through. As I write this, I am practically falling asleep (yeah, I'm turning into a whimp... a 2 year old will do that to ya) so I will wait until tomorrow to start Day of the Dead.

10. 10/13/06 - Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984, DVD – My Collection)
What else would you expect me to watch. As I said to my wife when she asked which Final Chapter this was... "Well, actually, they've only lied to us twice when they said it was the last Jason movie." This was the last of the "old school" Jason before he became "undead".

11. 10/14/06 - Hocus Pocus (1993, Cable - Disney Channel)
I started watching this with the intention of turing on something more "sinister"... then I got hooked and watched the whole thing. Fun movie. My daughter has a thing for wtiched now so it kept her mildly entertained as well. I'll have to pick up the DVD if I can find it for cheap.

12. 10/14/06 - Saturday The 14th (1981, DVD - Borrowed)
What else did you expect me to watch? Seriously though, I had just remembered that I was borrowing this from a friend and figured tonight was good time to watch it. Cheesy, but fun spoof on horror movies. I'd pick this up too if I found it cheap.

13. 10/16/06 - Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990, DVR - IFC)
The last time I saw this movie was opening night at The Norridge Theater back '90. I liked it enough, but that was before I had seen any of the other "Chainsaw" movies in their entirety. Watching it tonight I realized how tame and "purified" it is compared to it's predecessors and the recent remake and it's prequel. It was truly "Leatherface for the early 90s". It's obvious that New Line Cinema was trying to make a franchise out of Leatherface to keep up with Freddy, Jason, Pinhead, Chucky, etc... I guess the world wasn't ready for that quite yet. I did like the movie, I just never realized any of what I just mentioned before viewing it tonight.

I tried to see this in the theater when it came out, but I wasn't fast enough. But after getting a "go-ahead" from some of my "Monster Show" buddies, I bought the DVD for $6.99 back in August. I just got around to watching it now. Good movie. I definitely got enough bang for my buck.

23. 10/30/06 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986, DVD)
I have only seen this once in the past, but remember liking it so I picked up the "Gruesome Edition" a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad I did. What a fun movie! Although I don't remember it looking so "80s"... probably because it was the 80s when I saw this last.

10/31/06 -
I'd like to report that I had a "Halloween-A-Thon", but this just didn't happen. Aside from about 5 minutes of Mickey's House of Villains and 5 minutes of Regis and Kelly (hey, they had a Halloween theme!!), the only thing on the TV was The Wiggles and Barney for my daughter. The rest of the day was spent doing Halloween things: Pictures at Sears, pumpkin carving, trick or treating, visit to Grandma's, etc... and I am ok with that. My goal was 31, I did 23. I'll try again next year.

I needed something “Halloween-related” to watch before my daughter went to bed so Alvin and the Chipmunks it was. Really, the only episodes on this DVD that actually fit the bill are “Trick or Treason” and “Nightmare On Seville Street”, but they were all fun enough to watch.

A couple of weeks ago, the Sci-Fi channel started airing re-runs of Tales From The Darkside, the eerie TV series from the 80s. I started DVRing it this week. I used to watch this show at like 11:30pm back in the day. Fun, "Twilight Zone"-like episodes. We taped the Halloween episode of the World of the Weird Monster Show so I didn't get home until after 10pm. I didn't feel up to watching a full movie so an episode of Tales From The Darkside fit nicely.

8. 10/12/06 - Scary Godmother - Halloween Spooktakular (2003, DVD - my collection)
I spent most of the day working outside in the cold today so it's early to bed for me. I needed to turn on something Halloween-ish, yet kid friendly. My 2 year old actually watched most of it with me. I guess my "Dead-A-Thon" was cut short a little early. I'll have to pick up with Day of the Dead in the near future.

Well, my Halloween viewing for 10/15 was kind of "bleh". The wife and I did a dinner and a movie ("Man of the Year"). By the time we got home it was late and we had tons of laundry to put away from my trip to the laundramat that afternoon. So I turned on Tales from the Darkside: The Madness Room and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace: Hell Hath Fury in the the background. But in all honesty... I wasn't really paying attention to with either show and couldn't tell you what either one was about (except that an iron was attacking Garth Marenghi in one scene).

