Rocketman DVD

I had no idea that this was even available. I saw it on TV the other day and remembered how funny it was (yes I know it's very childish, but everyone has to have a little kid in them haha), so I tried to see if they ever announced a release date, and I saw that they are selling on eBay for like $40 because it's a Disney Movie Club exclusive (I had no idea they have exclusive movies). I tried searching for it on the club website and had no luck. Anyone have any idea where I could find it for a reasonable price besides eBay?

dx23 06-23-06 10:52 PM

The Disney Movie Club. disney.videos.go.com

If you don't want to join, just ask somebody that has a membership and tell him to buy it for you.

dvdman47 06-23-06 10:55 PM

I searched on the website and couldn't find it. Unless, is it a DVD that you can only get if you already have a membership and isn't part of the enrollment DVD selection? If so, is there anyone that has a membership to the club that would be willing to purchase it for me? How much does it cost?

Thank you very much!

Cydney 06-23-06 11:12 PM

You have to be a member of the club to be able to buy the movie which costs $19.99.

Brett 06-23-06 11:23 PM

Anyone know if the DVD in Widescreen of Full Frame?
It looks like most e-tailers are reporting the Region 2 release as full frame, so unfortunately the US release prob is as well. :(

RoadToPerdition 06-23-06 11:53 PM

This doesn't really answer your question, but Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken was also a DMC exclusive that was released to general retailers a few months ago. The same will probably happen with Rocketman, if you can hold off for a while.

dvdman47 06-24-06 01:13 AM

How long did it take for the widespread release?

Jray 06-24-06 07:59 AM

Oh man! I've been waiting for this one forever! I had no idea an exclusive Disney club existed that has "secret" DVDs. I'll have to do some digging on this one. I hope it's widescreen too. I already have the fullscreen VHS.

I even filled out some form on Disney's website a few years ago requesting this one.

edit: Ehhh... looks like the Region 1 version is also fullscreen, according to the various auctions on Ebay. :(

I think it was around 4-6 months.

To tell you the truth, I don't even think I care that it's only available on foolscreen. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm a huge widescreen advocate. I'm just happy that it's on DVD at all and that I can throw out my old VHS haha. Maybe one day in a perfect world, we can get that 2 disc criterion of Rocketman that comes in a box set with Goodburger entitled, "The Ultimate Classics."

Is there anybody out there that has a Disney Movie Club membership??

If nobody is reading this that does, is there anybody that knows where I can go about finding someone? Is there a different forum that has things like that?

dvdman47 06-24-06 02:05 PM

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Peep 06-25-06 12:16 AM

The Disney Movie Club is the only place where you can buy "Song Of The South" on DVD.

dvdman47 06-25-06 12:46 AM

Are you serious?? I thought that it was never going to be released again.

Drexl 06-25-06 03:43 AM

Was this one of the titles only available on Divx back in the day? If so, it may explain why it's fullscreen only, because many of the Divx titles were.

the action 06-25-06 10:57 PM

This is such a funny movie...I saw it was $40 on Ebay, figured I'd just stick with my VHS copy for now....Screw you disney, release the dvd!

purplechoe 06-26-06 07:02 PM

A few days ago I was actually looking for this dvd and saw it in Amazons marketplace with a hefty price tag. Did some digging around and found the info about it being only available through the Disney Club. I'm glad there are other fans of this movie out there. Hopefully they'll release it to other major retailers soon.

Y2J850 06-26-06 07:13 PM

I have also been looking for this movie on dvd, but I don't know if its worth that kinda price since I havent seen that since I was like 10 or 11. Also another disney movie I remember watching around that same time with very similar corney humor that I enjoyed when I was younger was 'meet the deedles'-Paul walker was in this I think. But I dont see that on dvd anywhere either.

hapgilmore 07-13-06 11:48 AM

This needs to be released to the GENERAL PUBLIC asap!...and in WIDESCREEN!

Brett 07-13-06 11:54 AM

From my research, unfortunately it looks like the only Widescreen release of this is the French R2 disc.

