I guess Sony is feeling the need to re-release all of the MGM flicks. Wasted time and effort. No $ale.

Further Details:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced a special edition of the 1987 Rob Reiner directed The Princess Bride which stars Robin Wright Penn, Cary Elwes and Billy Crystal. The set will be available to own from the 16th June, and should set you back around $24.96 in total. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include a Dread Pirate Roberts: Legend of the Seven Seas mockumentary, a featurette entitled Love is Like a Storybook Story, a Miraculous Make-Up featurette, a Quotable Battle of Wits Trivia Game, an As You Wish Featurette, Cary Elwes' Home Video footage, and more. The set will arrive in two packages - designed for seperate male and female audiences. As far as we are aware, both will be identical features wise.

Seperate covers for male and female audiences? Is this a first?
June 16th is a Friday. I'm guessing they meant the 13th.

I guess Sony figures everyone has already seen the movie as the Buttercup edition ruins the movie in several ways... Not going to name them as some here may not have seen the movie.

"It shows Wesley as the DPRoberts.Or atleast him in the same outfit. Also it makes it look like Wesley and Buttercup end up together."

That's the only spoiler I can see on the buttercup edition.
That, and it shows that guy from SAW on the cover. That ruines the whole thing for me.

btw, I like Cary Elwes and love this movie.

Wow, if someone can't tell in about a nansecond that the Dread Pirate Roberts is Wesley, then they needs to have all their pencils and pens removed and replaced with crayons. And as far as making it look like Wesley and Buttercup end up together, dead God, does anyone really approach a film like this biting their nails at the crushing mystery of how it's all going to turn out??? I feel idiotic having to use spoiler tags on any of this...

I didn't even think about that on the Buttercup cover.

As much as I love this movie, I'll probably stick with the SE I have ... unless I decide to toss it up on eBay and just buy the damn upgrade. Argh.

I'd like to know how long those new documentaries are. If they go beyond typical EPK trype, then I may bite.

It looks like the only stuff missing from the original disc is the photo gallery, UK trailer and 4 TV spots, and the new material is the first three things.

Oooh, that sounds rad. Kind of like the Saw packaging but with LIQUID METAL. I'll quadruple dip for that! Bring it on!

Great movie, a family favorite that I've loved since I first watched it at age eight or nine.

With that said, I already have the special edition and feel absolutely no need to double-dip. Still, I do like the "Buttercup Edition" cover better than the one I have now (despite the fact that I'm a male.)

Maybe it's an experiment on current DVD buying trends and how packaging affects gender preferences?

I would dump my old SE, but I have a bizarre condition where I have to keep it unless EVERYTHING is on the new edition. If it is missing even just a preview or text production note, I will have to own both editions.

Luckily I am only this OCD about my top 20 or so movies....

I sold off my SE version a long time ago (long story). So I might actually pick one of these up.