Making it an early night. But had to watch this fun Halloween episode of Home Improvement before bed.

The cast all experience some kind of experience that resembles one of the Hitchcock thrillers. Lots of fun. Another cool thing about this episode is the opening credits: Cheap Trick's rendition of "In The Streets" with added ghoulish Halloween keyboards... AWESOME!!

21. 10/29/06 - Movies That Shook The World: The Exorcist
People were fainting in the theaters and many people had to get up and leave when this was first released??? What a bunch of wusses!!! I know, I know. Times were different in 1973. I just sounds odd to hear about all of that. Jeez, those same people would probably have a heart attack if they saw one of the "Saw" movies back then.

22. 10/29/06 - It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Yes, I know I watched this already. But we had to turn on something that the little one might sit through while we got ready to go out. I did fast-forward though the "World War I Flying Ace" scene... BORING!!!!!

23. 10/30/06 - Mickey's House of Villains (2002, DVD)
Well, we didn't watch ALL of this as the little one needed a bath. We will probably watch the rest of it tomorrow afternoon. Some fun shorts in this one.

1. Hard Candy - ***1/2 This one caught me by surprise, I'd heard some buzz, but wasn't expecting this. A bit cringe inducing, but I enjoyed this one.
2. The Shining - **** Jack is unequaled in these types of roles. This one never gets old.

October 2nd
3. Nightmare Before Christmas **** I thoroughly enjoyed this movie so much more this year. I think that with so many wannabe movies of this genre cropping up, I now have a new appreciation for Tim Burton at his best.
4. Frankenstein *** My first time viewing the movie that has inspired so many versions. I was amazed at how clean this picture was for its age.
5. Sleepy Hollow *** I love what Johnny Depp does with any character that he plays. Nothing especially special about this one, but it made for a good popcorn flick.

October 3rd
6. Silent Hill 1/2* - I simply don't enjoy these types of movies. I can't express how little patience I have for horror flicks, but in the spirit of Halloween, I thought that I'd give it a try. I should have slept.
7. Corpse Bride **1/2 - A pick me up after Silent Hill. Not as good as I thought it would be, but I enjoyed it enough nonetheless.

October 6th
8. Dracula - ***1/2 - I loved this. Again, I first time viewing for me (along with Frankenstein) and thoroughly enjoyed it.
9. Bram Stoker's Dracula - **** One of my favorites (even with Keanu Reeves in it). Gary Oldman never disappoints.

October 7th
10. Cemetary Man * - Yuck. Again, I try to watch a few with some gore, but grow tired very quickly.
11. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown - **** Aah, I nice classice to close out the evening before my long break. This is a MUST SEE every fall.

I'm swamped with work and other family activities until October 15th.....a long outage, but I'll be back at this next week....it's been fun so far, structured viewing.

12. Scream - **1/2 Pure popcorn flick. I enjoy one of these ever so often. After all the send-ups, this is quite good on the 12th time around.
13. John Carpenter's The Thing **** Classic, simply stated. This one gets better each year, I insist on introducing at least one of my friends to this one and give out copies each year.

October 16th
14. From Dusk til Dawn - *** Brilliant, then it sinks real fast in the last 1/4, but I've grown to appreciate that final segment over the years. The lines that my husband quotes....
15. Shaun of the Dead - *** I may have missed most of the references, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one, laughed out loud and appreciated the corniness. Good stuff.

October 17th
17. Saw - 1/2* for me. ***1/2 for my husband. Disgusting. He enjoyed it thoroughly.

October 19th
18. Carrie **** Another classic, dated and all, I enjoy watching Sissy Spacek, a very young William Katt and Amy Irving. That Piper Laurie still freaks me out.
19. Christine **** - These movies are from my youth, I think that I'll always enjoy them.

20. May - ***1/2 - A nice surprise. Picked this up based on the glowing recommendation from a reviewer on this board.
21. Frailty *** - Didn't see that coming, but I tend to like anything with Bill Paxton in it.
22. Donnie Darko - **1/2 - Weird, yet it pulled me in until the closing credits rolled.

