Paramount/King SEs: Cujo, Sematary, Dead Zone
Davis DVD reports some fun news:
Paramount will be releasing Special Editions of Cujo (1983, Lewis Teague), The Dead Zone (1983, David Cronenberg), and Pet Sematary (1989, Mary Lambert) this Setember. Not two weeks ago I got The Dead Zone from DDD. :brickwl: And didn't Cujo used to be a WB title? |
The current <i>Dead Zone</i> is anamorphic, so whether or not I upgrade will definitely depend on the quality of the extras (Cronenberg commentary?) and what reviewers have to say re: any improvement on transfer quality.
I can live without the other two. |
I think Cujo was put out by Artisan/Republic Pictures (I have it in a box set w/ Langoliers and something else) I wonder what kind of extras these could have?
|
Wouldn't mind picking up The Dead Zone SE if they do an HD-DVD release of it.

Put me down for a Dead Zone upgrade, but only if it has substantial prticipation from Cronenberg & Walken. The audio and transfer on the current disc is fine.
|
Nice. I'm in for all 3.
Thanks for the info. |
Hopefully they will use the correct print on Cujo this time around. It's been reported that a tv print may have been used on the Artisan release. Since some language is obviously cut out.
|
I ended up buying Dead Zone from the UK (specs from DVD Rewind):
R0 United Kingdom - (Sanctuary Digital Entertainment) Commentaries:Audio commentary by screenplay writer Stephen Jones and film critic Kim Newman Extras:24 Page Collectable Booklet which includes international poster art, biographies and the script for the deleted scene Trailer If there is a substantially more extras (especially any Walken/Cronenberg participation), I will upgrade. |
What's the OAR for Cujo? The current version is 1.33:1, isn't it? I always thought this was P&S, so I never got it.

The Dead Zone is a terrific adaptation of King's work and IMO on par with Frank Darabont's King adaptations as the best translations of King's work. Highly underrated with a great, nihilistic performance by Walken.
|
I thought Paramount was also gonna do SEs of Thinner and Freeway (not a King novel, but just as creepy) as they own the Republican library now.
|
I'll probably be picking up "The Dead Zone," and possibly the others, too. I don't own any of them yet, and I've been toying with the idea of getting all of King's films.

But since I never picked up the dvd myself. I don't know for sure, thus have only heard it may be edited. |
Sounds good, hopefully they get great treatments. I haven't purchased any of those yet, so I guess I made a good choice.
On a King related note, Does anyone know about a new release of The Stand coming out? I can't seem to find it available for new on a few websites. That tells me they stopped producing copies, which signals a new release. |
Of course I bought the Dead Zone a couple weeks ago during the DDD Paramount sale. I would have waited but now I'll probably just keep the current disc, the transfer and audio are fine and they'll probably be carried over to the SE as is.

Hi res artwork for The Dead Zone has been posted.
|
Can't say I'm a fan of that cover art. Stephen King's name is bigger than the movie title.
However that won't stop me from getting this. |
Ya the titles kinda weird, and I am actualy a little bit shocked that they didn't try and make it look like the tv show as a way to tie it in...
|
It'll have to be a really nice SE for me to triple-dip. I already have the original Paramount release and the R0 UK SE with a pretty entertaining commentary(despite Cronenberg's absence).
|
That is some egg-suckin' artwork, obviously meant to match the newly revised covers for SILVER BULLET and GRAVEYARD SHIFT. Blech...
|
But what about the Cujo release? Hrmmm.
|
Agreed that the cover art is lame. Will still be picking it up though.
|
I don't own Dead Zone so I'll wait for this release but that is a really horrible cover.
