Was wondering if anyone had a list of all DVD's that came from Comic Books?

I'm updating my list, I am of course only collecting the newer ones.

I have so far:
Hellboy
Spidey 1:2

Daredevil
Batman Begins

Mystery Men (Heard this was, so I'm not sure)

The Road to Perdition (Not Sure)

I don't have, but getting soon: Catwoman, Ultraviolet

don't get catwoman even if your collecting comic book movies, it's so terrible.


Two really good comic book movies you should look into though are constantine and sin city.

I'm gonna have to reccommend you get Sin City instead of Catwoman...Please!

Bulletproof Monk (it's based on chinese comic)
The Road to Perdition (based on graphic novel)
about, Mystery Men (i don't think it's based on something, maybe superhero
inspired/spoof film). is Underworld a comic book? didn't hear. i think not.
ultraviolet is not a comic and riddick is not a comic.
and heavy metal films are based on magazine illustration stories,
so basically it's not a comic book.

Clarification of some, and a couple new ones:

I'd classify Heavy Metal as a comic considering it is printed sequential comics but in a magazine format.
Bulletproof Monk (AMERICAN comic book by Michael Avon Oeming, better than the movie)
Mystery Men is based on some small characters from 'Flaming Carrot' so yeah, it's based on a comic.
Road To Perdition is of course based on the famous Graphic Novel.
Blueberry, western, not sure if this is out in America but based on the french comic.
Ghost World, based on the comic.
American Splendor, if you've seen this then it's obviously based on a comic.

I have alot more but not an actual list.

Why only the newer ones?

The older ones might be cheesy, but no moreso than crap-fests like Catwoman, Electra, Hulk and LXG.

The Newer Ones? Well, because the Special Effects are more realistic looking these days, compared to say the Superman Series with Christopher Reeves. I know, I know, I shouldn't be that way, but I am. Yes, some are still Cheesy, but they look better. I guess you can say I have screwed up taste, but I do like the newer ones than the old. Like Batman Begins compared to the old ones, the newer one to me is darker like it should be, and well basically just blows the old ones away.

How can you possible say that Batman Begins was better than Batman and Robin? I mean, anatomically correct rubber suits, come on.

That's based on a toy line, not a comic book. Sure, there were "He-Man" comic books but that certainly doesn't mean that it's BASED on a comic book, and if you were to consider it one you'd open up a whole can of worms where anything that was ever published in comic-book form would be eligible.

They were based on comic books (manga).

On the subject of cheesiness in comic book movies, am I the only one who still thinks a couple of the fights scenes in Spider-man look a little cheesy? I'm talking about the one on one fights between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin, where they are physically fighting each other. I think it's the fact that it's two guys in suits fighting, I dunno.

Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja.

Conan is based on the novels and stories of Robert E. Howard, as were the various comic book adaptations.

If Conan counts, then any movie based on a book that was first adapted as a Classics Illustrated comic would also have to count.

You could argue that Red Sonja is indeed based on a comic, since the Howard Sonja character was not really the same, and the movie was very intentionally based on the Roy Thomas comics character.

Yes, i know all that. I didn't realize we were being that technical. Either way both characters were in comic books series and movies, so i figured the OP might be interested in them.

Red Sonja is the comic character, Sonya is the Howard character, and Sonja is based on Sonya. There's actually a lawsuit about this going on now. It's confusing.

But it's no fun if you can't be technical and pedantic!

The crews of the Enterprises
The characters of Battlestar Galactica and Firefly
Huey, Dewey, Louie, Scrooge, Donald...
The Old Man (and the Sea) (the series was "Classics Illustrated")
The Grateful Dead (the rock band)
Joe Mandela (and the other characters from Haldeman's "Forever War")
etc. etc. etc.

There are a lot of movies with what one might call a "comic book sensibility," some of which have so much of it that they become decent comic books. And other source material also qualifies -- how different are the Lara Croft or Doom or Aeon Flux movies from comic book movies, really?

The OP seemed to be clearly trying to limit his list to live-action features based on comics or graphic novels. But I agree with you that there are a ton of other movies that such a collector would also be interested in.

Vampirella
Kull the Conqueror
and technically Aliens Vs. Predator - yes both characters were characters that were adapted to comics from the movies - but combining them was an idea that happened in comics first
