Pedro Almodovar Classics Collection ----> 4/4/06
Thedigitalbits.com is reporting that Sony is going to release The Pedro Almodovar Collection on April 4th.
In more official DVD news, Sony has revealed the following titles for release on 4/4: Dirty, Dawson's Creek: The Complete Sixth Season, The Story of Qiu Ju, Thank God It's Friday, a Blue Thunder: Special Edition and a Pedro Almodovar Classics Collection (including All About My Mother, Bad Education, Talk to Her and The Flower of My Secret). Interesting, since it was reported a couple of weeks ago that Bad Education and Talk to Her were being discontinued. |
When you put "Classics" in your title, I thought that the collection might include some of his classic releases, not the newer ones.

Same here .... where's Labrynth of Passion, Dark Habits, Matador etc. ??? |
will BAD EDUCATION be the NC-17 cut?
|
I too was hoping for a R1 release of Matador...and it would be nice if OOP titles like Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, Kika and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown were re-released for those who missed them the first time around.
By the by, Dark Habits is in print in R1 (though one Amazon "reviewer" claims it is edited.) |

"All About My Mother" and "Talk to Her" are both masterpieces, in my opinion, and I still haven't seen "Bad Education" - so if this is a good release I'll definitely be purchasing it.

Total scam!!
These people are either complete idiots not to realize that serious film fans are after different titles at this point or simply don't care!! Furthermore, after the fiasco with Lila Says I have firmly decided not to go after the R1 (upcoming) titles. This is not how you celebrate Almodovar (with a new package)!! Ciao, Pro-B |
Since when are films made in the last 15 years "classics" ?
|
What a total joke! I already own all of these. I say bring on the classic Almodovar titles.

What is so frustrating is that via the Internet, I saw the complete Almodovar films available once upon a time--El Pais, a daily paper in Spain, had a promotion for subscribers or purchasers where you could buy a different movie each week for a ridiculously low price. I think this was in 2004. I couldn't afford to go to Spain on a weekly basis, unfortunately. I don't know what the quality of them was. (This promotion is long over with and I don't think has any info about it on the 'net anymore, so I don't think I'm violating any part of the user agreement by reciting ancient history.)
And of course one sees various online retailers with things here and there. I finally resorted to buying my own Region 2 DVD player (silly, I know, but I found one that did reasonable video conversion and had a universal power supply) and bought several of the films when traveling in Europe or mail-order. The down side is that the ones I got in France have French subtitles only (not a problem as I speak French). Another (Law of Desire) has only Portuguese subtitles and is a really poor-quality transfer. I would have happily purchased DVDs here...I hope they eventually become available, and I will do so. I've rented extremely worn VHS versions from our video store of the early movies, just to get to see them. (I willingly paid the 'damage protection' insurance as I know too well they aren't replaceable at this point in time.) The delays getting "Bad Education" to our part of the country were ridiculous. I think it finally was showing here a year after it came out. I went and saw it on a trip to Paris before it was out....so the reports that this is the 'year of Almodovar' and that heavier promotion will be done on "Volver" is good news. At least Almodovar hasn't made his movies less gay and more violent just to satisfy the MPAA... |
It seems that this set has been canceled or postponed. Anyone has any news about it?
