After Christmas, best time for Used DVD shops!

Just got back home from visiting one of my usual stops and man did I get a great haul.

Sin City - Uncut $15
Batman Vol 4 - $18
Gargoyles S2 - $17

All brand new mint condition. They had tons of stuff like Lost, Thundercats, Battlestar Galactica, Hercules, even Darkwater, Serenity and the Great Raid.

Hit up your pawn shops and such, theres gold in them der hills!

I may have to stop by CD Warehouse after work. Hopefully people dropped off some good stuff they didn't want for Christmas.

Thanks.

Pawnshops can be a bitch though. All of em around here are bitches that think their shit is new and sell their beat up DVDs and crap for beyond what they are new!! I saw a CRUSHED Simpsons S4 for $40! I usually try to get them to lower their price and actually deal, but it just ends up as an argument and I wont give em my money.

About 50% of my collection is comprised of discs from pawn shops and used movie/game stores. I was out last night as a matter of fact, and got the following;

Transformers: The Movie - $11 (Sold for $40 this morning)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Universal) - $9.99
GI Joe: The Movie - FREE
Goldeneye SE - $2
Beyond Jurassic Park (Trilogy Bonus Disc) - $5
Earthquake x 2 - $2

Also found "KISS Meet the Phantom of the Park" brand new for $20. It was recalled and stopped pressing about a month after release. I literally live in these stores, and reselling HTF/OOP titles is how I've funded my library, and been able to afford some of my bigger titles.

Biggest find to date is the Full Moon/Koch Puppetmaster Boxed Set. Bought it for $35, sold it for $250.

Pawn shops are the way to go when they actually put a fair pirce on them. I probably have around 200-300 in my collection from pawn shops.

..which is before eBay comes in and takes their share for Fixed Price Listing fees and Final Value Fees, not to mention PayPal's slice, and I shipped it for free to CANADA. No bother, still made more than what I paid for it, and I was able to get both "This Island Earth" and "MST3K: The Movie" with the earnings, which are my holy grails.

Those are some nice finds! I too get most of my shit from used stores. Id say about 80% is from a used shop and maybe 19.99% of everything else was bought on sale. Id dont think Ive ever bought a DVD that wasnt at a discount.

I had no idea the Transformers was going for that much, I just saw it at a pawn a few days ago for $4.

What's so great about this release? I see that it goes for $20-30 on eBay, but I'm sure that the Criterion (which you could pick up new for that) is much, much better.

I see these around from time to time on my used runs, but have never thought about picking one up.

I believe that it may be OOP.

I know it's OOP, but is there anything special (Features or anything) that make it more desireable than the Criterion version? Or are the people that are buying it on eBay fanatical and must have both versions?

I found the WDT Disney Rarities today for $14, very nice shape.

I've been trying to tell you folks about these places for years, I've gotten deal upon deal on used discs.

Just a cheaper alternative, roughly 1/2 the cost of Criterion, for casual fans. That's about it.

I just found about $400.00+ worth of discs for about $75.00 or so. Don't have the cash to buy them though. Working on it though.

I get most of my dvds used, I find video stores have the best deals. HMV sometimes has great 3/30 or 2/30 deals too.

I hit three of my local Pawn Shops and found nothing exciting. I'll have to hit my local Used DVD store once I go back to work next week.

You're over half way to the 75 you need to make the 400 dollar steal.

The rest are Bond's as well. I just quickly put that up (Thunderball) to get me started. I believe I can get more for the other Thunderball. Was a really nice find. I may have been off on the $400.00 number... but it will hopefully be between 300 & 400.

Also found 2 Criterions that are perfect for $5 each.

My pawn shops suck...the only used DVD store around here that's worthwhile is Gamestop, and most of the time, they can't find the damn discs.

This could be our little unofficial pawn shop score thread, lol. I challenged myself today. I had 90 minutes to hit up as many local shops AND get to work. Produced the following;

OOP Sleeping Beauty (GameStop) - $14
OOP Sleeping Beauty (Pawn America) - $9
OOP Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - $5
OOP Meatballs (Pawn America) - $6
Ghost World - $3
The Birdcage - $1.50
Detroit 9000 - $3

..the last 4 were for me. Not bad for a jaunt before work.

Went today again cause it was on the way to run some errands and found Blade 3 for $5 mint. I was gonna get The Girl Next Door for the same, but it was scratched to shit

I guess I should say, I found Fear and Loathing Criterion Mint for $10 a year or 2 back. Great find
