saw this about six weeks ago. it was one of the better movies i've seen in the past couple of years. i wasn't a fan of 3rd rock, but james gordon leavitt did a kickass job in the lead role. i'll definitely be picking this one up.

I'd be curious to see the twenty minutes of deleted and extended scenes, but to see this movie again, would be rather painful.

Universal has changed trhe date to August 8th. Plus, although Universal hasn't announced it, there will be more extras than just the deleted scenes.

I was about to complain that with the movie basically cleared out of theaters, why the delay, but I'm all for more extras on the best movie of the year so far!

I'm working on my review right now (it should be up in the next couple days) but this is a terrifically underrated film and thankfully, arrived on DVD with several worthwhile bonus features ...

I'm looking forward to reading it. I loved this film but I am on the fence with the DVD.

What a great film. I don't know why some people say it was so "painful to watch." It was the most fun I've had at the movies all year (I know that's a cliche, but it's true...) I'll get the US, and then the UK dvd.

So I got this dvd last week and watched it on Sunday -

And while I liked it just fine, it could have been SO MUCH better it they had dropped the whole high school thing and made the movie with adults in black & white.

Using kids (though the acting was uniformly excellent) and Sunny San Clemente (which is about 10 miles south of where I live) really took away any impact it's (great) script could have had, and at times made it feel awkward and unintentionally silly.

I know he did what he had to due to budgetary constraints, but still...

Anyways, the dvd has a really good, clean transfer, and good sound, though the dialogue is sort of low, and then if you turn it up, you get hit with burst of loud sound effects. Average extras - deleted scenes, commentary and a couple screen-tests.

Still, I'll be looking forward to this writer/director's next movie quite a bit.

I'm pretty sure it was very intentionally silly. The lamp in the minivan? The rooster milk pitcher? The filmmakers were entirely aware that the setting of the film was ridiculous and addressed it openly.

Whatever their intentions may have been, the whole time I'm watching it, all I could think of was how cool it would be if it looked like Sin Ciy, and had actual scarry looking bad guys, instead of the kid from Witness - or real femme fetals instead of whiny little girls like the one from Lost.

Whatever you do, don't watch Veronica Mars.

Taste, it does vary, but I think this is closer in spirit to classic film noir than Sin City.

Real "femme fetals" huh? What, Dakota Fanning?