"Now in French.... Chanel Number 5"

Bah. It always boggles my mind how other countries get better releases of American movies. Just doesn't seem like there's enough demand for this one. With my luck, they'll release this in widescreen on DVD the day after I buy an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player.

Xbox69 07-13-06 04:52 PM

Anyone still want this from Disney? I'm in the club and it's still $19.95. PM me.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm gonna try and get my hands on the French R2 release since I believe its Widescreen. For anyone who's interested, it'd be about $22 shipped from Amazon.fr. Trying to find a cheaper place and confirm it is indeed WS since Amazon doesn't list any specs.

This site claims the UK and German release are WS, but I didn't think the UK release was.

UPDATE UK Release is FULL FRAME:

hiccup 07-13-06 05:02 PM

I wouldn't mind seeing this film again. I don't even have a VHS copy of it and haven't seen it on TV in years. I would also like to finally see Song of the South. Jeez, I hadn't known that one had even a small release. They should just let these go to mass retailers and that's it.

You're kidding, right? :hscratch:

Back to "Rocketman", they are currently having a 20% OFF sale when I buy 2 selections priced at $19.95 and up. I would still pay shipping. $3.95 for the 1st movie and $1 each additional. Anyways -- 2 copies of "Rocketman" shipped to me for just under $37.

maxamillion 07-18-06 11:20 PM

Have it

I have this DVD. And it is in Widescreen only. Maybe it's a Canadian thing??? I'm from Canada obviously.

It is the official R1 Canadian release?
Where did you purchase it from?
Could you post the UPC code?

Any chance something on my trade list interests you for it?

RickWJ324 07-19-06 12:02 PM

A few things:

1) Song of the South is NOT available through the Disney Club or anywhere else (legally). I wish it was.

2) There is no legal R1 Widescreen release of Rocketman (US or Canada). There is a widescreen European dvd (released in the UK, Germany, and I believe Australia). It is 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen, DD 5.1 (English, German, Italian); Subtitles: English, German & Italian.
The Disney Club version is FULLSCREEN and is the ONLY Region 1 release.

3) I don't mind helping out those that are looking for copies of Rocketman from the Disney Club. I did however just order 2 of them for others online as a favor. I'm not sure if Disney will limit how many someone can purchase. So, if you are interested in one, the price is 19.99 ($23.90 with shipping). Then an additional $2.50 for me to ship it to you. I may help 1 or two others out, but I don't want to throw up a red flag with the Disney Club by ordering too many.

EDIT: Here's a few other movies that are DISNEY CLUB EXCLUSIVES:
The Wonderful World Of Disney: A Tiger Walks
The Wonderful World Of Disney: The Bluegrass Special
The Wonderful World of Disney: Yellowstone Cubs
The Horse Without A Head
Jumping Ship
Smart House
DuckTales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp
Rocketman
Mail To The Chief
Tall Tale: The Unbelievable Adventure (Patrick Swayze)
Geppetto (Drew Carey)

@Brett

The Rocketeer DVD I have was in a used DVD's for sale bin but I don't remember which of the major rental chains I got it from??? It's Canadian because the languages are in English and French only. It's in its original theatrical aspect ratio (2.35.1) and there is a number "1" in a small square which I assume means Region 1.

That explains it...we are not talking about the Rocketeer, we are talking about Rocketman.

RocketMan is the DVD we're discussing, not The Rocketeer. RocketMan is a comedy with Harland Willams.

Edit: Brett mentioned it above.

hapgilmore 07-21-06 09:47 AM

Disney needs to get off their ass and release this already, come on!

Cameron 08-13-06 04:16 PM

i don't see this in the enrollment titles...although every other exclusive is?

OwlAtHome 04-16-07 01:43 PM

Coming out tomorrow on DVD and still in fullscreen: http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewprod...&extid=df00021

DD may be wrong, other info suggests 4/24 is the release date.

The Monkees 04-17-07 12:15 AM

Ducktales The Movie is Disney Movie Club exclusive too. I've been waiting for it to go main stream, but it hasn't. I might be joining just to get that.

How exactly does it work? Does it work like Columbia House?