23. 28 Days Later - ***1/2 - Really enjoyed this one. Fairly straight-forward zombie flick sans all the gore. My kind of movie.

3) 5:30 PM: The Evil Dead.... Although I don't like Army of Darkness at all or Evil Dead 2 much, I still think ED is a classic.

1) 3 AM: Cape Fear.... This was the first time I saw it and I loved it. DeNiro was phenomenal.
2) 5:30 AM: MOH: Dreams in the Witch House.... I love Stuart Gordon, so this was a slight disappointment, but it wasn't bad.
3) 6:30 AM: MOH: Cigarette Burns.... I really loved this one. Carpenter did a fantastic job. Plus, how can you not love Udo Kier?
4) 10 AM: The Wolf Man.... I think it's my favorite of the Universal classic monster movies. I love it

1) 2:15 AM: Jason Goes to Hell.... One of my favorite FT13 sequels.
2) 6:30 AM: Near Dark.... Paxton and Henriksen were great. Solid movie.
3) 8:45 AM: The Mummy '32.... Boris Karloff is very creepy. You gotta love the Universal classic monster movies.

OK guys, due to all of the controversy, and good arguments made on both sides of certain issues, I've decided to do a little house-cleaning on my list of things counted so far. As this thread is meant to keep our lists, I'll post my specifics over in the other thread if anyone cares.

Even with all the controversy, I'm still having lots of fun with this. I appreciate the original poster coming up with and implimenting this. Let's remember to have fun guys.

1) Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) - Ultimate Edition DVD *****
Only my 2nd time seeing this. Amazing, scary, gritty...a benchmark. The very definition of horror movie. Excellent.

October 2:
2) The Haunting (1963) - DVD ****
Such a great, creepy movie. Proves that in some cases, less is more. Scares the crap out of you without really showing you much of anything. Funny how this and the remake are pretty much polar opposites in this regard. Unlike most people, I enjoy the remake too, but this one takes the cake. I love the bulging door scene...great stuff.

3) Red Dragon (with Commentary) (2002) - DVD ****
Just watched this last month, so I don't feel bad about counting the commentary. To me this one got a bad rep, and I find it very entertaining. No, it doesn't hang with Silence, but it is a worthy entry in the trilogy and is slightly better than Hannibal to me. I also like it slightly better than Manhunter, which I know is blasphemy to most. Can't get enough of that flaming wheelchair!

4) Silence of the Lambs (with Commentary) (1991) - Criterion DVD *****
Again, I watched this sans commentary last month, so I don't feel bad about counting it with. This is the top of the heap in the crime drama/thriller catagory to me. One of the best movies ever made, and the benchmark for an entire genre. The commentary track is also awesome, and includes a real FBI agent who consulted for the film. The insight that he adds into real world serial killers reminds us that this type of thing isn't always fiction..and that's far scarier than any movie.

October 5:
5) Nightmares (1983) - HD on DVR *** (new to me)
Now this is some great 80's cheesiness! It's a four segment anthology. The first focuses on a woman who just has to go out to get cigarettes in the middle of the night, in a town where a killer is known to be on the loose. The fun that ensues is a retread of an urban legend seen in a few different movies and shows, but never the less it's fun to watch. The second is terribly cheesy fun about a kid who gets obsessed with an arcade game and gets a little too "sucked into" it! Anyone who grew up in the 80s will get a kick out of this one. The third, and probably best and most serious segment, focuses on a priest (Lance Henriksen...and his name is Frank...just like one of my favorite TV series, Millennium!) who has lost his faith and decides to leave his parish. Like usual, God works in mysterious ways to convince him to stay. Definitely reminiscent of the movie Duel, this segment was by far my favorite. The fourth chapter unfortunately ends the movie on a weak note with a story about a family dealing with a rat problem in their house that ends up being a little bigger than they thought. This one kind of sucked. Overall the whole anthology is pretty cheesy, but good fun.

Rounding out the trilogy, Hannibal to me is the weakest entry, but still very enjoyable. Lots of our favorite psychopath in this one and some great one-liners. The commentary was quite interesting to hear Mr Scott's perspective and how and why he did what he did in the movie. Good stuff.

