Dave Chappelle's Block Party Coming Soon to DVD
DVDactive.com has the artwork for the release of Dave Chappelle's Block Party. According to the Universal still hasn't made an official anouncement, so there is no official date of release. Here is the cover art with some info on the release:

Unless I missed it somewhere, there's no indication (at least on the front covers) that complete performances (or additional performances) would be included. I hope they are!
"Featuring: Dave Chappelle, some People from Ohio..." :) |
Yay for keeping original cover art!

Michael's Movie Mayhem has additional info up. Release date is 06/13/2006.

By all accounts this movie was great, but I just can't see watching it on a small screen. I might change my mind though.
|
I don't think you'd lose anything on a smaller screen at all personally. It plays very intimate anyway.

From dvdactive.com:
Title: Block Party Starring: Dave Chappelle Released: 13th June 2006 SRP: $29.98 Each Further Details: Universal Home Video has officially announced Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a mix of Chappelle's sketch comedy and musical interludes, inspired in part by the 1973 documentary Wattstax. It will be available in seperate rated (full frame only) and unrated editions from the 13th June this year. Each should retail at around $29.98. I'm afraid Universal has yet to reveal whether or not extra material will be included - but we'll let you know just as soon as we hear anything. For now though, here's the artwork: |
We have the complete specs.

Thanks! |
Any reviews on this? Couldn't find any here. tia

I'll be receiving a screener in the next few days. Hopefully I'll be able to have a review up by early next week.
As for other reviews, I spotted one over at Current Film recently. |
Thx. Maybe I'll win the dvdtalk contest before then. :)

I know there are about 5 extended performances on the disc,
and they are only accessible while watching the movie and using the white rabbit feature. When I watched it, I only caught 2. The others I found when using windows media, but does anyone know when the icons come up? EDIT: Alright, here they are, 4 extended performances: Press Enter at: 43:46 (Dead Prez) 48:23 (Dead Prez) 65:07 (Jill Scott) 68:35 (The Roots) all 4 songs are in anamorphic widescreen, but the picture quality is worse than the actual movie. The sound is encoded at Dolby 5.0, but only the front L and R speakers have sound, and its significantly higher than the movie itself. Be careful, have a remote handy. |

This is from an interview with Michel Gondry: Yeah, I worked with my friend Jeff Buchanan, he brought so much to it, and it was such a nightmare. We had nine hours of concert with nine cameras and the rest of the day we had one or two cameras. I hope they are going to release a long version in September, an extended DVD. It's going to be every song, maybe 40 minutes more. On Science of Sleep I'm going to do a B version of the movie on the DVD that's made up entirely of the deleted scenes, it will be 45 minutes long. |
