Yes, you can export and then import your titles to DVDSpot. Just export the titles to a CSV file and then import them on DVDSpot.

I tried exporting to a CSV file (and I opened it... it has only the title), and DVD Spot says it's not a recognizable file type. Tried saving as text and uploading... same thing. Sigh. It's like this:

Title
Title1
Title2
Title3

etc.

I think the file needs to be a ".txt" file, so just rename your ".csv" file to .txt and it should work.

I did that. The website states it can be both .csv and text, so I tried .csv and then text, no dice.

I exported as .csv from DVDprofiler and saw the same error.
I just renamed the file from xxxxx.csv to xxxxx.txt and it loaded fine.
I can't remember, I may have done a global replace to remove the " marks, but I think it worked w/o doing that.

Odd as I just exported my DVD Profiler to a csv file, title only, and imported it without any issues (the " were automatically ignored on DVDSpot).

Perhaps the issue is the amount of titles one is trying to import? Try keeping it to a 100 or so at a time.

If it's a .csv file, Excel should open it fine, unless you have over 65,000 lines of data. I've been thinking about making my own Excel-based DVD cataloging tool. I'll post it if I ever finish it.

I am having the same trouble as gator deb. It says for csv" use title and/or upc First"
My csv doesn't have a upc column...

If I go to DVD Profiler, export using csv and only the title and then import that file into DVDSpot it works for me. The only thing I can see being a problem is that it seems to be buggy with a lot of titles so I would recommend limiting it to under 100 at a time. If that doesn't work, try 75 titles until it does as there doesn't appear to be another reason why the above shouldn't work. The only thing I can think of is the amount of titles.

I've tried CSV. I've tried text. I've tried 30 entries. I've tried stripping the " "s. I've tried leaving the " " s. I've tried with "Title" in the first line, with the first DVD itself in the first line. I still get for everything:

Your uploaded collection file was not a recognized file type. Please ensure it is saved as a CSV file.

Try posting at the DVDSpot forums then as it would need to be something addressed by the site creator. Something is wonky.

RE: DVDSpot.

The issue regarding importing resulting in a not recognized file type should be fixed now. Apparently it had something to do with the mime type of the file being imported (I have no idea what that means).

One needs to limit the importing of titles to 50 or under at a time due to an issue that is attempting to be resolved. Here is the info from Croy, the site creator..

Hmmm...I just imported my 2000+ titles a few days ago, and I had no problems importing my UPC's at 200 a shot. Then again I was using .txt files from the Movie Collector export tool.

The 50 limit is just temporary while he works out that bug according to the quote.

Just to give my vote I"m a PC owner. The MAC program looks great...MAC has some cool things and I plan to eventually get one. For video editing and graphics they just can't be beat.

Right now I use www.dvdspot.com and it works great.

I can browse my list from anywhere. The worked the other days when I was at Best Buy. I wasn't quite sure if I already had a movie. I asked if I could check my list on the internet and a guy let me. Problem solved.

I suggest looking at an internet based program for that very fact. Plus you can export your list to excel and it work great being uploaded to a PDA. Then you can really check your list anywhere.

is that web based?, sorry to clarify I'm looking for a web based cd inventory program.

Every program I've seen has an option to export as .html, so having one that is internet based shouldn't be a major factor.

You can export your lists to HTML to post on your own website, but no, it's not a web-based system like DVDProfiler & DVDSpot. It does pull info (cast, specs, covers, etc.) down from websites into your database though.

Does anyone know how to export UPCs from DVDProfiler? Finally got DVDspot to work but I'm not about to start selecting within the multiple editions of each title all over again.

You need 2 programs:

Palm OS viewer: iSilo 4.32
Windows OS Converter iSiloX 4.32

1) Download and install the viewer onto your palm
2) Download and install the converter onto your PC. This will also add the "iSiloX Clipper..." to your Internet Explorer tools menu.
3) Goto www.intervocative.com and view your collection online as you normally would
4) Enter "http://www.intervocative.com/onlinecollections/dvd/InBlue/List.aspx" into the address bar and hit enter. This will bring up only the list frame for your collection. You can't go directly to this page without bringing up your full collection first.
5) In the Internet Explorer Tools menu, select "iSiloX Clipper...".
6) First time around it will ask which user to use if you have multiple Palm user accounts setup, and what device to you have to tailor the settings.
7) Enter a title, I use "DVDCollectionList".
8) Ensure "Include Images" is selected if you want the images.
9) Set "Flow links to a maximum depth of: " to 1. This will ensure that all you individual DVD page links are converter.
10) Click on Properties.
11) Click on the “Destination” tab.
12) The default destination is the internal memory of the user’s device selected in step 6. If you want to store the file on an external card, click “HotSync”, select the user, and select “External Memory card”, click “OK”. I have about 700 DVDs in my list and the file ends up being ~70MB so I store it on an external card. Be sure to remove the default internal one.
13) Click on "Links" tab.
14) Double check "Maximum Link Depth" is set to 1, and uncheck "Follow off-site links".
15) Click OK.
16) Click Convert to start converting. Mine takes about a minutes.

When done it will have created a file that will be uploaded to your Palm next time you sync. Once synced you can access the file using iSilo on you Palm. You will see the DVD collection list exactly as it appeared on the list frame only webpage. Clicking on a title will bring up the individual DVD's page, with all the same details as on the website, including the front and back images. You will also be able to view your owned, ordered, wishlist. You can search the list specific words.

Everyone is scaring me with the rumor of DVDPROFILER going away.

I really like my DVDPRO more than DVDSpot and DVDAF. How accurate are these rumors about DVDPRO's demise?

Not that I'm aware of but it isn't as tedious or time consuming as you might think. The editions are linked so it is easy to quickly see which one you might own in cases there may be a couple to choose from.
