Ataru Oikawa serves up a forbidding vision of horrific obsession – and you can bet there will be blood!

Ripped from the headlines, TOKYO PSYCHO retraces the steps of a real Japanese serial killer. It's a haunting take on the stalker film that matches the exquisite minimalism of Stanley Kubrik with the macabre voyeurism of David Lynch. Graphic, shocking and unrelenting! A new wave Asian horror classic! - Feb 28th 2006

Sex is Zero - Spring Break With a Panik House Twist! Very few comedies have grossed over one hundred million dollars at the box office, and those that have are the absolute honor roll: Animal House, Porky’s, There’s Something About Mary, American Pie. In the tradition of such raunchy slapstick coming-of-age classics such as Animal House and Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Sex Is Zero explores the longings, lust, lunacy and life lessons that go hand-in-hand with young love, athletic ambition and carnal chaos among friends on a college campus.

After a stint in the Navy, 28-year-old Eunsik (Chang-Jung Im) returns to college where he takes up a hardcore Cha-Ryeok fitness regimen. Imagine his surprise, then, when he discovers that the university's female aerobics team – led by gorgeous Eunhyo (Jiw-Won Ha) – will be training right alongside him. Naturally, our hero's focus shifts from pumping iron to picking up the ladies. And, just as naturally, the attraction isn't exactly mutual … at first. Backed by a pack of dudes as hormonally heated-up and affably clueless as he is, Eunsik sets out to win Eunhyo's heart, even if he has to suffer an endless series of wild, hilarious, nonstop humiliations and engage in all manner of campus high jinks along the way. That's exactly what Eunsik does in Sex Is Zero – just like we've all done (at some point) in real life. - March 28th 2006

Behind-the-Scenes: The making of Sex is Zero documentary Featurette
Audio Commentary with Mike Mcpadden & Mr.Skin of the Howard Stern Show

Uninvited - “UNINVITED is passionately accomplished: its sound design, script, cinematography and acting are all masterfully fabricated.” – Variety

Award Winner Fantasia International Film Festival Award Winner Pacifc Media Expo Webby Award Winner for Best Film. The term "modern classic" is admittedly overused, but an understatement in the case of Lee Su-Yeon's UNINVITED. The film was among the most anticipated in Korean movie history, and it's star, Ji Hyun Jun (My Sassy Girl) became the Korean Julia Roberts. Since this film was first announced for a 2006 DVD release, there have been talks of an American remake with an A List Hollywood cast and a genre legend directing.

Make no mistake: this is a whole new type of horror film -one of utter emotional isolation and character development unseen in horror since The Exorcist or Rosemary's Baby. The harrowing finale had audience members fainting in the aisles in its homeland, and the film has been collecting awards at film festivals worldwide for the past two years.

Panik House will be releasing this film theatrically preceding this DVD release.

The Ring. The Grudge. Now UNINVITED. - Apr 25th 2006

I ordered mine from DDD. The whole first pressing should have it, so until it sells out, we should be ok.

I plan on getting Uninvited and Tokyo Psycho. I enjoy their releases a lot. I just hope we get some more pinky violence later this year.

Thanks for the heads up. Based on what I've seen of Panik House's Toei discs, these should look really nice. Interesting choice of commentators on the SEX IS ZERO disc (Mr Skin's Jim McBride and Mike McPadden aka Selwyn Harris), so I'm assuming that film must be filled with sex and nudity?

I already have the Korean edition of The Uninvited so I'll skip that. Might get Sex is Zero however. That commentary should be a hoot. However I'll pass on Tokyo Psycho because well... it sucks.

I haven't seen it but Sex is Zero is more of a comedy. I wouldn't go in expecting a lot of T&A.

Here's a review from Darcy's site:

But, from the linked review, this sounds promising:

"the content of this film is quite strong, in sexual terms"

If the film didn't have a fairly large amount of sex and/or nudity, then the choice of commentators on the DVD would be quite odd. I think I'll be checking it out, for the film and for the commentary track.

While I do enjoy "so bad, they're good" movies, I have to say, that trailer looked really bad, worse than Man With the Screaming Brain kind of bad.

Thanks for the update MK. It's very good to see Panik House pushing forward. I'm very interested in seeing the Gincho Wanderer stuff with Meiko. I noticed Matt referred to the Gincho Wanderer as a two film set. Would anyone happen to know the exact names of the films that make up this set? Google and IMDB came up with nothing. Either way, I'll easily go blind on this set if Panik goes through with it. Very good news!

