seaQuest finally coming to DVD, 12/26/05

From TVshowsonDVD.com:

SeaQuest DSV - You voted, Universal listened - Season 1 news
Posted by Gord Lacey, 10/05/2005

We're often asked whether voting on the site actually helps get the shows out on DVD, and thanks to an ad Universal is running in trade magazines for SeaQuest DSV and Battlestar Galactica, we have an answer:

This is the first time the site's voting system has been mentioned so prominently by a studio (thanks Universal!) in the announcement of a title.

The ad contains some other exciting news; mention of "Exclusive Never-Before-Seen Footage" that will be in the set. We don't know whether the footage will be integrated into the episodes, or possibly available in a "Special Features" section, but the news should excite fans.

You'll notice in the graphic below (the SeaQuest portion of the ad) a street date of December 26, which is a Monday. We're guessing that Universal selected the day after Christmas to capitalize on all the foot traffic from people looking for post-holiday deals. A non-Tuesday release is rare in the DVD world for retail releases (direct sales is a different story), but not out of the question. Uusually if it's not on Tuesday, then it's on Friday...but never before to our recollection has a TV-DVD been released at retail on a weekday other than a Tuesday!

Universal hasn't officially announced the title yet, and it's not available to pre-order, but we'll monitor their press site and update you with any information we find. You may remember that posted news a bit over a month ago that this title would be coming out on November 22nd, and then the same story was updated later to say it would not be out in 2005 after all. It now appears Universal got it in there just under the wire!

Hooray! I'm all over this release (and hopefully it will sell well enough so that all the seasons are released)

Looking forward to this. Each season had something to offer, but I'm hopinh it sells well enough to get to the third season. For some reason, I really got hooked once Michael Ironside took over as the captain.

Dammit, Dammit, Dammit, Dammit, Dammit!!

More money flying out of my pocket - another, "Can't pass it up," release!

Seriously, though, I've been waiting for this one for a while. I loved this show when it was first on, and I watched it a bit when it was on the Sci Fi Channel, but I haven't seen it since. I'm really looking forward to it.

Not to take this too far off-topic, but just a thought: Hard-core Johnathan Brandis fans might think about getting The Flash...he had a guest shot in an episode of it. Episode 6, "Child's Play". I don't know how well-known that is.

I loved this show. I also need season 2. I seem to recall they changed the name when they went to the other planet and came back in the future in season 3. Was there a season 4?

Heads up - there's a $5 coupon for this in Battlestar Galactica 2.0. Well, there was in mine.

I do remember SeaQuest. I remember watching it, and liking it. There was quite a bit of buzz about this show when it first came on, IIRC.

Its name changed to SeaQuest 2032, and it was given a sort of over-arching storyline of global conflict and peacekeeping role, which gave the show a lot more direction than the meandering plots of Season 2 (and to a lesser extent, Season 1). Of course, just as it was getting good, it was canceled, half-way through Season 3.

Yeah - I kinda liked the show - did not watch it through to the end - I may have stopped during or right after the first season. Pretty good, may have to take a look at it again since I do not remember much except for a few scenes and actors/actress but not really any episodes. Certainly do not remember the 2032 title.

I really want this release and was so excited over it. Only when I went to Target to pick it up....they didn't have any! Apparently they haven't got their shippment in. Humph. I'll get it as soon as it gets in though.

Was hoping this would arrive today or even tomorrow, but it shipped from Amazon only today, so it will be a few days before I get it as well.

that's funny, considering they pushed up the release date so all the people shopping today would have grabbed it, but instead most stores probably won't get it (or put it out) until tomorrow with the rest of the new stuff for this week..

Amazon is reporting that this set has 4 disks. Can someone who gets this report if the disks are double sided?

they are double sided..from http://tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=4282

Universal's official announcement also lets us know that this is a 4 DVD set in slim "thinpak" cases in an outer slipcover, and that those discs are double-sided (we know that disappoints a number of you, who have more trouble than other consumers might with double-sided DVDs in your players).

Has anyone seen this in stores? I went to Target, Kmart, Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, among some other stores yesterday with my family salehopping, and didn't see one copy...
