That good 'ol Criterion smell...

I know it's late, but I swear that when you open a new Criterion DVD, there is a distinctive smell that comes along with only a Criterion DVD. It kind of reminds me of a library smell. I just opened 'The Bad Sleep Well' and damned if I didn't recognize that same smell again.

Has anyone else noticed this? If so, why does it smell different?

(This in no way resembles the 'Book of the Dead' smell, so go ahead and sniff away to see what I am talking about.)

I know what you mean. I think the smell is from the booklet. BTW, did you get a postcard in 'The Bad Sleep Well'? And if so, which one?

I remember my friends brother would smell DVDs and Video Games and when he told I thought it was the dumbest thing ever. Then curiosity got the best of me and I tried it. There is a smell true, but I still think it's pretty dumb. I understand it, but still dumb.

If you still have the original release of Saving Private Ryan unsealed, try to smell the case. Seriously, it smells good.

Will Criterion now label their dvd's with a scratch and sniff sticker?

Actually, the last Criterion dvd I bought new at a store was "My Own Private Idaho" and when I opened it and looked at the booklet, it had a newly minted odor to it, that was interesting to smell. So I know what you mean, I guess.

Criterions are nice dvds. So they should smell nice to. haha.

No you haven't...

Magic: The Gathering cards right out of the package have a very distinctive smell also. I love to just inhale their presence as I open them up. I got some for Christmas and got some pretty strange looks from my family members whilst snorting my cards.

Now you've seen it all

It's the smell of money burning a hole in your pocket and Criterion cashing in.

Well, I know my Pink Floyd LP's use to have their own rank reek. Wait...that was after the jackets were used as pot cleaning trays, my bad.

You smell that? Do you smell that? Criterion, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of Criterion in the morning. The smell, you know that DVD smell. Smelled like... victory.

I know my kids "Strawberry Shortcake" dvds smell pretty good. I thought i was the only one who thought that about Criterion dvds. At least i'm not the only odd one out there.
