How many DVD releases out there come with books similiar to the recent Sin City release?

I can think of a few off the top of my head.

Ugetsu from Criterion comes with a booklet containing the short stories that influenced the movie. Great movie!

What book came with Riddick?

I'm sure that there are many Criterions that have books.

Dawn of the Dead UE came with a comic book.

When I bought the DVD when it first came out it had the Paperback version of The Chronicles of Riddick attached to the case as a set.

Criterions My Own Private Idaho has a book also.

This is probably not what you meant by "books" as most of the thread seems to address comic books, but several literary adaptations have been packaged with the original book. I've seen Sense and Sensibility with the book, Little Women, and others I don't remember off the top of my head. Great gifts for afficianados of a particular author, I'd say.

The Escape from New York SE came with a small version of the first issue of the comic.

I bought Seabiscuit at Walmart when it first came out and I got the novel dont even know where it is now.

The Good The Bad And The Ugly: SE has one.

No it doesn't. It has an insert like most other DVD's, but not a book. It also has those little poster card things.

Cinderella Man: Collector's Edition and King Kong Production Diaries both had pretty nice scrap books (plus some nice pictures/lithographs).

Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Official Log 1 is DVD plus book release.

The book is an elaborate translation of the same book in Japanese into English, that gives you rich insight into the world of GITS:SAC, at least first 1/3 of the entire series. The DVD is a collection of some interviews in original Japanese plus English subtitle. Of course, the main focus of the release is the book. Nevertheness, it's still considered a DVD with book release :p

Underworld: Unrated, extended cut has a small comic book in it.

Blade III came with a mini comic book also.

Big Fish was re-released with a "Fairy Tale for a Grown Up" book
Also, Cinderella and Aladdin gift sets came with exclusive books.

To throw in a shameless laserdisc reminiscence here, the Star Wars Definitive Collection and Nightmare Before Christmas LD box sets both came with lovely hardcover books.

I, Robot (got it at Costco and had a copy of the book with it)

The book that came with I, Robot at Costco is not the original Isaac Asimov novella; it's an unproduced screenplay adaptation of the story by Harlan Ellison.

I don't think we should count retailer exclusive packages that simply shrinkwrap a studio DVD with a related (if even) book. Anyone can do that. "Look Ma! This Harry Potter DVD comes with a copy of the Chronicles of Narnia book!" We should stick to official DVD packages that are designed to hold a book with the disc.

There is no book in Videodrome, just a fat booklet. Mr. Arkadin will include a novel.
