X-Men 3 - Arad Confirms Extended Edition DVD

Finally, he confirmed that whilst they didn't cut anything from the film for time, they did have "things that we did specifically for the DVD" and said "Absolutely" to the chances of an extended edition DVD...

Perhaps we will have the scene of where Magneto & co. drop the bridge onto Alcatraz around Dusk, hang around and have tea for an hour or two, then fight when it's dark.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

As I said in the X3 thread, I NEVER notice stuff like that and it stuck out like a sore thumb to me. Pointless.

I heard of a scene in where its Juggernaut vs. Colossus, Angel fighting towards the end of the movie, a Gambit cameo (even though I swear they never filmed it), and more fights in Jean Grey's house; all-inall nothing that will make the movie better, I think.

Do we even need "confirmations" of these anymore? I think it's a given that any type of PG13 kids action flick or horror movie these days will ALWAYS come out on DVD in an EXTREME UNRATED edition. I think it's pretty much part of the marketing at this point.

This part annoyed the hell out of me. I'm sure Ratner will make some joke about it in the commentaries just like he made a joke out of this film. X3 is the Batman and Robin of the franchise, but with the money it's making I'm sure we'll see one just as bad later.

I wouldn't go that far as B&R was an all around terrible movie. Over the top set design, terrible acting and horrific writing. I'd say a better comparison would be Batman Forever (both the third in their franchises with a new director).

I'd be worried if they fast tracked X4 for a 2008 release, THEN you might see a Batman & Robin type of situation (B&R came 2 years after BF, whereas the other sequels came 3-years after each other: Batman 1989, Returns 1992, Forever 1995, B&R 1997; X1 2000, X2 2003, X3 2006, X4 2008(?)).

Anyways, keeping this post on topic, while I enjoyed X3 overall, it paled in comparison to X2. I doubt an extended edition can make it much better. However, I'll probably pick it up as Fox usually provides some great special features with their dvds.

I look forward to this DVD. The movie was great, and I'd love to see extended scenes.

from a thread @ originaltrilogy.com posted by "crazyrabbits", just cut and pasted. interesting!

...compiled a list of every scene I read about that was either:

a) used in the trailer, but not in the final film
b) shown in magazine articles, but not used in the final film
c) shown at the pre-release screenings, but were cut out of the final print
d) shown only in certain areas of the world

There have been reports of different "secret scenes" being played after the final credits roll. According to reports, the Xavier scene was sent to all theatres in North America, and the scene was supposed to be on the international prints as well, but apparently other cuts were sent out with different scenes before the final prints were locked. These codas include:

-Moira McTaggert walking into a hospital room to check on a patient (the same subject being talked about at the beginning of the film who had no consciousness) who says to her, "Hello Moira" in Charles' voice (most widely seen ending)
-A shot of an empty corridor in the X-Mansion, but suddenly the walls start shaking, and the scene moves outside to Jean's grave, which has a giant hole in front of the tombstone (reported to be shown at theatres in France)
-A scene with the human Mystique walking up to Magneto and giving him a wallet (not sure if this is confirmed)
-a scene at Alkali Lake, where the water suddenly turns red and a beam shoots out from under the water (reported from theatres in France)
-a scene in a hospital where two doctors are looking at an unconscious Cyclops, and they say he has brain damage, then his eyes open and the screen goes red (supposedly seen during a pre-release screening)
-a shot of Pyro walking into Xavier's school (reported at theatres in Hong Kong)

Also, there was a bunch of stuff deleted from the film. In addition to this, reports at SuperHeroHype.com, RottenTomatoes.com and here, there are many differences between the pre-release version screened and the final print. These things include:

-(from trailer) the speech where Xavier talked about angels and demons, in reference to the mutant war
-(from trailer) a shot of the Sentinel's leg crushing a car
-(from aired footage on The Tonight Show) Wolverine hollering when Colossus throws him towards the Sentinel
-(from pre-release screening) noises of the Sentinel's body crashing into the ground, as well as Wolverine hitting the ground
-(from trailer) Leech being put into a cat-scan machine
-(from pre-release screening) different dialogue during the mansion sequence with Storm, Hank and Wolverine
-(from trailer) Bolivar Trask saying to the President, "You are talking about declaring a war on U.S. soil."
-(from pre-release screening) Magneto saying in the church sequence, "Who will you stand with when this massacre is upon us?"
-(from trailer) Magneto throwing a police escort vehicle into the semi holding Mystique
-(from trailer) Scott screaming at the sky during the Alkali Lake sequence
-(from publicity photos) Angel standing by a window before his father tries to inject him with Cure
-(from magazine photos) a diagram being shown that details how Cure is injected into the body (may be a storyboard)
-(from pre-release screening) Logan telling Xavier that he was only able to find Scott's glasses at Alkali Lake
-(from trailer) Logan saying to Jean, "We can make it like it was!" while she has tears streaming down her face
-(from trailer) Magneto screaming while down on the floor during the house sequence with Jean and Xavier
-(from magazine photos) a scene where Storm gives Kitty a hug after Xavier's death
-(from magazine photos) Colossus consoling a child after Xavier's death
-a scene with Rogue's mother (confirmed by the film's scriptwriters)
-(from trailer) alternate shots of Magneto walking along the bridge at sundown, and the Golden Gate Bridge falling at night-time
-(from trailer) Logan telling Bobby before the final battle, "You might not come back. She (Kitty) might not come back. Are you ready for that?" and Bobby saying, "We're not kids anymore."
-(from IGN.com) a scene where Pyro shoots a fireball directly into the camera during the final battle sequence
-(from pre-release screening) Colossus getting levitated over to Magneto, and then Colossus says something to the effect of, "Try it without the power of magnetism on your side," and de-armors himself, then he tries to hit Magneto, but gets rushed by other mutants, and when he armors up again, Magneto throws him away
-(from pre-release screening) at least TWO instances where Colossus and Juggernaut fight each other: one where Cain is going into the Alcatraz facility to kill Leech, and Colossus locks arms with him for a few seconds trying to stop him, before getting thrown into a vehicle, and then, later on when everyone is fleeing the island, Colossus throws Juggernaut towars Leech, which causes him to lose his powers, and when Cain runs towars Colossus again, he gets knocked out (the second incident is unconfirmed)
-(from trailer) at least one unused shot of Juggernaut running through a wall that didn't make it into the final cut
-Psylocke using her psychic blade (confirmed by the film's scriptwriters)
-(from magazine photos) Storm shooting a tidal wave and flushing part of Magneto's army away on Alcatraz Island
-(from magazine photos) an expansion of the scene between Rogue and Bobby at the end, where they kiss
-(magazine photos) a scene where Hank is holding books, inferring that he is going to teach at the school
-(from magazine photos) Wolverine going back to Canada for some reason (there is a publicity still of him in the bar, and the man credited as the bartender in the first film was also listed in the credits for this film)
-(from pre-release screening) every time Colossus armors up, a metal clinking noise is heard

In addition to this, the same report states that (and this is unconfirmed) the DVD release of the movie will contain:

-a scene where Colossus fights Juggernaut (cut for time constraints)
-the scene where Wolverine comments to Bobby how he might not come home (was considered redundant)
-a shot of Wolverine sliding down the back of the Sentinel's body (also cut for time restraints)
-a scene where Dr. Kavita Rao expresses her doubts about the cure
-a scene where Jean is emitting fire from her body

This is a Fox release, so do not get your hopes up in regards to an extended edition as the initial DVD release. This may very well come out six months after an initial half-ass release.

You're more than likely right, plus they won't carry over the features on that release. I do hope there's a rebate when the extended edition comes out for those who did buy the theatrical edition though...

And that would provide incentive for a lot of people who are like "I really want the new release, but I already own the movie" and such...

The extended version of Daredevil was like a completely different movie, and it was quite a good one, too.

This is yet another reason that I don't go to the theater anymore. For most big-budget films, the REAL film is the one that will be released on DVD, and the studios all know that now going in. Home video sales usually exceed theatrical sales these days, by many times. The true, ultimate market for film is now home video, like it or not. Going to the theater to see the film is like paying to see an unfinished product, in many cases. I'm very happy to wait for new films to be released on DVD rather than rushing out to see them at the theater.

Aren't we still waiting for the Fantastic Four extended cut? I'll believe this one when there's a press release for it.

Seriously, I remember reading in the newspaper when X-Men was released in theaters that they were planning an extended cut for DVD. The DVD came, nothing different. Then they decided to release X-Men 1.5. Alright, a new cut! Nope, same version...

The extended cut of Fantastic Four will come out June 2007 when the fantastic four sequel is released to theaters.

I agree. The theatrical releases are pretty much trailers for the DVD.
