Tim Burton & Danny Elfman Los Angeles/West Hollywood, CA Corpse Bride signing 2/14/06

This Tuesday Tim Burton and Danny Elfman are doing a signing for the Corpse Bride DVD and 1 other item. It's at the Best Buy in West Hollywood...on Santa Monica & La Brea. 8:30 p.m.-?.

TomOpus 02-12-06 12:21 AM

Man, wish I could be there. It'll probably be a zoo, though. And what's the deal with 8:30pm for a signing?

Yeah, it's a little late for me too, so I won't be going...even though it's right down the street. I'd like to get my Nightmare Before Christmas press kit signed.

This would be cool to go to but I have a flight at 6am the next morning... Ugh... dunno if I want to try for this or not.

Anyone know from past experience how long it'll take to get through the line ?

TomOpus 02-12-06 02:20 AM

If either are worried about getting out of there too late, just show up around 6:30. This way, all your investment time is on the front end. There's a good chance you might be out of there by 9, if they don't spend tons of time talking to each person. Just figure about 1 min per person in front of you... less if they're organized and don't allow people to ask questions.

Man it must be great living in Cali. No chance for anything like that down here in Bama. Hell, didn't he film Big Fish in Alabama? He should come here and do a signing dammit!

Look at the first post :D

If you plan on going, I'd call the day of to make sure nothing has changed. Also I've seen it where they'll change it to just the DVD so everyone can at least get it signed, if there's a large crowd.

Thanks Tom. That would suck if they only limit it to the DVD. I saw some on Ebay and it seemed like he signed other stuff. I'll probably be there around 6:30 - 7. Also thanks to the OP for the info.

TomOpus 02-13-06 06:49 AM

Cool, you're going!

Make sure you come back and give us details. Take pics, if possible.

dizzlle01 02-15-06 02:39 AM

woot, just got back and got my Big Fish Special Edition,Batman, Corpse Bride, and The Nightmare Before Christmas signed.I waited about 3 hours.

TomOpus 02-15-06 06:10 AM

Details, man! What time did you get in line? Did you have a chance to talk to him? Anyone come dressed up like Edward Scissorshands? :D

SilverDreams 02-15-06 10:03 AM

I went to this last night and by the time they got my my group they limited us to one item for Danny/Tim so I got my Ed Wood DVD signed by Tim and my Edward Scissorhands cd booklet signed by Danny. And I got a picture with Tim which is really cool. I was there for about five hours total. BLEH. I think I ruined Valentine's Day for my boyfriend. I asked him to take me and told him "oh no, it won't take that long". Well I was wrong, the line didn't start moving until about 9:15 and it was to start at 8:30. Some people said there was a Q&A inside at 8:30 but if there was I couldn't hear it outside. So that sucks. But overall it was a good experience. The picture makes up for the long wait. That's really cool I think :)

Yeah, I was pretty bummed out when they suddenly limited it to 1 item per person.
But we had 4 Corpse Bride DVDs with us and 3 of them I had presold to overseas.
So we just put all 4 on the table and Tim and Danny signed them with no problem. Only the publicist or whoever it was, was not amused. Lol
Cool guys.
I asked Tim whether Sweeney Todd was a go but he said: "Nothing's a go right now".

Tried to get into this, but some security goon came to our part of the line about 9:30p saying that we would not be able to get in and if we stayed BB would call the cops to have us disperse. Dicks.

NatrlBornThrllr 02-15-06 11:25 AM

I'm jealous. But I get Spike Lee on March 1, Ray Harryhausen on March 28, and Jane Fonda in April...so I'll live. I missed Lily Tomlin a few days ago and I'm kinda pissed at myself.

It sucks to never really have opportunities like these. :( Awesome for those of you who were there!

I went to the event as well, I have never seen so many people wait in line just to get 2 celebrities' autographs. Long read, but hopefully interesting.

Left around 5:45 from Orange County with my brother and 2 friends. Traffic from the get go was hell. We arrived at Best Buy around 7:30. By this time, the line already snaked outside close to reaching the parking lot. I dropped them off by the end of the line before I looked for a parking spot. I find a spot 15 minutes later and find them in the line. By this time, there were already about 15 people behind them.

Employees and PR guys (jerkoffs) stated that they would sign any 1 corpse bride merchandise plus any 1 item you want signed. Around 9, the line finally starts moving slowly.

Out of nowhere, 2 employees started giving out wristbands. I overheard them say they had a total of about 400 -500 wristbands. We lucked out and got the wristbands, I'd say, 30 or so people behind us were the last ones to get it. We go inside the building, then they cut the line, so at least 100 people got screwed. Most of them must have been hardcore fans because they were waiting outside, hoping security would let them in.

As we were inside the building, one of the jerkoffs stated that they would only sign 1 item but it could be any item. So me and my brother decided that we will have the Planet Of The Apes and the Dwarf General figure signed. My friends were bummed because they already opened the Corpse Bride DVD's and they decided to get different items signed.

As we were close to getting their autographs, which was around 11:00 pm, they were checking out wristbands again. The guy behnd u didn't have one, I don't know if he snuck in line or he went somewhere when they handing them out, but they booted his ass!! He didn't argue or anything, so I'm thinking he snuck in.

We go to the table and one of my friend goes first. She gets a Corpse Bride book signed and asked Tim if she could take a picture with him. He said "sure, but just make it quick". He stands up and poses for the camera with her. I try to snap the picture, but my camera died, batteries are out!!! I quickly took her camera and snapped away. Flash didn't go off so it was a bit blurry but at least she took a picture with him (it was her first signing event so I was happy for her). The head PR jerk and one his cronies got pissy. The crony yelled "No pictures, you have to go". While the head jerk told Danny Elfman "I guess she's the one wearing the jeans." Elfman just smirked and said "yeah". My other friend tried to get 2 items signed because his gf, who lives out of state is also a big Tim Burton fan. But one of the guards said, only item please. I think he had Nightmare Before Christmas DVD signed. Then he jokingly asked Elfman, "No more Spider Man 3 for you?". Elfman responded "No, Tim won't let me do it. He put his boot down". Finally it was my turn, got the poster signed and shook both of their hands. They thanked us for waiting for so long and off we went. As we left the parking lot, people who didn't get in were running towards the lot. I figured it must have been that Burton already left and they were trying to catch him as he was heading towards his car. Insane night but worth it. Must have waited in line for about 3 and a half hours. I'll post pics later.

That sucks that they almost ruined your scalping chance and were trying to accomodate more true fans (at one item per). Hope you made good money.