7) Cube (with Commentary) (1997) - DVD ****
Another that we watched just a few weeks ago, this one for the first time. Absolutely brillant "simple" movie. Amazing what they could do with their shoe-string budget. If you haven't seen this one, you really should. Great characters, great set, amazing amounts of tension. Commentary was awesome. I really loved listening to the director talk about the hardships and challenges of making his first movie. Highly recommended watching.

October 7:
8) Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932) - DVR *** (new to me)
There is just something about these old classics that makes me wish for a time machine. I would love to see what it was like to see some of these movies for the first time when they were brand new, and movies (with sound no less!) were still so new and "magical". This was a lot of fun, with some great scenes. I loved the cinematography...especially during the carnival. Pretty cheesy story, but wonderful experience none the less. And there is just plain something spooky about Bela Lugosi. Can't wait to see more of these classics!

None: Spent the day at Six Flags Great America's Fright Fest. Lots of fun as always, and I briefly considered counting the Marvin the Martian 3D movie in the list...but figured we have enough controversy already! ~

9) The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) - DVD *** (new to me)
Picked up one of those cheap public domain DVD collections as it included this, Nosferatu, and a few others I haven't seen. Can't beat 10 movies for $16. I figure I can always upgrade to better DVDs if I fall in love with them. It is my understanding that Caligari is considered the first horror movie ever made, so I had to finally check it out. I'm pretty sure this is the first silent movie I've ever watched. I enjoyed this quite a bit. The set pieces were fun, and the costumes and make-up were actually quite scary. Loved the actor that played Caligari...that guy was downright creepy. Good stuff. I'm glad we're finally seeing some of these classics...good to expand the old horizons.

October 11:
10) Zombie (AKA Zombi 2) (1979) - Blue Underground DVD **1/2 (new to me)
Finally saw this one for the first time last night. I hate to say it, but I was a little disappointed. I think maybe I had my expectations a little too high. It did have some awesome gore scenes, but I really didn't care at all about the characters or the story between the kill scenes. I know that's not what you watch these movies for, but it just seemed too drawn out. Any scenes with zombies in it were cool though. That whole eye splinter scene was even crazier than I was expecting!

October 12:
11) Memento Mori (1999) - DVR *** (new to me)
Another first. Didn't care for this one as much as I was hoping. For me the first half up until the death really dragged, and I also found the timeline confusing. It was hard to follow what was "now" and what was flashback at times. The second half was much better, once the creepy stuff started happening. Definately not my favorite Asian horror, but well worth checking out. Will probably make more sense on a second viewing.

October 13:
12) Friday the 13th (1980) - UE Collection DVD ***1/2
Not much needs to be said about this one. What else would be proper to watch on a Friday the 13th in October?! The original classic. Not as fast moving or "fun" as most of the sequels, but probably the "scariest". Good stuff, even if it isn't my favorite in the series (BLASPHEMY!).

13) Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) - UE Collection DVD ****
Yup..I like this one a bit better than the original...sue me. The first one may be the overall better film, but I find this one more enjoyable to watch. I just love the wheelchair going down that huge flight of stairs!

14) Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982) - UE Collection DVD ***
One of the weaker in the series, but still good fun. The cheese is on thick in this one, and it's definately not trying to be taken seriously. Originally filmed to be shown in 3D, you can definately pick out where the big 3D "gags" were. That just adds to the charm of this movie that you just have to laugh at. It may be dumb, but I still love it. You gotta love Shelly vs Ali, Loco, and Foxy! LOL!

To me, this is one of the better sequels. Lots of fun and you gotta love Crispin Glover's crazy dance scene! Jason's head sliding down the machete is still great!

16) Hellraiser (1987) - DVD **** (new to me)
Wow...I can't believe I have never seen any of these. This was way different than I was expecting, and blew me away! Some truly nasty gore. Can't wait to see a few more of these. Great stuff!

17) Session 9 (with commentary) (2001) - DVD ****
Another commentary revisit of a movie we saw for the first time a month or so ago. This is such a creepy, under-rated movie. Good commentary too...I love the fact that they actually shot the whole movie in that creepy-ass place. If you haven't seen this one yet, it's highly recommended!

