"we stand at 143 copies purchased vs 156 not purchased. doesnt anyone else find that impressive"

I'd say that was REALLY impressive if it wasn't selected from such a skewed demographic, as you mentioned, but it is still seems impressive. Looking at the Amazon's sales rank: #1 for Serenity and #3 for Firefly(yea, it moved up) - that's pretty amazing. I'd like to see how they are ranked in 2 to 3 weeks.

This poll means absolutely nothing from a scientific perspective, considering the audience here isn't a representative of the average demographic. I bought one, though. Great movie.

I bought 12. Then I returned them all...

Ok, ok. I bought 0. Honestly, I thought it looked interesting when the trailer came out, but then I heard it was a part of the 'Firefly' series. That kept me out of the theater considering I never saw the complete series. I only saw bits and pieces here and there, and didn't really care for it.

If it's any consolation to you fans, I know a few people who don't post here that either own it already or will be getting it for the holidays. No matter what happens regarding the future of the series, be happy you got a movie out of the deal. 'Dead Like Me' fans don't have it as good as you do...sniff.

It's not even representative of your average DVDtalker. Maybe people who bought copies felt the need to post that they did, but the vast majority of registered users who saw this topic dismissed it as not worth even replying to.

That's to bad. I picked it up on a blind buy and it was worth every penny. In fact, I went out and bought the entire series of "Firefly" because of this movie. Kinda crazy, but my first impressions were a mix of Ice Pirates, Star Trek and an old western movie. VERY well done and VERY good story. Wish we could have seen these characters evolve. Could have been real interesting. Oh, to answer the original question, I bought 1 copy .

Just out of curiosity, I checked Amazon to see how well Serenity (widescreen) was selling. Right now (12/12/05 @0641) it is #1. And guess what, Firefly is #3! Even the FF version is #129. I am sure this somewhat echos other sites and B&M's. I hope this sends a message to FOX (ala Family Guy) to give it a second look. Interesting.

My vote can be changed from a 0 to a 1. I got Firefly for Christmas and we picked up Serenity yesterday. I just hope it's as good as I've heard.

Indeed. In a country full of 296,000,000 people... 30 scifi fans buying multiple copies is certainly a mandate.

Hmm.. This thread is a little sad, and I'm a big fan and promoter of the show and film. (I admit to only reading the first three or so pages of this) Is a thread asking how many of the same movie you bought really necessary?

On the other hand, avoiding the film because of fans (I'm not a Whedon fan, but a Firefly fan) is a little silly. I hope anyone doing this has never seen, or doesn't like, Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, etc.

As it turned out, none of them had ever heard of the series (no surprise, it is very obscure), most of them very much liked it once they gave it a chance. Some expressed disappointment that there are only 14 episodes and wonder what Fox was thinking when they canceled the show. This is a typical experience of many who took a chance on Firefly, including me. I don't usually buy DVDs for friends or family unless I know their tastes very well or unless they request something specific.

Naysayers notwithstanding, I think that the current sales totals at Amazon speak for themselves: Serenity: #1, Firefly: #4. Not bad for a failed TV series that was released on DVD TWO YEARS ago, and a movie that flopped at the box office.
Count me in here. I have never watched an episode of Buffy or Angel in my life, and I never really made the connection that Firefly was created by the same guy. I heard lots of buzz about the series and when the set came in under $25 in the last DDD sale I took a shot with it. The pilot was pretty good, and the second episode was ok, but I decided to keep going and the show really grew on me. I really do think this show is one of the unsung gems of the past five years. I ordered the movie from CH as a fulfillment selection.

I think that a lot of the hate here is directed towards the Joss fans that will defend his every move. I'm not one of those guys, but I wil say this: I will make sure not to miss any new ressurection of this show in any form (TV, Movie or DTHV) and I will also give any future Joss Whedon projects a chance to wow me like this series did.

It's possible, but it would have to be a store promotion, since the two titles come from different studios. I suspect you'll do better looking for the best prices individually.

Man, that tin looks fantastic! Kinda looks like the one Akira came in long ago. Count me in if this comes R1. Plus the extras look great. According to their website, it is an ezydvd exclusive. Hmmmm. Also, there is a regular, non tin 2-disc available the same day. The price difference is not that much at all.

Well, I picked up Firefly on a blind buy at the Wal*Mart $19.99 sale. If I like it I'll probably pick up at a used place down the road.

Any idea how these extended scenes are different from the US release?
