Prom Night and sequels?

Doesn't look like there is much too choose from in this series.Does one company hold the rights to all the movies?

in the UK there is a Region 2 Boxset with all the movies. It's available from Amazon.co.uk

In the US all of the rights holders are different.

It would be nice to see the original get a decent release.

The first movie has a pretty crappy release and parts 3 & 4 are in a double feature disc. I don't think part 2 is on DVD though.

The original Anchor Bay US release of the original film had a pretty good non-anamorphic widescreen transfer. It's worth seeking out if you can find it - but it goes for collector's prices. The current budget-label Platinum release of he first film is atrocious - it's full-frame and looks like it was ripped off a bad VHS master. Avoid at all costs.

The second film is available from Alliance Atlantis out of Canada. It's full-frame, but looks good overall. And it's cheap.

Yes, I have the Anchor Bay version of the original and I think the picture quality is just fine. I bought the Platinum version when it came out to compare and immediately gave it to someone else, it's so dark you can barely tell what's going on in most scenes.

The Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II DVD from Canada is also quite nice, it's a full frame version (transfers not too shabby for the price) with no extras but you can import it for less than 10 dollars.

Prom Night III: The Last Kiss/Prom Night IV: Deliver Us From Evil is most definitely the worst DVD of the bunch. For starters the Prom Night III transfer is lackluster at best and for the last 20 minutes has extreme glitching (on the transfer itself not a player issue) and they used the TV version of the film with all major violence and cursing cut out. The Prom Night IV transfer is alright, there are no major glitches and the R rated version of the film is used. This DVD can be found some places for 5 bucks though so even with it's faults it's worth it for a fan of the series.

Looks like the R2 box set is the way to go.

The Monkees 04-15-06 01:22 PM

Does the R2 box have any special features?

Amazon UK doesn't state if it does or not.

Yeah I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who has the Region 2 Prom Night Hamilton High Collection. Stuff like aspect ratios for all films, extras, how the video quality is, etc. Anyone own this?
