Finally! Universal Reissues "Earthquake" --> May 9th!
Retail is $14.98....I'm sure it'll be barebones....but, finally an anamorphic print! Sweet!
Where did you hear this? I couldn't find anything about it through a goolge search.
Good. That will fill out my disaster films section nicely along with the upcoming SE's of The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure.
Found it on Universal's website. According to the information on there it will be bare bones. However, a great price on it.
DVD Anamorphic Widescreen English, Spanish, English SDH (Subtitled), French (Subtitled), Spanish (Subtitled) Snap Case Price: $10.98 |
Wonder if they'll reinsert the 'airplane landing' scene, which was for some reason edited out of the Goodtimes version...
A Special Edition would have been nice but for that price the Anamorphic WS is cool and will go perfect with Poseidon and Towering Inferno: SE's released the same day.
Whoa--finally. Thanks for the good news, OP.
No Sensurround = No Sale!!! :)
"Barbara! Hand me your pantyhose!"
One of my favorite terrible movies - not quite up to Showgirls standards, but still high on the list!
A guilty pleasure for sure.

Universal also added footage and significantly altered another Chuck Heston film of the period, TWO MINUTE WARNING. In the TV version, the sniper is mixed up with a gang of art thieves who are hoping that the police will be so distracted with the killings at the football game, that this will leave the field open for them to steal paintings at a local art gallery without anyone stopping them. The theatrical version was no classic, but the TV version is even worse. EARTHQUAKE had around 15 minutes of footage added. TWO MINUTE WARNING a bit more. |
I wouldn't have minded the TV version being included as an extra, but I'm just glad to get an anamorphic release of the theatrical cut.
Most of the disaster films of the time were expanded for network TV. AIRPORT 77 had nearly an hour of additional footage added (I've got that version on VHS) and THE CONCORDE AIRPORT 79 had a few minutes added. There were also expanded versions of BEYOND THE POSIDEON ADVENTURE, THE SWARM, TOWERING INFERNO among others. |

If the disc is 5.1 DD, it's quite possible the Sensurround has been added. I have the PAL Anamorphic DVD version of the film and the Sensurround is contained in the 5.1 mix. It might be the same mix that will be used in this version. Keep your fingers crossed. The 5.1 mix with Sensurround is awesome!

Personally, I'm glad it's bare bones. If there were any special features, we could count on double-sided discs that lock up on many players.

This movie is freaking hilarious. A definite must buy for me:)
It is going to be in Senserround??
s Lucas redoing all the special effects for this movie? |
According to DavisDVD this will indeed carry the Sensurround soundtrack. Anamorphic, remastered and sensurround for $11.00 = bought man!

Sensurround was essentially a 1.1 audio format. It was mono with a dedicated bass channel added. It's certainly possible that the 5.1 track on the DVD could be mastered to replicate this (audio only coming from the front speaker and the subwoofer), but it's also possible that the studio might remix it to fake stereo and surround effects. I'm curious to know which way they're going with it.
according to the link a post or so back from davisdvd, the sensurround track will be an extra track and is 3.1
so that would be only front + sub. |
