Bugsy Malone 4/11/2006

Paramount Home Entertainment has sent over artwork for a new edition of Bugsy Malone which stars Jodie Foster and Scott Baio.
I've only seen this once in a very splice-y print (20+ years ago), but it was very fun. It's certainly the best gangster/musical with an all-child cast ever made.

Is that quote from Ebert the best one they could find to help pitch this DVD? I'm not sure calling any movie "like nothing else" is necessarily going to convince somebody to buy.

Then again, it does have Scott Baio....

Too late, already got the import a couple years ago.

Same here - great R2 release with commentary by Alan Parker, trailers, photo gallery, nice 12-page booklet.

Geeezzz! Paramount is really nasty, according to the Lasersedge.com Paramount has dropped Bugsy Malone and Julius Ceaser from their release schedule. It says TBA!

I wish this studio would just hold to most of their catalog titles for release.

Yeah I got the first (no features) R2 release a long time ago also. I loved this movie as a kid but watching it as an adult the magic just wasn't really there any more. Except for the ending which I still loved, it's just pure stupid fun and I still love that song they sing along to as well.

The rest of the movie could be tough going though. I watched it with a friend who hated it.

I know! I was just about to RUN to Best Buy to pick this up! (It was my first movie in the theater, give me a break)

Anyone have any idea as to why Paramount pulled this off their schedule?

Haven't a clue, my hunch is that when Inside Man comes on dvd they will probably reschedule this, since it stars Jodie Foster.

I sure wish Netflix would let renters know they are getting an import dvd with none of the feature descriptions listed on their site such as the audio commentary. I expected to received the domestic dvd from them but sent it back when I saw it was an import. Nice "bait and switch".

So this never happened. :(

I want this movie! I love the cheezy Paul Williams music!

I still have the sealed soundtrack album to this and would love to get it on DVD. I'll have to check Netflix to see if it's available.

i always found something about this movie incredibly creepy, even as a child.

What happens is that some not-nice people who own a particular version will rent the special edition and send back the old one. With the hundreds of thousands of DVDs in traffic, Netflix won't notice if a DVD is not the edition it claims to be.
Could Netflix be more vigilant? Sure, I suppose. But keeping tabs on every single last disc's appearance, let alone getting into all the differences between "special", "double secret probation", "rockin' rydell editions" would get time-and-resources consuming and therefore very expensive for users.

Happened to me a couple times with Blockbuster online - rented the CC 81/2 and got the Image version, and got the Universal edition of Fear & Loathing. Best thing to do is let them know and send it back.

So still no word on this title's release? :(
