I am a kong nut and I am probably the only one that really loves the figure. The face is quite detailed and it's quite solid and heavy. Could there have been more? SURE lol....but I am happy with the purchase.

Your welcome. I dont think it was OOP. The best offer I got it was with the 20% DDD sale rounding around $40 only. Seems most stores carry it at a $60++ tagprice.

According to the DVDTalk thread on OOP titles, it was considered OOP before it was officially released, so if you don't grab one now, you'll definintely be screwed. The emphasis with this Limited Edition set appears to be on Limited.

No. The HD DVD contains the theatrical cut only. I'm sure we'll see the Extended cut down the line with all the features from the previous dvd releases.

Figured I'd bump this thread rather than start a new one.

Is there any reason to keep the theatrical 2-disk DVD if I also have the extended?

I never watched the bonus stuff of the 2-disk, and since its only 13 minutes shorter, its not that different of a movie.

I keep both because the extras are different and the extended version isn't necessarily the better of the two cuts.

This thread is for the 11/24/06 release. There isn't a new edition coming out.

FYI... FIVE BELOW has the "King Kong - Extended Cut (Three-Disc Deluxe Edition)" in their stores for $5.00. Picked one up a few weeks ago.

OK, let's try this a different way now that I also have the Blu-ray which has both cuts:

Which DVD release has the better, more inclusive bonus features that cover everything about the making of the film? I've watched them all on both releases, and believe it was the 3-disk, but want to be sure. I'd like to get rid of one of them.

Re: King Kong: Deluxe Extended Edition 11/14

The 2 disc has about 3 hours of production/post production diaries that were originally released online, so there is still alot of solid stuff, but as soon as it gets interesting, the diary ends, but its alot of it. I don't own the 3 disc version, but i assume it would have more compresensive featurettes that go into more details on the making of the movie

I have the Production Diaries, The 2-disc set and the Extended Cut set. I think I'm covered.

It should be noted that the 2-disc SE has exclusively post--production diaries, while the item linked to is of the production diaries. There's no overlap in content between the two, and in order to get all of the diaries that were released online, you need both the production diaries set, and the 2-disc SE.

I actually viewed the diaries as they were released online, following the production, and found them extremely entertaining and informative. Since they were originally released before the film was, there's not a lot of detail about the film itself, in terms of plot, shots of King Kong, etc. Instead, it serves as almost a generalized primer on film production. There's segments that go into detail on various aspects of production that you don't normally see. For example, there's a diary about the journey a roll of film takes from camera to post production, following all the steps it takes.

Ditto, plus the BD. I never thought I'd have so many discs for this film.

Re: King Kong: Deluxe Extended Edition 11/14

This thread reminded me I have been wanting to re-watch this, I just bought the 3 Disc edition, and the 1933 and 1976 versions.