Just saw this posted on their MySpace page:

Exactly one month ago I promised to announce something huge. Well the wait is over!
Panik House is entering into a production partnership with Synapse Films to release seven more films from the Toei vaults. Five proto-Pinky Violence films and two films of a new genre: Pinky Horror!

With the CasaNegra line in full swing and the Chained Heat films on the way, I needed to call in marines, so to speak, to handle the film transfers and over-all production on this latest crop of Pinky Violence titles, which have never before been released on DVD anywhere. And who better than Don May Jr. and Jerry Chandler from Synapse? I've been looking for an excuse to work with Don on a project for about a decade (going back even before my days at Blue Underground!) and these films have provided me with the perfect opportunity.

Which films you ask?

Let's start with the Pinky Horror titles first:

Edogawa Ranpo Zenshu: Kyofu Kikei Ningen; aka Horror Of The Malformed Men
This is the most notorious film in the history of Japanese cinema. It has been banned since it's release in 1969, and is the film that really cemented Teruo Ishii's reputation as a master in the art of transgressive filmmaking. All rhetoric aside, this is one of the true classics of the era.

Kaidan Hebi-onna; aka Snake Woman's Curse
This was the first of the Pinky Horror films released by Toei. It was helmed by master director Nobuo Nakagawa, who has been called the Japanese Hitchcock, and Akemi Negishi (Sex & Fury, Lady Snowblood) stars.

This brings us to the two series that served as the protypes of the Pinky Violence films and were the direct inspiration for Sex & Fury and just about every female protagonist film to follow. There's the three film Okatsu series, starring Junko Miyazuno, and the two Silver Butterfly films that launched icon of icons Meiko Kaji.
Here's a title list:

Yoen Dokufu Den : Hannya no Ohyaku; aka Sexy Deadly Legend: Female Demon Ohyaku

Yoen Dokufu Den : Hitokiri Okatsu; aka Sexy Deadly Legend: Quickdraw Okatsu

Yoen Dokufu Den : Okatsu Kyojo Tabi; aka Sexy Deadly Legend: Okatsu's Epic Journey

Gincho Wataridori; aka Wandering Ginza Butterfly

Gincho Nagaremono Mesuneko Bakuchi; aka Wandering Ginza She-Cat Gambler

These films are beyond legendary, and have never been released on DVD. Some English titles may change by release date, but make no mistake that these films will be presented uncut in their original form -remastered for optimal viewing and listening enjoyment.

This particular crop of films has allowed me to present two entire series (like we did with the two Inoshika Ocho films starring Reiko Ike), which was key in my decision to license them. I had chosen not to release the entire series of Girl Boss films because I felt that not all entries were as strong as Girl Boss Guerilla, but the two Butterfly films and the three Okatsu films are all really incredible movies, so it's not a case of licensing them just to release a whole series; these films rock! Additionally, these will not be issued as box sets, but instead as individual discs (possibly at the same time) affording the option of buying all at once or one at a time as your budget dictates.
In the meantime, you can whet your Pinky whistle by picking up the recently re-issued Sex & Fury, or pre-ordering the stand alone editions of Terrifying Girls' High School: Lynch Law Classroom and Girl Boss Guerilla. I understand that there are still a few transparent editions of Teruo Ishii's Female Yakuza Tale available, so snatch those up along with the recent releases of Screwed and Blind Beast Vs. Killer Dwarf.

Stay tuned for updates, and have a Pink day!

Thanks for the update TO

I've been hoping Panik pulls through after some very "thorough" releases that I've been happy with such as the Pinky Violence set and Female Yakuza Tale releases!!! Top knotch stuff!

Bringing this Thread back from the dead. It appears these are PanikHouse titles being distributed by Synapse Films. Interesting...

http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/pink...-poisonous-se/

http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/pink...cifications-c/

Yes, it seems all three will be sold separately only… okay, that’s fine. One set would have been nice, but I still think that these pinky violence and the kind of romanporno or pinku movies remain the two most interesting genres I’m aware of out of Japan to not get that much action. Yes, we’ve got a fair load out there if you scrape around, some of it remains hidden pretty well, but more of this more kinetic action and more of this unusual romance and relationship plotting would be more than welcome. Read on for the full story on the ’Poisonous Seductress Trilogy‘ via a Synapse Press Release just being sent out… remember, these three hit on November 13th 2007 in America.

