Freddy is the man!!! The icon of horror in my opinion. Jason wishes he could be half as cool as Freddy! The original Nightmare box set was the thing that made me upgrade to dvd in the first place because I was already buying widescreen movies on vhs, but could only find the first one in WS on vhs and the dvd box set had all the movies in their original aspect ratio.
I'll gladly buy this one again but I wonder if the other films in the series will get a better treatment, even though they look and sound fantastic considering the box set was released in '99.

I am wondering about all the items that were part of the laserdisc as well (most notably the deleted scenes).
The $100 94' or so laserdisc was by far the best presentation the film saw as far as coole extras. The DVD severly pailed in comparison. I remember thinking this back in 99'.
Does Elite still own these items from back in 94'-96'? If so, they may not make this DVD.
I no longer own the box set and haven't in several years, so I will be repurchasing this DVD as well. They probably will eventually do the series over time. I hope they remastered in Hi-Def (I would assume so; the first disc probably already was), so they can port over the HD-DVD or Bly-Ray eventually in the next year or two.

Cover art is not the greatest, but it is still much better than the horrendous Scream-ripoff boxes we got the first time around. Those covers were all terrible. I guess this doesn't include the box set because it didn't use that art.

I'm really glad I snagged the Elite collector's edition laserdisc a few years ago off ebay for $15. Looks like all that extra footage and promo stuff may never see the light of day again.

I think I'm gonna hold off on this. I just have a feeling, there'll be a new boxset in the near future. Besides, I never owned the original boxset.
And why are the people who make these covers, so afraid of the original covers? 99% of the time, the new ones blow donkeys.

I like the new cover. I own the boxset and will glad double dip on this, whether or not 2-7 get upgraded. I don't think those specs are definitive yet, so I can't wait to hear what else will on there.
Desppite that box set being the thing, it was for a long while, it wasn't a fullfledged special edition. The best thing was Freddy's Dead in 3-D!!!! That bonus disc was hard to navigate and took too much time to sort thru. So, yes, there'll be a new boxset in the future, but I'm not holding my breathe...duoble dipping here!

The only quible I would have with it is the new font, which is too plain and not eye catching. The original first Nightmare font with the thick red/splatter lettering is iconic I think, along with the more 'stylish' font they used for the sequels.

It included several deleted scenes not in the boxset, as well as some FX test footage. These features were also on the two-tape Anchor Bay VHS set (which I have). The deleted scenes are actually kind of cool. There's an entire subplot where
