The Wicker Man Re-release 8/22/06

http://horrormovies.ca/horror_6039.html

With the upcoming remake of Wicker Man, Anchor Bay will be rereleasing this genre classic on August 22nd for a suggested retail price of $14.98. This release will be the North American theatrical cut and not the Directors Cut of the film which runs much longer.

The DVD will contain interviews with stars Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee and Ingrid Pitt, Director Robin Hardy, Producer Peter Snell, Writer Anthony Shaffer, Editor Eric-Boyd Perkins, Art Director Seamus Flannery, Assistant Director Jake Wright, U.S. Distributor John Simon and legendary filmmaker Roger Corman, the theatrical trailer, TV and radio spots and talent bios. You can check out the box art below.

They obviously want to cash in on the remake as much as possible...not even the director's cut version.

I'm not a fan of the original as it is, but that cover art is nice.

I'm a big fan of this film, but not the North American "cut". This is one of those movies where the full/Director's cut is much better, the cut scenes really make a difference.
The limited edition wooden boxes from Anchor Bay (with the Director's cut) were still floating around Best Buy in NH and MA around 6 months ago-- that's the only way to go for this film.

I didn't even realize they were remaking this...interesting. I have the old AB release...thought the movie was interesting, I need to rewatch it.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of those wooden box limited editions if I saw one.

I would also be very interested in one of those wooden boxsets of the original as well.

Hearing they were remaking it saddened me as it is one of my favorite "horror" movies. It is so moody and rich with mythology and the like. Plus the music - one of the best soundtracks i own.

Tonight i scoped out the trailer for the remake and it looks absolutely terrible. Are they implying that the inspector (Cage) is the father of Rowan? The goofy bee beard? The bird flying out of the desk instead of the simple beetle on a string for old hedge magic. Blah.

I really wish that old rumor of a Divimax edition of the director's cut would have been true.

I suppose you would need a region free player that can deal with PAL to make that one worthwhile?

The new disc will be the US theatrical version only.

Maybe they will rerelease the directors cut version down the road.

Last time I checked, mine still played. I have the uber-rare The Wicker Man: The Playable Edition!

From what I can tell, this DVD isn't "new" just a re-packaging, so this thread's title is a bit misleading. Additionally, the absence of the director's cut on this edition is disappointing, but I've actually heard the theatrical cut is much tighter. Of course, if there's more Britt Eckland nudity in the director's cut...

The orignal Wicker Man theatrical cut had a EE hidden on it. Maybe that is whats new to this version?
