Petitions thread
Alright, folks. If there are any DVD petitions you want to see signed, just post a list of them in this thread. They can be for films or TV shows that haven't been released on DVD that you want to see released, or for films that you want to see released in a Special Edition DVD release.
It doesn't matter what you like. There's no limitations here. Just post petitions for your favorite films or TV shows. This is for the benefit of folks who like this kind of stuff, and might want to sign some of these petitions. I'll start.... TV Petitions: Duckman on DVD Petition Mighty Mouse DVD Petition Twin Peaks Season 2 on DVD Movies that haven't been released on DVD yet: The Jazz Singer (original Al Jolson classic) DVD Petition Coonskin DVD Petition Hey Good Lookin' DVD Petition Movies that I want to see in a Special Edition: The Lord of the Rings Special Edition DVD Petition Okay, now you can post whatever petitions you want. They can be ones you've started, or ones that you've found online and want to see become successful. Oh, and if you see a petition that you'd like to sign, go right ahead. Enjoy! |
Out of curiosity, are these petitions succesful? I wonder if the studios or rights holder are aware of them.

Consumer movements in the past have been successful, some spearheaded by online petitions.
Some examples that come to mind are: The inclusion of a Japanese audio track on the Princess Mononoke R1 DVD, a WS release of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the re-framing of the Back to the Future DVDs, and the upcoming release of 40 Year Old Virgin R-Rated WS on DVD. Of course, it's always hard to say if it was the online petition that did it, or the other actions that were taken on by fans and the same time, such as letter campaigns and phone calls, or even emails. Cetainly I doubt that studios go actively looking for these petitions, so the only way they'd know about them is if someone points it out to them somehow. |
what would be on a LOTR SE....I mean the thing has four commentaries, and two bonus disk per movie...and thats not counting if you already own the theatrical cuts

As for the other things, unless there's specific official reference that the online petition was what cause, it's impossible to say that the petition had any effect. Usually, online petitions run parallel to email, phone, and letter campaigns. I think, for the most part, studios still consider these traditional methods more impactful. In ranking of influence are: 1) Snail-mail letters 2) Phone calls 3) Emails 4) Online petitions I'm nto sayin that online petitions aren't influential at all. It's honestly hard to separate their effect from the usually parallel movments in other forms of influence. At the least, they certainly can't hurt. |
OP, great idea. I signed the Twin Peaks petition. I've been hanging on the cliff for too long now!

I was the originator of the Willy Wonka widescreen petition and can confirm that the updated release was a direct result of the petition. Of course, I did print out several hundred pages of names and send them to WB. Emails from folks at WB later confirmed that the release was because of the petition.
Although the petition received attention online and in some print media, I think that printing it out and mailing it was the key (suggestion to those running current petitions). |
