I finished with 48, which was better than I thought I'd do. Oddly enough, Halloween was the only day that I didn't have time to watch a horror movie. It's my own fault really because I opted to watch the first disc of Kissology Vol. 1 last night and it clocks in at over 3 hours! It was fun and I look forward to doing it again next year. Hopefully I can top 50!

I had to bow out early this year but congrats to all those who were able to least get over 10!

I made it to 134 (with 54 first-time views), which is far more than I thought I'd get. Thanks to Chad for setting up the challenge, and to everyone who posted their lists and gave me more ideas.

And now...a non-horror movie...or maybe I'll just read a book...

That was a lot of fun this year. Made it to 88 and my goal was 60. I am definately going to make 100 next year.

To those who actually got over 80: how did you find the time to even post about watching them?

Assuming you have a full time job, get 6-7 hours of sleep a night, and actually watched the movies (i.e. sat in front of the TV and watched; not turned on a DVD and go the dishes/laundry/mow the lawn/go out for a drink), are there that many hours in a day?

I work full-time but managed to score quite a bit of time off. Plus, I've got a wife who kicks ass and didn't mind me spending every bit of free time I had on the couch. Now that this is over, I definitely have to make it up to her.

well I dont work and I dont have school so I had the time, probably could have got in more, but oh well I made the goal of 100 movies with a few to spare so that was enough for me.

Yes, rumor is that there are as many as 24 hours in a day. Posting takes a minute or so; that's the easy part.

As for me, on weekdays I usually watched one in the morning (horror over coffee!) and two or so more in the evening. On weekends it's easy to do more than that. It does mean not watching much that isn't horror, but that's the point of the month for me. So it can be done without a time machine, superhuman strength, or putting on a DVD and going out for a drink. Seriously.

This was loads of fun, even with all the controversy as to what should count and what shouldn't. I didn't think I'd hit my goal of 31, but I was able to just squeak it in. I'm also very happy to report that almost half of the movies watched were new to me, which was great. I discovered some really awesome movies. Many of the classics from the 20s-30s that I had never gotten around to experiencing, and my first time seeing the Hellraiser films were highlights.

Unfortunately there are many movies that I had high hopes of watching that we never got around to, but the good news is that horror movies last all year round. Since most of the movies that we watch are horror, I can't say our viewing habits changed too drastically, although we desperately need to catch up on the DVR list now!

Overall, this was lots of fun, and I definately envy those of you that were able to watch numbers in the triple digits. I especially loved following along with ViewAskewbian's awesome "Chronology of Terror". Too bad you ran out of time to keep it going through the 90s and 2000s, but it was still a valient effort, and I am very jealous of you! Very cool!

Thanks again to the original poster, I look forward to playing along again next year!

Early on, when I was on pace for 100, I was able to watch them at work because I wasn't busy (Fiscal year ended September-so the year end rush was over) and it was no big deal to pause when I got a call in and I did my job. Last couple weeks started picking up again, so I wasn't able to watch nearly as much, if at all.

I beat my original goal of 50 and got 67. I thought I had a real shot at 100 there for a bit. Plus, I do a Horror Marathon every October and put so much energy into compiling trailers and short films for between show filler (about an hour between each movie) that afterwards was a bit anticlimactic, so I watched fewer. Next year is another goal to beat 100.

I'm happy I reached DRG's Horror Yahtzee Challenge, though.

Yeah, thanks to Chad for a fun idea. Hope he feels our rules tweak suggestions are just to make it more fun and more challenging next year.

I did worse this year. Work was one reason, but there was just too many non-horror movies that took up my time.

It helps that a lot of horror movies are short. The old universal movies (like Frankenstein) are only around an hour, and even a lot of recent ones are only 80-90 minutes.

I agree...I'm pretty sure that the longest movie I watched was still well under two hours. That helps a ton.

Ok, we've been through this a few times. I even broke down the hours from somebody's post last year to verify the possibility of working and getting a nearly full-night's sleep and still getting the movies in. It is plenty possible.

Lets see just how many can be gotten in a working day:

Work - 9hours including commute
Sleep - 8 hours including time to get ready for work in the morning
Eating - 2 hours including prep time
24-9-8-2 = 5 hours
3 90 minute movies = 4.5 hours

Thats 93 movies in the month. Not making special exceptions for any extra weekend times. And I think those were pretty reasonable accounts for how much time is needed for different parts of the day.

