"Backdraft" (15th Anniversary) recalled?

I just heard somewhere (don't remember where, maybe Access Hollywood) that the new 2-disc set is being recalled because of some disparaging comments by Brian Grazer about fire fighters. (He wanted it editted out)

That is why so many retailers don't have many copies and some online places are sold out.

theflyingdutch 09-21-06 11:16 AM

I can just seem some collectors now say, "oooh, I've got to get a dozen copies where Brian Grazer makes disparaging remarks about firefighters so I can get it on ebay and call it a rare edition and never available again." -rolleyes-

I've seen the bonus material, and I'm not aware of any comments by Grazer that might be seen as "disparaging". Then again, I wasn't listening for something like that, but nothing stood out as far as I can remember.

It was mentioned in the review here. I think this should DEFINITELY be filed under "rumor." I don't think this would be a slip-up that the company suddenly discovered.

I was kinda wondering why the Best Buy I went to barely had any. When I saw the title to this thread, I thought there was an issue with the transfer.

d2cheer 09-21-06 12:50 PM

My guess is that there in not many to be found is that they are selling out everywhere because it is a kick ass movie...

Abe. 09-21-06 12:55 PM

Yeah, I've actually been waiting for this release ever since I saw how awful the first DVD was...

Thereīs plenty online stores. No need to worry about this going out of stock. Unless someone has inside info.

dvd_luver 09-21-06 02:04 PM

Just a rumor, my local Wal-Mart had all the copys out and Target had them out as well. I see no need for a recall based on disparaging comments unless legal action has been taken by Brian Grazer himself because he wanted it edited out.

Okay, I remember the comment now that I've read the review, and I remember kind of doing a double-take when Grazer said that. But I think it was just a poor choice of words...Grazer was trying to say the CHALLENGE was making these characters sympathtic on screen, not saying that firemen (policemen, etc.) were unsympathic people by nature. But I can see how some have taken it the wrong way.

Just picked one up at Target an hour ago.

It's their recent 2-disc Limited Editions (Cinderella Man, Jarhead, Munich, and United 93) that go OOP before they even release. They're next to impossible to find in store and unless you order online a few weeks in advance you can't find it.

I hardly think itīs OOP already as plenty of online stores list it as in stock. Itīs not like itīs "Limited" in any way. Whatīs the truth really? Iīm confused now.

jdslater1 09-21-06 07:59 PM

I ordered it from a website on Monday and it's already been sent to me.

whotony 09-21-06 10:12 PM

i guess the hd dvd will be recalled to, right

Fok 09-21-06 10:19 PM

maybe this is a marketing stratergy

Harold Wazzu 09-21-06 11:38 PM

Still reasonably priced on ebay, so I doubt there's any truth to this...I do agree that it has been a little more difficult to find in B&Ms though
