The Target ads only shows the Pink Lady jacket (looks satin-like). I wonder if they're going to have both?

matome 09-18-06 08:57 AM

I'll pick this up just to get rid of that suck-ass slim case of the original disc.

wahlers 09-19-06 02:30 PM

Can anybody confirm if there is any fixing or improvement on the blurred Coke signs in the diner sequence?

The Valeyard 09-19-06 02:41 PM

Target does have both the Pink Lady and the T-Bird jackets on hand.

Just to let anyone who doesn't venture into the Bargin Forum know - K-Mart has Grease: RRE for $6.99!

You can thank Wildo1966 for the intel.

Still blurred, according to the review at http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=242236

Excerpt:
To answer a few questions other HTF members have been asking about this new release: it does not have the original Paramount logo; the audio mix seems to be the same one from the previous release; the Coke signs behind Newton John and Lorenzo Llamas are still blurred, but Director Randall Kleiser notes in the commentary this is how it was in the theatrical release. If you look closely to the blurring, you can see the optical blurring in the print around the actor’s heads, so I tend to believe what the director says and not our alleged memories of the theatrical presentation.

Paramount sure is getting cheap on DVD artwork. Just like Beavis And Butt-Head last week, Grease has black text on a blank DVD. Still, if that's part of the reason why these were $12.99, I guess it's an acceptable loss.

Wick 09-19-06 06:41 PM

I picked it up today, but I've yet to watch it. I will do my best to watch it this weekend.

They are just being cheap, bottom line. Finger print city awaits the top of the dvd I own with the B&B: DA, I was praying for a picture disk. They could have easily done picture disks with these releases and some have a right to feel slightly cheated by the absence of them.

Picked it up today. The leather jacket "slipcover" is pretty cool. Now I'm waiting for the first posts saying "Anyone else's zipper not work?" :D

Did a quick comparison and the picture is noticeably better. First thing I wanted to check out was the end of "Summer Nights" when they had both Sandy and Danny on screen at the same time. The old DVD had some funky stuff happening around their images. This scene is now clean and looks great.

I'm still unsure about the audio. The talking part of the audio sounds the same (fairly flat) but the music seems to be a little different. I'll have to do more comparisons later ... maybe my ears are hearing things.... but I think this new release sounds a tad better.

wahlers,

It was blurred in the theatrical release as well. If you look closely, you'll notice it's an ad for Coca-Cola. One can only assume this was a product placement gone awry~

Giles 09-19-06 09:56 PM

yet in one of the deleted sequences the blurred picture is actually unblurred, but still is pretty far not be recognized as a Coke ad.

Yeah, I hopped on into my local K-mart and there it was marked $14.99 and I had it scanned at the register and it came up for $6.99. At that price, with the cool leather jacket slipcover, I had to pull the trigger on it. Why is it so fairly priced at K-mart?

It doesn't work at all of them. Didn't work at mine :(

bookcase3 09-20-06 10:01 AM

Does anyone have a larger photo of the Pink Ladies slipcover? I saw the tiny one in the Target circular, but would like to see a larger version before deciding which to buy. Thanks.

darmok 09-20-06 11:29 AM

don't have a pic, but the pink lady looks like thin satin/polyester fabric. not as sturdy or thick as the leather jacket slip.

Yeah, I don't have a pic either, but I own both... the pink jacket is much thinner and the Grease logo is not of the same quality. It's a nice touch to have the dueling jackets (the pink one will house Grease 2 for me ;) ), but if you're chosing between the two, you're probably going to want to go with the black leather. It's definitely higher quality.

If yer lookin' to unload that extra copy of Grease... ;)

Kechulater 09-20-06 02:43 PM

I got it for $6.99 at K-Mart's Saugus, MA store. All the new releases are under lock and key at this store so I had to ask somebody to get me my copy. I told the nice woman that I would buy the DVD if it sold for 6.99, it was listed at $14.99. She told me it was 14.99 as listed. I mentioned that I read on the internet it was $6.99. She said don't believe everything you see on the internet. She scanned the DVD, it was $6.99 :) Thanks!

lethalkrs 09-20-06 02:50 PM

I put mine in last night and the "Sing Along" section freezes up on most of the tracks. Will be exchanging tonight, hopefully not a problem on all of them.
Anybody else try this yet?

k mart was sold out

PacMan2006 09-20-06 03:12 PM

I'm confused here...so the Grease dvd @ K-Mart is definitely $6.99? Is this for just a limited amount of days or something?

metalfan 09-20-06 04:26 PM

Just got one for $6.99. Thanks OP!
