"Alfred Hitchcock's Masterpiece Collection"...

I am really wanting to get into his movies and want the SE's of "Rear Window" and "Psycho" especially, that this one contains.

So where is the best price online or B&M's on East Coast, and why hasn't the retail price come down at all since it has been out a bit, no?

Its only been out 4 months. Price drops usually take 6-9 months on major titles. Box sets take longer usually, if they drop at all. Even at list price this is a good deal for all of those movies.

You can do what I did and wait for the DDD 20% off sale where I paid $69.12 for the set this past Nov. If their reg. price drops by the time the next sale hits (probably in June 06) then you can get an even better deal. Good luck.

Best price I've seen was at Costco for $73.99 (if they have any left!).

OldBoy 01-02-06 03:05 PM

so this set is definitely worth it then?

dhmac 01-03-06 04:35 PM

Any news on if the DVDs in this set will be released individually?

(I'd like to get the anamorphic versions of Psycho and Vertigo, but don't want to double-dip on any of the other titles.)

OldBoy 01-03-06 06:52 PM

wasn't this in the bargains forum with an extended title? why was it moved...

Hitchcock Individual releases from Universal 02.07.06

just a matter of time

Al Padrino 01-03-06 10:45 PM

I'd still go with the set. If you like Hitchcock, it just makes more sense on all grounds to go that way.

Bought this set yesterday. But the "Sabotage" disc keeps freezing up on me. Anyone else experience this problem? Does Universal replace defective discs?

You can give it a shot. Start by sending a detailed message here

I have problems with a really old American Pie disc and they responded with instructions on how to return it for exchange

ENDContra 05-10-06 09:09 AM

But knowing how all of these studios work, they will want you to send back the ENTIRE package, so maybe youll get a corrected disc for the defective one, but youll have to rewatch the entire set to make sure you dont have another defective disc.

I think the cheapest you can get it is through CH.com. You have to pay $10 IIRC to join, but you get two dvds with that (from a selection of about maybe 100 dvds). Then the boxset is $72 shipped. It'll be a while before you get the set though if you go that route.

GOTH 05-10-06 11:27 PM

Hmm. . . .im tempted to just buy a new set and return my defective one.

I feel kind of strange posting in a topic this old, but hey, why not? :)

I was strongly considering buying this set, but was hoping someone could help me out with a quick question...

I really love the covers for the individual releases and the ability to watch a movie without having to open up large, complicated packaging, and was wondering how this set was built. Looking at the back, it looks like it's some sort of a binder with pages for each movie rather than a box housing each individual keepcase. Is this the "case," or am I misinterpreting things and are the movies in individual cases within the box?

(Cover examples, if that helps at all)

You got it right. Inside the (rather nice) box are flimsy digipacks each holding four discs.

ZackR 08-09-06 10:41 AM

There are 4 movies per case. They are cardboard hard covers. I would have preferred individual cases, bur you could always print your own...

this is probably the thread you want...it has details and pics

Universal Hitchcock Titles to get a rerelease in October? (10/04/05)

bboisvert 08-09-06 10:48 AM

Yeah, I ultimately went with the box because it takes up less space. But it is designed VERY poorly. And there's a ton of wasted space within.

bunnydojo 08-09-06 11:59 AM

Ah, sorry about that, I didn't see it mentioned in my quick look around, but see it now. It looks like I'll go with a few individual titles instead.

I appreciate the help, guys. :)

ShagMan 08-09-06 12:09 PM

beware the set, there's a good chance you'll get a bad DVD18, I definitely did, and didn't have any luck emailing Universal other than send it back to the retailer you bought it from.

Cameron 08-09-06 12:17 PM

i thought they all had there own disc...no dvd 18s

Richard Malloy 08-09-06 12:29 PM

Unless I don't know what a DVD-18 is (a double-sided, dual-layer disc is my understanding), there are no DVD-18s in the Masterpiece Collection.

ShagMan 08-09-06 01:04 PM

My bad, I meant regular ol' DVD9's!
