Really? I was under the impression that it wasn't the special edition. That's what kept me from ordering this set. Now I might have to look into it again!

During a recent Wherehouse.com sale, I purchased a used copy of the 2-disc Patton, and it was indeed the 2-disc version. Arrived in like-new condition, for under $10 with coupon. I traded in my 1-disc version as part of the process also, which offset the price even more. But even at the current price, it's worth it to try to upgrade. If for some reason they send the 1-disc version, which I doubt would happen, they have good CS, so there's not much risk.

I don't believe it was, in my set at least... I replaced the set copy with my SE that I already owned.

No. Tora Tora Tora in the box set is the old, non-SE version.

A dream came true today, kind of. We have a nice new pristine version of TTRL available in stores (Blu-Ray and Standard). My only complaint (it's not truly even a complaint) is that there are only 14 minutes of outtakes. I would love to have had 30 minutes worth of full deleted scenes. But then I would have wanted 45 minutes...and so on.

Just getting a glimpse of what I had always read about all those years ago is enough for me I think.

If left to his own devices, Malick would have tinkered with TTRL indefinitely. The film that premiered nationwide in early 1999 is indeed the vision he settled on after combing through everything he and John Toll filmed and now we can see it in the best possible quality.

Thanks Criterion!

I watched the Blu-Ray over the weeked, projected to about 120". Stunning isn't even a strong enough word. This is my new reference disc. It's just amazing the picture quality this good is available & affordable at the consumer level.

Nice classy artwork too.

The 5.1 on the standard DVD nearly blew my house up.
