Commentaries done "in character" ?

I was just wondering if their were any out there.

I think this would be the coolest feature.
(hint, hint Kevin Smith for a Dante and Randal track on Clerks 2)

I know about Brian and Stewie on the "Flippin' Sweet Collection".

I had originally suggested this idea for the Kids in the Hall sets when they were asking online for input. I thought it would be funny for the characters not in the skit to comment on other skits. (for example, the kid with the Zelda hat talking about the cabbage head guy)

Brother Bear has the two Moose in characters (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas), who are actually just the Bob and Doug Mackenzie characters from Strange Brew. For a kids movie it is actually really funny and some great inside jokes for us older people.

Bruce Campbell as "The King" for Bubba Ho-Tep

The best one I can think of is on This is Spinal Tap. On the MGM release, the actors did a commentary in character. It was fun.

something similar are the "guest" appearances on the Mr. Show commentaries, they are entertaining at times.

One of the actors on the show (eg. Bob Odenkirk) will do a celebrity voice or something, and talk as that person during the commentary.

Madagascar has a penguin commentary track, with them in character talking about their scenes.

One of the commentary tracks on the "Little Donny" episode of UCB has them in character.

I find these highly obnoxious.

Have you listened to the Spinal Tap one?

BassDude 03-30-06 05:15 PM

Spinal Tap is good. I heard Margaret Cho does one as her mother on a comedy DVD.

Season One of King of the Hill had character commentaries. They totally sucked.

I'm pretty sure one or two of the "freaks and geeks" commentaries had character commentaries...

freshticles 03-30-06 06:32 PM

Fubar is brilliant!

joltman 03-30-06 06:40 PM

On 1 or 2 of the Powerpuff Girl DVDs, there's a couple of episodes where the Mayor and Mojo Jojo (in different episodes) do commentaries.
Muppets From Space has Kermit The Frog, Gonzo, Rizzo in addition the director on the commentary. Muppet Treasure Island has Gonzo and Rizzo,

On the "Mr. Show" DVDs, the participants sometimes go into different characters. I didn't find them very funny (unlike the show).

I find these kind of annoying too, because I feel like I'm missing out. Instead of talking about, you know, making the movie or show, or sharing some interesting anecdote, you have some guy trying to be funny.

I'll second that one. Great movie too.

Cosmo and Wander on The Fairly Oddparents movie...although it's extremely annoying.

rennervision 03-31-06 04:18 PM

The Thermians provide a commentary in their alien language for Galaxy Quest.

Yup. Mr. Rosso, Coach Fredericks, and Mr Kowchevski do a commentary. The episode was "Tests and Breasts."

slothroplt 03-31-06 05:29 PM

Steve Coogan/Alan Partridge on the "I'm Alan Partridge" DVDs. :hump:

shtfilter 03-31-06 09:43 PM

Thanks everybody...

Those are some good choices...

Funny thing is:
I already own This Is Spinal Tap and the Freaks and Geeks LE Set.

I didn't know that about them.

Speaking of Mr. Show...there should have been a Ronnie Dobbs commentary on Run, Ronnie, Run. That would have sold a lot more copies.

I remember hearing a Whitey commentary on "Eight Crazy Nights". Not the best movie, imho...but worth mentioning.