18) The Hills Have Eyes (with commentary) (1977) - DVD ***
Brutal and sometimes uncomfortable to watch, yet still enjoyable (unlike Last House for me...that one isn't fun at all). Great commentary hearing about the harsh conditions and shoe-string budget. I always love hearing how they pulled it all together.

October 22nd:
19) Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) - DVD ***1/2 (new to me)
Still can't believe I haven't seen any of these movies before. Great stuff, but not quite as good as the first. Still a very worthy sequel and lots of fun. The atmosphere created in these movies is so unique and truly scary. Parts of these movies really do seem like watching a nightmare or seeing into hell rather than watching a movie (only other time I experienced this was Suspiria and it's nightmare-ish feel). Great stuff.

20) The Machinist (2004) - DVD **** (new to me)
I loved this movie. Some may argue if this should count as a horror movie, but I place this firmly in my psychological thriller section, which I consider a subset of horror. Good twist at the end, but that's not what made the movie for me. I loved everything about this movie. Between this and Session 9...I can't wait to see what Brad Anderson does next!

21) Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005) - DVD **** (new to me)
Beautiful, touching, and surprisingly funny, with some good brutality thrown in. This is one hell of a movie. The timeline jumps around quite a bit, and I found myself lost from time to time, but that usually happens with Asian movies with me. Still, this is great stuff, and highly recommended, much like the other two in the "trilogy", Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance.

October 26th:
Yet another halloween party at our house, causing a lack of movies. Oh well...should be able to get quite a few in over the weekend. Still hopeing for 31.

22) A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - Infinifilm DVD *****
Oh...my...God. I can't believe what they were able to do to the video and audio on this beautiful DVD! If forced to pick an all time favorite horror movie, this would probably be it. I've loved it since I was a kid, and have seen it probably hundreds of times. This DVD was honestly like seeing it again for the first time. Can't wait to dive into the extras.

23) Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992) - DVD ***1/2 (new to me)
Said it before and I'll say it again...where have I been to have never seen any of the Hellraiser movies? Another great entry to the series! Huge bonus that it stars Terry Farrell, who I've had a huge crush on since Deep Space 9 first started! I miss the spots though...

24) Hellraiser: Bloodline (1996) - DVD **1/2 (new to me)
Meh. Not bad, but definately not as good as the first three. Interesting to see the origins of the box, and how it all got started though. I'd like to punch whoever decided to wuss out on Pinhead's make-up. What were they thinking?!

25) Nosferatu (1922) - DVD ***1/2 (new to me)
Way too good of a movie for the ultra crappy public domain collection DVD that I watched it on. Very bad score and the titles even had the original novel names (Count Dracula instead of Orlok, etc) instead of what they should have been. Definately need to hunt down a better version of this one. Even with the horrible score on this disk, I can see why this movie is considered one of the best. Very eerie in places. I am still amazed at what they could do in the 20s!

26) Dementia 13 (1963) - DVD *** (new to me)
Very cool flick from the same crappy DVD collection I got Nosferatu and Dr Caligari in. Even this early in his career, you could tell that Coppola was destined for greatness. Not at all what we were expecting, my wife and I both enjoyed this quite a bit. Some very cool and creepy settings in this one. Was very surprised to see a head roll! Great stuff!

27) Night of the Living Dead (1968) - Millennium Edition DVD ****1/2
Whew...was afraid I wouldn't be able to get any of Romero's unholy quadrilogy in before the end of the month. I know...no priorities. I don't need to say much here...if you haven't seen it, you are missing out on an all time classic. And for anyone who complains about zombies getting too smart in Land of the Dead, I'd like to remind them that they were pretty darn crafty already back in Night, using tools and such. Know your roots.

28) It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966) - DVD *****
Lots of controversy surrounding this one on the lists, but I've decided to count it as it is specifically in the official rules. Besides, this really is essential viewing this time of year, horror movie or not. A good reminder that this is about having fun celebrating our favorite time of the year!

29) Suspiria (1977) - Limited Edition DVD *****
Honestly didn't think I'd be able to slide in any Argento goodness this late in the month, but I pulled it off. This is just an amazing movie all around. So much beauty and brutality mixed with the best score ever recorded. Only my second time seeing this, but already one of my all time favorite movies. Great stuff.

