The Green Mile SE: November 14th

Warner Home Video has announced a brand new two-disc special edition of The Green Mile which stars Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, and David Morse. The disc will be available to own from the 14th November, and should retail at around $20.97. The film itself will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with both English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. Extras will include an audio commentary by director Frank Darabont, additional scenes, a Walking the Mile: Making of The Green Mile documentary, a six-part documentary gallery (Stephen King: Storyteller, The Art of Adaptation, Acting on the Mile, Designing the Mile, The Magic of the Mile, The Tail of Mr Jingles), some Tom Hanks makeup tests, a Michael Clarke Duncan screet test, and The Teaser Trailer: A Case Study.

I love the DVD artwork and the extras. I always thought that Green Mile was one of the better adaptations of Stephen King's work to film.

This will go nicely with the re-release of Shawshank. I like how the artwork is similar.

Very nice, but I'll wait for an HD-DVD release (hopefully it will be on the same day as the DVD).

Thanks for confirmation. I had artwork of this last week, but I didn't post it since I didn't know what the release date was.
Not sure if I'll double dip on this or wait for HD. Times are tough

I'd also like to see it on HD-DVD, but can they fit a 3-hour movie and all those extras on one disc? Not to mention that $20.97 list price is awfully tempting.

2-disc SE's on HD-DVD could be coming soon, so this could be basically the same kind of release. I don't think it will happen right away though. A lot will probably depend on the success of the HD formats.

Probably. There are already a couple of HD-DVDs that are in that ballpark in terms of film length and extras (Goodfellas, Cinderella Man). Both of those films are about 40 mins shorter than GM, but I imagine that (depending on the length of the extras) they could work everything out.

And, that being said, there's also no reason to believe that we won't be seeing 2-disc sets on HD-DVD in the future.

Drew Struzan must have done this one as well. Strange that they commissioned new artwork for it.

Now I know why I didn't blind-buy the original release. I'll definitely buy this. I'm actually ashamed to admit that I've yet to see this film.

Worse for me, I own it and have never watched it, ever. I got it at Gamestop in the snapper case in a 3 for $6 deal. I am sure it's a great film, I will have to give it a spin one of these days.
