40 Year Old Virgin R-Rated in OAR Tuesday
 

Apparently Universal isn't deaf and heard some of the moaning. I hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere, but according to their website and others, the theatrical cut is coming out in widescreen on Tuesday. I'll stick with my unrated cut, but at least they are putting it out.

Awesome. The unrated version slowed the film down way, waaaay too much. For once, Universal does something right.

I will probably pick this one up, as the Longer-cut screwed the flow of the movie... The gags just went on way too long. Props to Universal for doing this...

I wonder what that would cut the running time down to? I've never seen the theatrical version but the unrated seemed very long. VERY LONG

That sucks, I would have waited for this. Was there an announcement anywhere?

Falling for what? The Unrated edition was in OAR. It's not a gimmick to prefer this version. Of course now that they are releasing the theatrical version in OAR many will prefer it, but I don't see how anyone is being tricked.

The unrated version was a bit slower, but I liked the extended interaction between Romany Malco and Kevin What's-His-name as the slick, asshole, gang-banger wannabe. I thought that was a good touch.

Both versions should have been on the same disk.

Good news. I had only seen the unrated and was less than impressed. Maybe the R-rated will change my mind.

Is it possible that Universal will offer some refund for the people that bought the unrated version and want the R-Rated widescreen version??

The 'trick' is they were pushing those who prefer O.A.R. to only one version of the film(unrated). Thus those who prefer the theatrical version were shit out of luck.

This is why all versions of a film should be in O.A.R no matter what. And if they began issuing both versions on the same release. Either via seamless branching or one version per disc in a 2 disc set. This would be a better solution which could also save shelf space in stores.

No, the "trick" is putting deleted scenes back in a movie that were deleted for a reason and marketing them as "EXXXTREME UNRATED" to pre-teenage boys like they're getting some hardcore uncensored footage to move extra units. It's become an STD to the DVD market and Universal is at the forefront of the most superfluous "unrated" DVDs.

That 'trick' also sucks and I never agreed with it. This is the other reason why all versions of a film must be made available in O.A.R.

Since the 'deleted for a reason' extended versions are terrible and completely destroy what made the film entertaining in the first place. And these make up the majority of 'unrated' versions today.

I'll be picking this up. I'll just get a double-disc case and throw both the theatrical cut and unrated discs in there.

To this film's credit, the unrated version actually does feature more nudity, and while it probably still would've gotten an R rating, at least it is technically more extreme. Also, the unrated DVD has some more extreme extras, specifically Andy's Fantasies and Seth's date with Stormy, both of which feature Stormy naked, one full frontal.

On added bonus of the unrated DVD is that you get to view the deleted scenes that are re-intergrated into the film in full anamorphic glory, as opposed to the letterboxed presentation the remaining deleted scenes and extras get.

There really isn't any reason for them not to have had both versions on the same disc though. They should've gone the Wedding Crashers route and included both cuts on the Unrated DVDs, while still having the R rated DVD for the remarkably prudish viewers.

I notice that the R-rated DVD actually has a special feature not on the Unrated DVD, it's listed as "1970s Sex Ed Film." Has anyone seen this special feature?