30) Halloween (1978) - DVD *****
THE movie to watch on this night. This is the one all slashers want to be when they grow up. I wonder if John Carpenter knew what he was creating at the time. All time classic.

31) Halloween II (1981) - DVD ****
A sequel that almost lives up to the original. I love that it is a direct continuation...no break in between the stories. Almost makes it like one long movie, which is nice. A worthy follow-up.

1. Amityville Horror (2005): Well done movie that is actually scarier than the original.

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street (Infinifilm): The new Inifinifilm version looks great. Should be a staple in every Horror library

3. Friday the 13th Part 4 (The Final Chapter): OK, so this was far from the Final chapter, but what would October be without Jason? This movie picks up where the underrated Part 3 ends. One of the better sequals after Part 2.

4. Silent Hill: A nice adaptation of one of the best survival horror video games. Coming in at just over 2 hours, you get your money's worth here. A descent story, disturbing creatures, and an ending that would make Clive Barker proud. I only wish the faceless nurses got more screen time.

5. Thir13en Ghosts (2001): It's certainly not one of the best horror films of all time, but Thirt13en Ghosts has its moments. Granted the dialog can be corny at times, but the story is not half bad. The real treat though are the ghosts themselves. Most are quite grotesque and they jump out enough times to give a few fun scares. Good stuff for Halloween.

6.The Curse of Frankenstein: Peter Cushing in what is probably his most famous role. Christopher Lee is the monster. Lee would go on to portray Dracula and the Mummy for Hammer Films. A Halloween staple

8.Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed: Continuing with the Hammer Frankenstein movies, this is actually the 5th movie of the series. You don't miss anything though by jumping here. Besides, I had just watched the 3rd movie (The Evil of Frankenstein) last month. This movie is interesting in that Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) is truely evil & unlikable. His character would stop at nothing to obtain the secrets of preserving brains for later transplants. This is a must see in the Hammer world, but don't start here.

9. Frankenstein & the Monster from Hell: The 6th and final Frankenstein movie from Hammer staring Peter Cushing. This one is actually closer to the "original" story. Here we find a much older Cushing again creating a man from "salvaged" body parts. Graveyards, aylums, monsters, and mad scientists. What more can you ask for in a good Halloween movie?

13. Dracula (1931) 75th Anniv. Edition: I normally wait until closer to Halloween to break out the Universal stuff, but I was anxious to give this new edition a spin. I wasn't disappointed. The picture looks as good as it ever has considering its age. Don't expect a flawless print though. The sound could use some work. The Lugosi documentary is interesting as well. If you already have a version in your library it's definately worth an upgrade.

16. Asylum: Hammer rival Amicus serves up this creepy horror anthology. Four stories told by patients in a mental institution with a descent twist at the end. Peter Cushing makes a brief appearance in one of the stories. Good stuff for the "classic horror" buff.

21. The Return of the Evil Dead: The second movie in the Tombs of the Blind Dead series. I enjoyed this movie as much or maybe even slightly more than the first. The horror factor is certainly a bit higher as the Templars are around most of the movie. Can't wait to watch the third, though I have read it is not as good as the others.

24. The Ghost Galleon: The third movie in the Blind Dead Series. The pacing is slow at time, but the atmosphere is creepy. Not quite as good as the first two, but still quite enjoyable.

26. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers: This is a descent resurgence of the franchise on it's 10th anniversary. Note that I watched the new Divimax edition. I didn't do a side-by-side comparison to the previous Anchor Bay edition, but I can say the picture on this one looks great.

34. The Grudge 2: Decided to get out of the house for a flick. I was really looking forward to this & It's a mixed bag. In the end I liked it, but it could have been better. Definately has its moments.

35. Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes: I can't believe it took this long to get a descent sequal. I was a bit concerned since it was airing on SciFi channel, but I'm happy to say they did a descent job. OK, the actors are not great & there are a few bad CGI effects, but the flick was enjoyable for the most part. Can't wait for the follow up (They filmed two movies back-to-back).
