Damn.... I was thinking of catching this at the theater this weekend. Maybe I should wait?

matome 01-27-06 07:49 AM

I was debating whether to see this in the theater as well. Guess I'll wait now.

Mr. Cinema 01-27-06 07:50 AM

This was fast.

Is the sequel coming out next week?

FantasticVSDoom 01-27-06 11:20 AM

Wait...Its not anything worth spending the extra $$ for. It has its moments, but nothing you HAVE to see. Not sure if this will be a purchase for me, guess Ill see what it comes with in terms of extras.

alfonsosoriano 01-27-06 11:24 AM

Hopefully they release an unrated extended version of sorts sometime.

Yeah I would only be interested in seeing a new cut of the film. Especially one that removed the first hour.
:)

Maxflier 01-27-06 11:51 AM

A definate purchase for me, loved the movie. Thanks for the info.

hapgilmore 01-27-06 12:14 PM

anyone debating about whether to see it in the theater or not, I say don't see it period. Hostel is a terrible movie. It is stupid and exploitative and pointless. How anyone is entertained by people being graphically tortured is beyond me. Everyone needs to get off the fact that Tarantino is the producer. Don't believe the hype. If the movie was really that good, Tarantino would have directed it himself.

This guy is wrong. period.

I'll pick it up, and watch it sometimes on the television.

Julie Walker 01-27-06 04:24 PM

Unlike Hap,I thought it was a really good movie that was interesting from begining to end. And the torture aspect takes up very little of the films running time. But it is very effective:)

So to say people are 'entertained by seeing people graphically tortured',you make it sound like the film is a nonstop torture fest from begining to end. When it is not even close!

And I'll definitely pick up the dvd since if an unrated version is released later on. It may contain a totally different ending..and I really liked the theatrical ending.

EdTheRipper 01-27-06 04:32 PM

I'll rent this.

:crap:

If you don't like the movie, why would you go into a thread about it's DVD release?

Peep 01-28-06 03:12 AM

Saw this twice in the theaters. Might see it again there. Will definately be picking it up on DVD.

dsa_shea 01-28-06 08:32 AM

I hope there are some special features that show filiming of the movie as well as a good commentary. Maybe he'll explain his thinking behind some of the sadists that are in the movie.

Mr. Cinema 01-28-06 08:41 AM

I'm a huge fan of Roth's Cabin Fever. But I think I'll wait and rent this one.

Sunday Morning 01-28-06 09:54 PM

I would recommend those who are interesting in seeing the movie for the first time to go to the cinema. It's visual and a lot of fun. Especially with a big audience. Gasps, walkouts, chair clenching, women grabbing your arm or if you're lucky other things...
Perfect theater movie. That is if you like horror pictures.

Likely one of the reasons theater revenue is on the decline. Time between theatrical release and DVD release is shrinking, so would-be moviegoers figure there's little reason to drop $10 (or $6 for a matinee) now when they're going to be able to pick up the DVD in just three or four months.

I think we should torture him. That would be fun. :)

WTF?
I seriously doubt Roth wrote the movie with the intention of having someone else direct it.

logboy 01-29-06 04:36 AM

roth mentioned a while back (before xmas) it would be out march, so april isnt that much of a stretch. it will (or should) be the cinema version, with a different one out later apparently... we'll see.

salamander2 01-29-06 05:22 AM

Didnt Tarantino just "present" it, rather than "Produce" it?

asianxcore 01-29-06 10:38 PM

I thought Tarantino just slapped on his "Presents" thing to get more attention to the film, since he enjoyed it. He's done it with many other films that he neither produced nor directed. (Chung King Express was one of them right?? I can't remember)

Definitely will be picking this up on DVD. here's hoping it'll be a director's cut or unrated.

mndtrp 01-29-06 11:59 PM

I would like to hear a commentary on this. A good commentary, not one that simply talks about actors. I'd like to hear one that explains his reasoning behind the choices he made.

Good flick. I'll watch it again. Sometime.
It's kind of like Kids. I don't want to watch it weekly, but good to check out once or twice a year.
