Will and Grace: Season 5...SYNDICATED EPISODE(s)

Just popped in ONE disc of it...and looked at the last episode. It's about 7 minutes shorter than the broadcast version. Not sure how many other are syndicated.

I'm too pissed for words.

Aren't most of the 1/2 hour sitcoms running about 21/22 minutes (without commercials)? So you're saying the episode was 14/15 minutes?

A lot of the episodes for season 5 were super-sized.

Unfortunately, they're this way in the UK as well. I haven't checked all the episodes yet. From what the boards tell me, Debbie Harry's entire cameo was cut.

What a load of crap! I know this is just about your favorite TV show, so I can understand why you'd really be pissed. I planned on grabbing this set, but now I'm not so sure I want to ....

Yeah. "loaded with extras!" MY ASS!!!!

I'm suuuuuuuuuuuuure they cut the Madonna episode as well (it was this season and super-sized).

May they rot in hell.

This isn't the first season they've done this with. So fucking annoying. I wish there were a way to get the attention of fans about these things. Will and Grace AIN'T an old TV show. There's no reason why syndicated masters should be used.

I posted about this in another thread, pissed doesn't even begin to describe how I feel! As far as Deborah Harry's scene being cut from the finale (which it was, I just watched it yesterday), they have the nerve to mention in the packaging that she appears in that episode! Someone has REALLY been dropping the ball on these releases, and I think it sucks. It's bad enough we only get about one season per year, and crappy extras at that, you'd think at the very least, they wouldn't stick us with the syndicated versions.

Oh, and I just checked a transcript of the Madonna episode, and you're right, we got stuck with the syndicated version of that one as well.

Well, I've just been skimming through transcripts of the other Season 5 episodes... and for whatever reason, it looks like the super-sized episodes are the only ones we got screwed on. Except "Boardroom and a Parked Place"; for some reason, we got the full version of that one. I noticed quite a few cuts in the Demi Moore and Macaulay Culkin episodes, the two-part finale, and as I mentioned in my last post, the Madonna episode. I *think* the other, non-super-sized episodes are unedited. I just wish they all were!

Is there an email address? We seriously need to get a letter-writing campaign going or SOMETHING.

This is ridiculous.

Glad I came across this thread...I'll save my money for now until Lionsgate issues some sort of statement....they continue their trend of one of the worst studios for dvd. Horrible news.

there is NO reason that these episodes should be edited and it really pisses me off (i've decided to not pick up season 5 for this reason). this is just as bad as when studios don't provide OAR on dvd.

if anyone gets an email address, let me know- i'll send them a few emails. doubt it will do any good.

This isn't the first time it's been done.

I think Seasons 2 and 3 both included syndicated versions. Season 1 and 4 may be the only ones they "got right."

I can certainly understand anyone not wanting to pick this up after what they did, but what sucks is, if sales drop too much, we might not get the other seasons at all. Seasons 7 and 8, I can live without, but Season 6 had some really great episodes I'm looking forward to having on DVD. As pissed as I am about this, and as much as I wish they'd get it right, I have to say, I'd rather have edited versions of a handful of episodes than nothing at all.

JMHO, YMMV

yeah i noticed that some episodes in the season 4 dvd ran longer than others- i guess i just assumed that's when they started their "Super size" episodes. i guess i was wrong and now i'm even more pissed!! What kind of people work for these companies and why can't they get it right!?!

Also, the fact that Deborah Harry is mentioned on the DVD packaging and does not even appear in the episode is a complete rip-off.

I know that for one of the other seasons (don't know if it's 2 or 3), they had a 1 hour episode that they split up for syndication and the DVD's have the 2 episodes (with stuff cut).

ALSO...there was a super-sized episode that was split up for syndication into TWO episodes with extra footage...and they used the fucking super-sized episode. The R2 version contains both episodes with all the extra scenes.

Lion's Gate SERIOUSLY screwed up with these releases. I want to go through all 5 seasons and make detailed notations on the cuts. I'm seriously sick of this shit.

It's one of TWO series that I buy and I'm completely fed up. You wouldn't buy a movie cut. You shouldn't have to buy a TV show.

They will list them similar to Season 3

I'm going to. I already emailed Gord to let him know.

i wish Bill Hunt or someone could get involved.

But, shockingly enough, I guess there are more Alf fans out there than Will and Grace.

Guys, I hate to break this to you, but the last four seasons before this one were cut too. Did none of you buy any of the other season? This is sort of common knowledge by now.

Seasons 1 and 4 were not. I have all 5. Do you have information to the contrary?

Yup, the one time when using the syndicated version would have been a GOOD thing. In the packaging for Season 3, they even refer to that episode as "Cheaters, Part 1", leaving one to wonder... where the hell is Part 2?!?

Maybe it's like that song from the 80's...The Look of Love. Was there ever a part 2?

You know, this is the first SD DVD (set) I've bought in months...and this is what I get.

Morons.
