Raise the Red Lantern -------------> February 14, 2006
I just got this email from Amazon announcing the official U.S. release of Raise the Red Lantern (Happy Valentine´s Day!):
Greetings from Amazon.com. You previously signed up to be notified when "Raise the Red Lantern" (DVD) became available, and we're happy to inform you that it is now available for pre-order. If you would like to order this item now, just follow the link below: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BBOU5O |
Good movie. Hopefully there'll be some special features.

Thank God this is coming to R1 DVD - I've waited forever for this! Anything is going to be better than what's out there now....
|
Wonderful news! Thanks for posting!
|
One of the last 'old' films still on my wish list. Great that it's coming on dvd finaly. Thanks for the good news.

good news, but this is one film that needs a good transfer.
If it is a good transfer, I hope a proper release of Ju Dou isnt too far off. |
Apparently "Ju Dou" is being released by the same company on the same day.
|
Good news, as I love the film, but I have to admit that I'm a bit suspicious in regards to the distributor. I hope it doesn't get screwed up in some way.
|
DVDAsian appears to have the cover art.

I'll await the reviews before purchasing this title. Considering I purchased a cheap import from China that is pretty awful, I would welcome a new release as long as it is remastered.

P.S. I also want to see the powerful Story of Qiu Jo finally came out on U.S. DVD, but, jeez, do these right! |
The VHS tape I had was from Orion Classics, thus MGM and now Sony. Sony put out Qiu Ju in full screen (which is actually cropped, not open matte because I have the HK dvd that's really widescreen and I did the comparison to my VHS tape). This movie would require a lot of attention because of all the use of color. Hopefully they get it right. Gong Li is amazing.

note: the original link takes you to a vhs....and amazon does not have this dvd listed...
|
Here are direct links to the DVDs on the distributor's website:
Ju Dou http://www.razordigitalent.com/Distributor/DV_judou.htm Raise the Red Lantern http://www.razordigitalent.com/Distr...redlantern.htm For a little over $9 each, I preordered them in a two-pack from DDD (though they are also available from Digital Eyes, DVD Planet & DVD Empire): http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/redir...fier=RZD003352 |
Well this is one of my most anticipated releases of the year, but I, like others, will wait to see some reviews first. Going to be pretty disappointed if its a shitty version...

This is great news; however, like others I'll await the reviews before purchasing. But, then again, if I'm in a store that day and have it in my hands, I might not be able to put it down. :)
|
Wow. I was one of those people who thought this movie had already been released.

Region: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only. Read more about DVD formats.) Studio: Razor Digital Entertainment DVD Release Date: January 17, 2006 Amazon also shows this: Availability: Usually ships within 1 to 3 months. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. The cover is pretty ghetto; they really should have used the film's poster. It's all about distant shots in that movie! ... But maybe that's if this comes out by this company, which might be a blessing in disguise, considering it's track record on porting Asian DVDs. Still, this must be released in the U.S. already! |
(bump) So has anyone received a copy and can comment on the transfer?
