I'm not saying you're wrong, but DVDSpot has no listing for any such boxed set; I believe the releases you are describing were initially released only as individuals, then were later incorporated into that first "red boxing gloves" boxed set.

I remember the red box set, but I do vaguely remember an early Rocky release in a snapper case. Only the first film, but I'm probably wrong.

There were definitely earlier individual releases - that much I'm positive about - but I also seem to recall seeing them packaged together as a box set as well. I never owned it personally, so I can't say for certain.

That could be, but if so, they changed the coverart. The original 1997 releases did not have that spanning spine imagry.

Right--same DVDs as the snappers you've mentioned, but with new case artwork for the boxed set.

There are also different configurations of that box set: the ones with the bare-bones Rocky, the ones with the Rocky SE, and various combos with or without the silent anamorphic upgrade/Russian subtitle fix to Rocky IV.

Man, I wish they'd just get it right once and for all. All 5 (soon to be 6) films in anamorphic widescreen, single-sided discs with full disc art, and at least a commentary and making-of featurette for each of the sequels. Why is that so damn hard?

I notice that Stallone will gladly provide commentary as an actor. It's yet to be seen if he'll do one as a director (And given that he's directed a majority of the sequels, chances are slim)

I believe the Anthology contained everything you just mentioned.

Forgot to mention that the Suncoast I went to this past Tuesday already had copies of this. Full price though, as expected.

As a boxing fan, I'm interested to hear what Bert & Duva have to say on the new commentary.

Picked it up at Target...it seems it comes with Movie cash no matter where you buy it. It also had a little preview book of the Ultimate Guide to Rocky.

Not the extras. It doesn't even have the bonus features on Rocky 1 from the SE.

Isn't some of the video framed different on the previous releases? I have the old "Special Edition" and I thought it was framed a bit differently than the single disc that came with the last Anthology set. If so, which framing does this 2-disc set use?

i dont think there is a DTS track on the new 2 discer either. There was one on the Anthology set though. There arent any deleted scenes or extended ed. of the movie on the new release correct?

I picked it up at Wal-Mart for $14.99 -- didn't feel like double-dipping on Rocky but for just a few bucks more I get a nice DVD package and the movie ticket for Rocky Balboa. Figure with movie ticket prices around or near $10 bucks about $5 to $6 bucks more for the DVD, which makes it worth it for the movie ticket alone.

How does the free movie ticket work, does an actual ticket come with the DVD? Do you go to a specific movie theather? I saw the DVD at target and it said "only at participating theaters" so I didn't buy it.

It looks like a check...theres a huge list of theaters in the back, and from the looks of it all of the major ones are covered.

I know, there is a huge resemblance and it's hard to tell them apart on the outside. However, the inside of Rocky has a 2-disc keepcase instead of a nice digipack like the Raging Bull CE. I wanted a digipack for Rocky like the RBCE!