This November, Synapse Films goes Pinky – Pinky Violence, that is – and proudly unveils the LEGENDS OF THE POISONOUS SEDUCTRESS female swordplay series. THE THREE-VOLUME SAGA OF A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG SWORDSWOMAN ON A BLOODY TRAIL OF SAVAGE REVENGE. ONE OF THE MOST VIOLENT REVENGE TRILOGIES EVER MADE! THE BLOOD-SOAKED MODEL FOR THE PINKY VIOLENCE EXPLOSION OF THE 1970s!

Connected only by their theme of a beautiful young swordswoman who’s wronged, then seeks bloody revenge on her oppressors, the LEGENDS OF THE POISONOUS SEDUCTRESS series was produced at Toei Studios in the late 1960s, only a few years before the studio revolutionized the Japanese film industry with their “true-life” yakuza films, girl-gang sagas and modern-day violent thrillers. Set during the samurai days, when Japan was isolated from the rest of the world, the POISONOUS SEDUCTRESS series stars the beautiful Junko Miyazono, first as Ohyaku, then as Okatsu, women who endured humiliation and injustice for as long as they could…until they had to strike back with violence!

Each episode forms its own individual story, and will only be available for sale separately.

EPISODE 1: FEMALE DEMON OHYAKU

A quiet actress named Ohyaku is wrongly sent to prison, then pushed by her tormentors to the point of no return. With a demon tattoo splayed across her back and a sword in her hand, she embarks on a crusade of vengeance against all those who have wronged her, laying waste to man and woman alike in her quest for bloody retribution. A gruesome Pinky Violence classic, the film’s merciless parade of action, beheadings, tattooing and torture proved highly influential on later series of sexy action films from Toei Studios in the 1970s.

EPISODE 2: QUICK-DRAW OKATSU

The daughter of a swordplay instructor takes on a power-hungry magistrate in the second entry of the series, joined this time by Rui, a wild young swordswoman (Reiko Oshida). The two sexy avengers embark on a blood-soaked quest for revenge after Okatsu is raped and her father slaughtered by one of his assistants. From fencing schools to small-town brothels to the imperial city of Edo, Okatsu and Rui slash their way through dozens of evil men in order to settle the score with those who wronged them, in this swordplay classic which features some of the best fight scenes of the series.

EPISODE 3: OKATSU THE FUGITIVE

In the final episode of the series, the legendary beautiful swordswoman Okatsu is on the hunt for Judayu, a corrupt merchant responsible for the death of her parents. Betrayed by her fiancé, she finds herself aided in her quest by a handsome stranger (longtime yakuza movie star Tatsuo Umemiya) – who happens to be as handy with a sword as she is! What is the reason for his kindness, and will Okatsu be able to prevail against her nemesis, now a powerful businessman with scores of allies in high places? Whatever the end may be, the restless spirits of her murdered parents drive Okatsu along her crimson-colored road of vengeance.

Episode 1 directed by Yoshihiro Ishikawa (GHOST CAT OF OTAMA POND).
Episodes 2 & 3 directed by legendary filmmaker Nobuo Nakagawa (SNAKE WOMAN’S CURSE, JIGOKU).

The series features an all-star cast of famous faces from the best of Japanese genre cinema, including lead actress Junko Miyazono (ELEVEN SAMURAI, SAMURAI WOLF 2), two-time series co-star Tomisaburo Wakayama (LONE WOLF & CUB, BLACK RAIN), Tatsuo Umemiya (GRAVEYARD OF HONOR,
WANDERING GINZA BUTTERFLY), Kunio Murai (SNAKE WOMAN’S CURSE), Ko Nishimura (SNAKE WOMAN’S CURSE, HANZO THE RAZOR), Reiko Oshida (DELINQUENT GIRL BOSS), Yukie Kagawa (HORRORS OF MALFORMED MEN, FEMALE CONVICT SCORPION – JAILHOUSE 41), and Yoichi Numata (JIGOKU).

Synapse Films’ LEGENDS OF THE POISONOUS SEDUCTRESS DVD Series Include the Following Special Features:

• New, fully restored anamorphic widescreen transfers mastered in high-definition from Toei’s original vault elements
• Japanese language audio with newly-translated, removable English subtitles
• Audio commentary on FEMALE DEMON OHYAKU and QUICK-DRAW OKATSU by Japanese film expert Chris D.
• Original Japanese theatrical trailers
• Poster galleries
• Liner notes and essays on the female swordplay genre
• Reversible covers with original Japanese poster artwork
• MORE!

Look for Synapse Films’ DVD premiere Special Editions of FEMALE DEMON OHYAKU, QUICK-DRAW OKATSU, and OKATSU THE FUGITIVE in stores on November 13, 2007 at a retail price of $24.95 each. Each title is only available separately.
