Vanishing (Criterion ed. question)

Does anyone know if The Vanishing (original foreign version..not the remake) only has english sub titles or does it have English dubbed audio track too?
(sorry if this has been covered...did a search and couldn't find info)
thanks

It's presented with its original language track (Dutch) and optional English subtitles only.

The DVD's really light on the extras, but it's a great movie!

Awesome movie. One of my favorites. As previously stated, no dubbing.

I go back to this film a lot, one of my favorite Criterions. Don't let the subtitles scare ya away. :)

I may give it a chance.....DDD is having that criterion sale so i may pick it up.
I've only seen passion and brotherhood of the wolf. They werent bad but i really don't want to have to keep reading subtitles

Agreed 100%.

Do see the Dutch (original) version before you see the American remake. You may find out that you only want to add the Dutch version to your collection.

some of the best movies ever made don't come with an english dub...don't shut yourself out....

This version of the Vanishing is so much better than the watered down US remake. Definitely check it out.

The more you watch subtitled movies, the more you get used to 'em. You're missing out on some great undubbed movies and missing out when you watch a dubbed movie (when the original language is available).

If you have Netflix maybe you could rent a few.

I've watched enough subtitled movies that I've grown to prefer having subtitles on ALL native (English) language films I watch. You can pick up on a lot of dialogue you'd otherwise miss. There's a mumbled phrase in Eyes Wide Shut, from the teenage slut, that you can't hear but you can read from the subtitles...

I have this reserved at the library. Can't wait to see it.

I just got this yesterday.

Is anyone aware of a few missing frames somewhere in the middle of the film when she's buying a frisbee?

Yeah mine does that.

Cool (I guess?), thanks!

While this thread is active, I'll throw out another question for Le Cercle Rouge. Around the 1/2 hour mark when he's getting into the chopper. A few missing frames there too, no?

I guess this is this common on a lot of older titles, I've noticed it on a few others, like some Kurosawa flicks, but I just was surprised today that I watched 2 flicks that both had this same issue. Maybe I'm just lucky I guess. :(

If you look closely, the jump is due to something in the background. It looks like they used the first part of a take, then used the second part of the take for the same scene. Something was in the background for the second one.
