Fast Times at Ridgemont High - Worth Buying New Edition??
Hey there - I just picked up the new Special Edition for $5 at Tower. I already have the Collector's Edition. Is the only diff. betweeen the two the 5.1 stereo track? Does the new edition have all the same special features as the previous release? Is the new edition worth $5 to replace the older one? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks. Glen / [email protected]

Other than the replacement of the mono track from the CE with a 5.1 track for the SE, the two editions are identical, though the latter SE has somewhat better video quality from improvements made in compression technology since the CE was released.

I actually agree with Guru on the soundtrack issue. Just because a film has music in it does not make a stereo from mono version 'superior'. Rocky Horror was originally a mono film and sounds better in mono than 5.1. Also ask people what they think of the 5.1 mix on A Hard Day's Night(an originally mono film) how they feel about the remix.
So studios should always included the original mix no matter what. Unfortunately I suspect the HD release will contain the 5.1 mix only. Since so far all mono films released on HD dvd have been 5.1 only.

I thought the new version of Fast Times was in DTS, too.
I'm just gonna hold off till Universal does a better edition or, hope hope, Criterion pulls a Dazed and Confused on it.

awesome movie, I got this DVD for 3 dollars the other day. I finally saw the whole thing after seeing parts of it my whole life. It's amazing how this film has influenced almost every single high school comedy film since.

Crap, I didn't realize this was a resurrected thread. I thought maybe an uncut/extended version had been released.

Glad you enjoyed the movie and not to be harsh, but I thought it was only newbies that resurrected three year old threads with banal "I liked this movie" comments.
