Sid & Nancy This is Spinal Tap MGM has never licensed any films to Criterion in the DVD era (nor has MGM's new parent company, Sony). |

MGM no longer licenses to Criterion but they did in the late 90's. MGM recently bought Orion Pictures, which has been folded completely into MGM. Orion's library contained over 1,000 films. However, Orion had signed DVD licensing arrangements with other companies before the buyout, and those contracts are being honored by MGM. Once those licensing agreements expire (in around two to three years), MGM will retain full distribution rights over Orion titles. |
Equinox IS a favorite among horror fans. That is, the REAL ones. It's most certainly a welcome release. Thank you, Criterion.

In the recent Criterion newsletter, there is a logo and a line: New look, new line... coming this fall.
I wonder if this means Blu-ray, HD-DVD or both?!? |
I'm another one who can't wait for Equinox.

Criterions available for pre-order at Amazon -
Dazed and Confused, Equinox, A Nos Amours , Harlan County, U.S.A., Viridiana, Late Spring, Fists in the Pocket, and The Complete Mr. Arkadin. Might be a good time to pop them in the Wish List and get a Gold Box coupon as well. |

I saw Equinox a number of years ago on AMC, and I have to say it did leave an impression on me. Sort of like the filmmakers were pretty short of money, resources and experience, but they had a very strong artistic vision. Definitely on the cheesy side, but also atmospheric and pretty ambitious for such a low-budget flick. I'd enjoy seeing a restored print of this.

I love that cover.

What's up with Amazon's pricing of Late Spring?
$39.95 + $0.04 sourcing fee WTF? No usual 30% discount? |
I didn't see this reported anywhere else, but I noticed in the Coming Soon section of the Criterion website that they've listed two titles for release in July: Yi Yi and Koko: A Talking Gorilla.
Link: http://www.criterionco.com/asp/coming_soon.asp Personally, I'm wicked excited about Yi Yi, and I love the cover art. Edit: Sorry, I just saw the post about the announcement of these two titles. Nothing came up when I did a search... |
