I have one from each year starting at 1929-2007 except for the year 1943. I would love to hear some recommendations for me to get from that year. (I have tried getting all of the Academy Award Best Picture winners for each year and I do except for Wings, Cavalcade, Rebecca, & Tom Jones which are all OOP now. I have the Best Picture winner for 1943 in Casablanca - but it was released in 1942)

You already have at least three from 1943:

Shadow of a Doubt (in the Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection)
Son of Dracula (in the Dracula Legacy Collection)
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (in the Wolf Man Legacy Collection)

The Story of the Kelly Gang ( 1906 for completists )

THE STORY OF THE KELLY GANG is considered the first narrative feature film ever made. Filmed outside Melbourne when the Kelly legend was still fresh, it was believed lost for many years. The National Film & Sound Archive and the BFI have restored parts of the original 1906 film to create an amazing package, which includes two commentaries on the national and worldwide significance of the film, alongside soundtracks and a variety of viewing modes.

Back when I was into baseball cards, I was going to do this for them. I figured getting one poor condition common from even the oldest years was a doable (affordable) goal.

Might have to do this with comics or DVDs someday, totally out of card collecting.

Edit: Thanks for the DVDspot tip. I have 1949 to present covered, and more older than I thought. I think I'll try to fill in some gaps, haven't dipped into DDD's sale yet this year......

Anyone have an easy site/search for movies by year? I would like it at IMDB and DDD, but I'm not finding it at either.....

Edit: found it at IMDB

I've got 1927-2007 covered. A full eighty years of film.

I've got films from 1922 and 1925 as well, so I'm missing anything before 1921 then 23,24 and 26.

I'd have them all covered soon if the DDD sale didn't end early.

Once I get my gaps filled in, I was going to try something which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet. Watch one film/short from each year in chronological order from 1889 to 2007.

Call me a bumper, but I just went thru my old sets and found that I'm almost "complete".

I have something from every year 1893 thru 2007, with only three exceptions; 1914, 1915, and 1917.

I'll probably try to find a set that has something from all three of those years.

And then I'll try to watch one thing from every year in order.

My collection covers years 1931 thru 2007 with feature length films. My oldest feature length film is from 1927, Sunrise. Need some recommendations for early films.

I recently reorganized my collection by year and realize I have way too many new movies which I don't even enjoy as much. So, I'm trying to concentrate on filling the older years with some good stuff.

That being said I am still missing titles from:
1934, 1937, and I have nothing before 1930.

If I fill out my Capra or Hitchcock collection, I'll take care of the 30's, but what about before that? I need some recommendations I guess...

I have 6 movies from the 1960s: The Clint Eastwood "Man with No Name" trilogy, the original Planet of the Apes, Psycho, and Night of the Living Dead.

I have roughly 40 movies from the 1970s.

The rest of my 400+ DVD collection is from the 1980s-2000s.

I never have been able to get into movies older than the 1960s. I don't know if it was because it was before my time, but they all just seem so "bad" to me, and really the 6 movies from the 60s that I listed are the only ones from that period I can tolerate.

I think I have everything from 1927-2007 except for 1928-30 and 1935. Suggestions?

Peyton Place would be a great one for you to add to fill the 1957 gap.

A lot of what I have is on tape and was never even released on VHS or DVD, I have everything from the silent era down covered. French films cover me from 1960-79, I have to check the 1980's I think there may be a year missing. I have just started replacing all my old stuff with the DVDs as they are released. It is hard to keep track because most of the old stuff is not on DVD and probably never will even be available.

From my collection:

The Farmer's Wife - 1928
Blackmail - 1929
The Manxman - 1929
Juno and the Paycock - 1930
Murder! - 1930

(all Hitchcock titles )

The 39 Steps (Hitchcock again) - 1935
G Men (Part of the WB Tough Guys Collection) - 1935

Obviously, old Hitchcock titles really helped me fill out the earlier years of my collection which also goes from 1927-2007, but with no gaps.
