United 93 - release date 9/5/06

I was browsing Universal's site and they have added United 93 to their September release list. Date is 9/5/06

What's interesting is the list price they show is $19.98. Since this is added to the website, I'm sure an official announcement with features will follow.

Just saw this one at the local dollar theater, and don't know if I'd want to watch it over and over, but will probably rent it for the Greengrass commentary. He's a hell of a filmmaker. Check out Bloody Sunday if you don't believe me.

cheers,

Looks like the trailer is missing...I was kinda hoping to have it on the disc.

Personally, this is one of the very rare instances where I really don't care that they left off the trailer. I remember thinking that the trailer was somewhat cheesy and that it felt just like every other exploitative action-thriller teaser trailer, even though I know others felt it was quite effective. To each their own, I guess. I feel that when dealing with such a delicate subject as this obviously is, exploitation is a big no-no. The film itself, however, surprised the heck out of me in how it handled the material in such a non-exploitative fashion - very basic, raw, and straightforward in its approach. Quite an incredible film actually - powerful and emotional - so far, the best film I've seen this year.

On the other side of the spectrum, the trailer for Oliver Stone's WORLD TRADE CENTER looks absolutely horrendous in that over-sappy, over-stylized Hollywood way. Maybe that trailer is just as deceiving, although I highly doubt it based on all those 'emotional' slo-mo shots in it, as well as the film's rumored overall positive/heroic depiction of the events and its aftermath. Still, there's always a slight chance it will be good, but then again, Nicolas Cage is in it.

I didn't see this in theaters, but it's still playing at my local $1 theater. I'm interested in the commentary from Greengrass.

Great piece of filmmaking that proves just how powerful a medium movies can be. I know some people are reluctant to watch a movie that's "depressing," but I hope they give it a chance because it is also uplifting and inspiring in a way, too. I guarantee you'll be riveted for its entire running time.

I can't wait. United 93 was an amazing piece of cinema. It may have been a bit soon, but it needed to be told.

Damn. This movie has still haunted me. I'd actually consider it if they did an HD DVD.

Especially if they pull a Jarhead and put the stuff in the 2-disc version into one HD-DVD!

Didn't see it, but definitely going to be a blind buy. And definitely going for the 2-disc. Sounds like an amazing piece of filmmaking. Looking forward to it.

Hopefully they don't pull a Munich and actually release the two disc version in Canada...
