the wicker man

hey guys i just won and auction on ebay the wicker man wooden box set i got it for 41$ new do u think i got a good deal?

Cameron 08-13-06 05:21 PM

not a bad deal, little over what list cost was when it was in print. I still see these new at tower/virgin megastore for 40 bucks...though that has been at least a few months back

with the remake coming (and a brand new disc coming out) these sets will either sell at an all time high...or lose value due to a new disc coming... I think its pretty safe compared to other anchor bay sets like repo man, and halloween 4-5

I don't believe the new disc will have the extended version on it, just the shorter theatrical cut.

I'd sell my "wicker box" if the upcoming one had the same content. I grew tired of collectible packaging some time back, and the only remaining two in my collection are Wicker Man and the original Matrix box set.

cool thanks alot i wasn't shear what the retail price was but i knew i liked the movie and the case looked sweet. i had seen a used one go for around 62$ so i thought i might had gotten a good deal

fender69 08-13-06 05:38 PM

I think I bought it from best buy a few years ago for around $20 but I'd be willing to pay $40 for it if I didn't already I have it.

Just make sure to check the Theatrical Cut DVD because I did have problems with mine. Anchor Bay was very good about getting me a replacement disc. Even if your not interested in that cut of the film there is a 30 feature on that disc that is very good.

i had seen the theatrical version but never the unedited version thats the reason i bought it and the cool case but i hear the theatrical cut sucks compared the the unedited

Except that the uncut version does not look that good where the extra footage was inserted from what I heard. There is also an Easter Egg that I remeber that went through what was cut-out pretty good. I was quite happy with the cheap one. Your price was pretty good as at Amazon they start around 75.00 and up from sellers.

Actually, The new DVD is gonna be a 3-disc set with the theatrical cut, uncut version, and a special features disk.

Hmph. Once again, Region 1 gets the short end of the stick: Wicker Man

The Reaper 08-13-06 08:27 PM

Damn, that UK edition looks good.

*breaks chair*

Subgeniusguy 08-13-06 10:54 PM

I'll have that. Couldn't Anchor Bay have given us a DiviMax edition though.

Josh-da-man 08-13-06 11:45 PM

Considering way Anchor Bay spits out re-releases and repackaged LE content, Wicker Man has seriously gotten the short end of the stick.

I'll be getting that 3-disc R2 set! Thanks for the heads-up!

Beware the 4% PAL speedup!

Even worse, beware a bad NTSC->PAL transfer on the Extended Edition! The DVD Times link says that the EE is going to run 99 minutes, which is exactly what the Anchor Bay EE runs. The previous R2 release (by Warner) was also 99 minutes and was a straight port of the Anchor Bay EE. The ghosting was horrible. Hopefully, Optimum will do something like keep it in NTSC (like Eureka sometimes does), but this is a possible shortcoming that prospective buyers of the R2 need to be aware of.