Now, I failed miserably. Probably didn't make it to 30. Far too much work/school/obligations. But it was a fun challenge for the week or so I actually seriously pursued it.

We watched TCM's horror all weekend and into the holiday plus worked in several horror DVD classics as well! I hope everyone had a spooky, frightfully-fun-filled evening also! Happy Halloween !!!

with love from the film-scare gal,

I only got to 25 but I enjoyed most of them. Like others have said, I found quite a few good movies I hadn't seen before.

Of the movies I watched during the contest:

Biggest Suprise (positive)
Revenge of the Creature (1955)

Biggest Disappointment
Teen Wolf (I remembered it being a lot better)

Worst Movie
Children of the Corn

Best Movie
tie
Halloween
Dracula (1931)

Biggest Suprise (positive)
Nightmare City
- not zombies per se, but for a movie that has infected maraudering radioactive crazy people slashing, hacking and causing chaos, this was a blast.

Biggest Disappointment
Re-Cycle
- after the Pang Brothers successful 'The Eye', their latest film does a complete 360, and is truly an awful film. Visually stunning, but utterly dumb, (think 'Neverending Story' with zombies) that is neither scary or ellicts anything but a big groan. The 'pro-life' stance the film takes is blatant and off putting.

Worst Movie
Halloween Night
- with one of the, if not lamest seriel killer ever committed to screen, the film is just an exercise in paint by numbers slasher filmmaking - and substandard at best. The sfx is unimaginative and the 'kills' become repetitive and tiresome. Turn down the volume when any character attempts 'dialogue' as largely it adds nothing to the film.

Best Movie
The Black Pit of Dr. M
- The film had alot going for it, a great story, simple but evocative cinematography a charismatic cast, that Gastón Santos as Dr. Eduardo Jimenez; sauve

Best DVD commentary
The Company of Wolves (Neil Jordan)
- Hadn't seen this film in ages, but Neil does a fantastic job retelling and insight into the film's production.

Biggest Surprise (positive)
The Devil's Nightmare (1971)
.....best succubus movie ever made. Not the Exorcist rip-off I was expecting.

Biggest Disappointment
The Big Alligator River (1979)
......retchid Jaws rip-off. I was seriously mislead by reviews that said this was good.

Worst Movie
The Monster Walks (1932)
......I like old dark house mysteries, but this one was just incredibly inept.

Best Movie
The Cabinet of Caligari (1962) (first time viewing)
......unfairly compared to the original, better known Caligari film. Instead, I found Robert Bloch's follow up script to Psycho a masterpiece of psychological horror in its own right. Glynis Johns will never be the innocent mum in Mary Poppins again!

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) (repeat viewing)
......gets better every year, even in 2-D.

That's making the broad assumption that ALL you do in a day is work, sleep, eat. (i.e. no phone calls, no visiting friends, no watching anything else, no shopping, etc...)

I guess it's possible. I'm certainly very jealous that there are so many people with so much free time!

I wholeheartedly agree. This started out being fun but trying to average 3+ movies a day turned out to be a rather daunting task. I did enjoy the experience and I guess a year from now I may want to give it another try. Hats off to all of the participants with 100+ viewings!

Biggest Surprise (positive)
Ginger Snaps
- I watched part of this on cable but I never watched my DVD. The opening credit sequence is awesome, a great modern werewolf movie.

Biggest Disappointment
Clive Barker's Lord of Illusions
- A rather cold movie, I really did not enjoy watching this one.

Worst Movie(s)
Species III
- Direct-to-video release and it shows, horribly.
The Killer Eye
- Even the T&A from Jacqueline Lovell (not much anyway) could not save this movie.

Best Movie(s)
Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter
- This is a great ride from start to finish, too bad the other movies never materialized.
The Vampire Lovers
- Gothic and sexy, a Hammer classic!
Evil Dead II
- "We just cut up our girlfriend with a chainsaw. Does that sound 'fine'?"

Those were the requirements you set forth. And I was VERY generous on how much I allotted to certain categories. Besides, its not that these people necessarily have more free time, but it is that they have chosen to allocate more of it to horror. You don't have to choose to visit friends, watch other shows, etc.

Me too. I had to be a bit compulsive to reach 100. I'm glad I did reach 100 though, next year I can watch from the sidelines.
