Hypothetical "Shady" DVD Disc Question
I have a friend of a friend that went to china. This friend brought back some oscar nominated films that have yet to be released to dvd here in the states. The actual disks themselves had a funny smell to them but nothing else seemed strange. The movies themselves would skip and freeze every once in a while, but my friend just thought it was because of the way they were poorly made.
A couple days later, my friend felt guilty for having these and got rid of them immediately. When he went to go play his Green Day cd in the same dvd/cd player he had these "shady dvd discs" in, he noticed that some of his songs skipped or froze. THe next thing my friend did was put in his Star Wars Episode 3 Soundtrack into the player and it seemed to skip and freeze as well. He felt that maybe his player was going, so he tried playing the same discs in another cd player. The green day cd wouldn't play at all. This time he put in a brand new cd in the 2nd player and it was also skipping. The discs themselves had no scratches. QUESTION: Is it possible for a shady disc to ruin a player, then other discs getting ruined and ruining other players as well? It sounds like a virus, but I didn't think dvd's could give stand alone players viruses. Is it possible that the "shady" dvd's had some sort of harmful foreign dust that ruins players and other cd's/dvd's? Thanks for anyone that can give me any info or help. |

Get out of the house! It's possible you could get infected by the shady DVDs as well, causing you to skip and freeze. It may already be too late!! -eek-
But seriously though, I don't see anyway that could be possible. |
I've heard it all now...
Perhaps the discs were dirty, have left something on the lense in the player which has somehow transfered itself to the other discs? Maybe your 'friend' now has bad DVD karma which follows him around, in which case tell him to stay the hell away from these forums! jk |
Update: He has played a couple more cd's on the one player, no more problems. His new plan is to just buy a lens cleaner and see if that solves all his problems. Thanks for helping my friend. ;)
